The Apple TV Gets a Silent Update

Today, Apple released iOS 4.4 for the Apple TV 2G. Apple did not release an official iOS 5 update for Apple TV users as expected.

As noted by the folks over at Electronista, Apple did however release iOS 4.4 for the Apple TV. This update adds iOS 5 features, but is still called iOS 4. This update adds AirPlay mirroring, Photo Stream, and Movie Trailers. Apple also added some third party apps, such as an NHL app and a WSJ app for video consumption.

Today Apple released the Cards app for iOS, which allows you create cards and mail them. Apple showed this app at their latest keynote, along with the iPhone 4S. This app lets you make custom cards on your iPhone and send them to any address in the world.

Text Message Alert Tones Now Available in iTunes

Unless you jailbroke your iPhone, one downside of iOS was that you were not able to extra text message and alert tones. You were limited to the tones in the Settings app.

This is now a thing of the past, as Apple has updated the iTunes app for iOS with a new section to purchase alert tones...

Apple released iOS 5 to the public only moments ago, and it's already been confirmed that you can jailbreak the final version of iOS 5 with RedSn0w and Sn0wBreeze.

OS X Updated to 10.7.2, Now Supports iCloud

Apple Releases iOS 5 to the Public, Update Available Now

Apple today made iOS 5 available to the public, with the update now being pushed out via iTunes for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Porting Siri to the iPhone 4 Will Require Piracy

Last week we broke the news that jailbreak hacker iH8sn0w was actively working on bringing Siri to iDevices like the 4G iPod touch and iPhone 4. This got a lot of people excited at the possibility of getting access to Siri's artificial intelligence without having to upgrade to the iPhone 4S.

This morning, the Dev Team's MuscleNerd sent out a tweet saying that porting Siri to the iPhone 4 or any other iDevice would most likely require piracy, something that the Dev Team has always refused to do...

iTunes in the Cloud Launching Internationally Right Now

Back when Apple first announced iCloud, and the subsequent beta, one of the new features to make the biggest splash was iTunes in the Cloud. Up until that point, if an iTunes customer bought a song and deleted it they were stuck with no option but to either call Apple support and try to sweet talk them into issuing a refund or replacement track, or to simply stump up the cash all over again.

With iTunes in the Cloud, that was no-longer the case.  Now, a new Purchased section in iTunes lists all bought music as well as apps and books, and the world is a better place for it.
