How to view a map via the Spotlight search page

Mappr is a recently released jailbreak tweak that replaces the traditional Spotlight search with that of a map. The map can be configured in the Settings app to track your location or to change the map type.

Although the idea of Mappr sounds interesting, its execution leaves a bit to be desired. Check out our video walkthrough to see what I mean.

For starters, any of the tweak’s preferences that you configure by means of the Settings app requires a respring. While annoying, I would generally be able to live with that in most cases.

Unfortunately, Mappr contains quite a few glitches and bugs with the way it replaces Spotlight. The problem is that it doesn’t really replace Spotlight at all, it just sort of places itself on top of the current Spotlight interface. For that reason, you’ll find that they keyboard pops up along with various icons if you happen to touch the wrong area of the map. Watch the video; you’ll see the glitches that I’m referring to.

Mappr’s whole point is to save time, but at this stage in the game, I think it’s probably best to just launch the Maps app if you need to gather your bearings. Mappr can be downloaded for $0.99 on Cydia’s BigBoss repo. Be sure to let me know what you think about it in the comments below.
