tvOS 11 beta 5 for Apple TV available for developer testing

The iPhone maker today released a fifth beta (build number 15J5347f) of the upcoming tvOS 11 software update for the fourth-generation Apple TV to its registered developers and members of the paid Apple Developer Program, ahead of its scheduled release in the fall.

The new beta should release to public beta testers shortly, likely within the next 24 hours.

tvOS 11 comes with minor improvements, such as the ability to synchronize your Home screen across multiple Apple TVs via iCloud, automatic switching between Light and Dark mode based on local time, new background multitasking modes, layered image improvements, support for notifications, custom sounds and right-to-left languages, plus other tidbits.

TUTORIAL: How to install tvOS public beta on your Apple TV

Non-developers or just about anyone wishing to test-drive tvOS 11 betas on their Apple TV must first sign up for Apple’s Beta Software Program at beta.apple.com.

Be sure to sign up for the public beta program using the same Apple ID you use for iCloud services on your Apple devices, then go to Settings → System → Software Updates on your Apple TV and enable the feature labeled Get Beta Updates.

The Software Update mechanism should prompt you to install the latest beta of tvOS 11 as soon as it’s available. If not, you can check for tvOS updates manually at any time.

tvOS 11 will release for public consumption this fall for the fourth-generation Apple TV.
