2018 MacBook Pro reviews

Apple has now confirmed that the most recent macOS High Sierra update addresses several issues with the 2018 MacBook Pro, which launched in July. Namely, the macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 Supplemental Update 2 resolves crackling audio and kernel panics on the machines, according to MacRumors.

The 1.3GB update, quietly released on Tuesday, didn’t give much away in the release notes, which only said it would improve stability and reliability of the MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, although the update is recommended for all 2018 models.

The macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 Supplemental Update 2 improves the stability and reliability of MacBook Pro with Touch Bar (2018) computers, and is recommended for all users.

Following the update’s release, MacRumors pressed Apple for more information. It explains:

When contacted by MacRumors for clarification, Apple said the Supplemental Update improves system stability and reliability across a number of areas, and addresses several issues, including crackling audio and kernel panics. Apple said it recommends all users install the update on their MacBook Pros.

Kernel panics and crackling audio were reported previously by some early adopters of the 2018 MacBook Pro lineup. Some users also said they were having thermal throttling issues with the laptop, which Apple quickly resolved through the first macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 Supplemental Update.

Since the latest supplemental update launched yesterday, Aug. 28, MacRumors has seen mixed reports across the Apple Support Communities, Reddit, and its own MacRumors discussion forums.

Apple’s expected to release the first public version of macOS Mojave 10.14 in the coming days. That update could also address the issues mentioned above, although the current macOS Mojave beta version does not.
