Jailbreak Meetups Coming to Your Area?

We’ve told you about MyGreatFest, the jailbreaking event that will allow thousand of iDevice hackers to congregate. It looks like the folks over at ModMyi also see jailbreaking as a great way for folks to connect.

It appears they are using Meetup.com, a website geared to help organize a local group or find one in your area, as a vehicle for this endeavor. From Tampa, Florida to Everett, Washington, these ‘meetups’ between jailbreakers have already started to take place…

ModMyi has noted that almost 200 people from around the country have already begun to hold meetings. If you are interested in attending one of these events or starting your own, visit the official meetup page.

Are you a jailbreaking aficionado? Do you love showing off your modded phone? Want to chat about tweaks, apps, and more? Now you can use this community to organize a Jailbreaking Meetup in your area!”

You’ll need a Meetup.com account, but it doesn’t cost anything to register. Once you’re signed in, just find a meeting near you that you’d like to attend and click “count me in,” or you can setup your own Meetup location.

Not only is the site encouraging meetings locally, they are pitching a worldwide Meetup day on July 10, 2011. Mark it on your calendars, the First Global Jailbreak Meetup Day is happening in over 100 communities around the globe to commemorate the original iPhone jailbreak.

If you do attend a Meetup, make sure to post relevant tweets and pictures with #JailbreakMeetup. This is a tribute to how big the jailbreak community is getting.

I don’t know if this is really my thing, but I am certainly supportive of anything that raises awareness of the jailbreaking scene.

Have you attended a Jailbreak Meetup? Would you attend one if given the chance?
