Early reviews for the Apple TV+ drama series The Morning Show weren’t great. Our own reviews, while noting some issues, didn’t agree with the mostly negative outlooks. And now the show is raking in the awards.

Earlier today, for instance, The Morning Show earned several wards nominations from the 2020 Golden Globes. And now the same can be said for the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards). The group announced its nominations today as well, and the Apple TV+ series has earned several nods.

For the “Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series” award, we’ve got Steve Carell as Mitch Kessler in the series, and Billy Crudup as Corey Ellison. And next, we’ve got Jennifer Aniston as Alex Levy for the “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series” award.

The SAG Awards are prestigious in their own right, and it will be interesting to see how Apple TV+’s drama fares compared to the likes of Sterling K. Brown as Randall Pearson in NBC’s This Is Us or David Harbour as Jim Hopper in Netflix’s Stranger Things. Not to mention Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix’s The Crown or Elisabeth Moss as Offred/June in Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale.

I just want to say right here and now that Crudup should absolutely win this award this year. While I had my issues with The Morning Show in general, the performances therein are all top tier and worth watching. Crudup’s especially. There was a point there where I felt like he was the only reason to really watch the show on a regular basis, even if Aniston and Reese Witherspoon and others were also putting in amazing work, too.

But we’ll have to wait and see how it all shakes out. If you’ve been watching The Morning Show, do you think it will win any of these awards it has been nominated for?
