Google today released a standalone Fit app for iPhone.
Google Fit for Android was revamped last August with Material Design theme and activity goals created in partnership with the American Heart Association (AHA) and World Health Organization (WHO). Crucially, the iOS version of the software syncs data with Apple’s Health platform and sports two key metrics: Move Minutes and Heart Points.
Any physical activity, from a simple walk to other activities, earns you Move points similar to Apple’s Activity app. Each Move minute yields at least 30 steps, according to Google. The idea is the same: the more you move, the more Move Minutes you earn.
Heart Points are earned based on the intensity of your movement. Like with Move Points, the more intensely you move, the more Heart Points you earn (some of Fit’s features were previously available through Google’s poorly rated Wear OS app).

The more Heart Points you earn, the closer you are to reaching AHA and WHO’s recommended amount of weekly physical activity to reap the health benefits.
The key feature for me is Apple Health sync.
These days, I rarely use any fitness apps that don’t export data to the Health app. Instead of having crucial metrics siloed in apps, all Health-compatible apps get to share fitness data, with your permission, allowing for some great integrations. For example, you could connect apps like Sleep Cycle, Headspace and Nike Run Club to Health so the Fit app is able to show the Heart Points and Move Minutes you earn through other activities captured in third-party apps.

The app’s Journal section provides a chronological view of your sleep, walking and workouts, which helps you “get better sleep, be more mindful and get more active,” Google wrote.
Whether you go biking or pick up your pace while walking to your next meeting to earn more Heart Points, you can check your journal to track progress on these two activity goals and see how small changes can make a big impact to your health.
