DarkChrome brings dark mode support to the Chrome app for iOS

Dark mode-centric features are on the rise across the board, from typical apps that you can install from the App Store, to the very add-ons that you download from Cydia to enhance the native iOS experience.

That said, those who use Chrome on their iPhones or iPads instead of Safari might take a liking to a new free jailbreak tweak called DarkChrome by iOS developer Nathan Whitaker, as it can provide the dark mode experience you’re looking for in the official Chrome app for iOS.

As shown in the screenshot examples above, DarkChrome is a polished tweak with gorgeous aesthetics. The dark mode theme presents itself in every interface you’ll find in the Chrome app, from the search engine interface, to the voice search, to the bookmarks and settings.

After you’ve installed DarkChrome, you’ll find a preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure it to your needs:

Here, you can:

  • Choose the type of color scheme you’d like to use:
    • Dark
    • Flat dark
    • True black
  • Invert the colors of the Omnibox search button when searching in incognito mode

We particularly like that you can change the dark mode color scheme on the fly, and the addition of the true black dark mode will be a sight for sore eyes if you’re using an OLED-equipped handset such as the iPhone X, XS, or XS Max.

If you use the Chrome app regularly on your jailbroken iPhone or iPad and you’re ready to experience a proper dark mode in the interface, then you can download DarkChrome for free from Cydia’s BigBoss repository. The tweak supports all jailbroken iOS 11 and 12 devices that have the Chrome app installed.
