SMS on GV integrates Google Voice SMS into your Messages app

By Cody Lee on May 23, 2013

Avid Google Voice users will be happy to hear that there’s a new jailbreak tweak out that integrates Google’s SMS service into the stock Messages app. We’ve seen tweaks like this before, such as SMS GV Extension. But to my knowledge, none of them made it to iOS 6.

The tweak we’re going to be talking about today, however, does support iOS 6 (as well as later versions). It’s called SMS on GV, and like the others we’ve seen, it allows you to send and receive text messages using your Google Voice account from within Messages… Read More

Give your iPhone a gorgeous makeover with iMIUI

By Cody Lee on May 16, 2013

A few days ago, we were contacted by one of the developers of a jailbreak theme I had never heard of before called iMIUI. In the email they told us that we just had to check out their theme, saying it could be the next ayecon.

Given that Surenix’s ayecon theme is easily the most popular in the jailbreak community right now, that’s a pretty bold statement. But after using iMIUI over the past few days, I’m starting to think they might just be right… Read More

By Cody Lee on Mar 31, 2013

In the summer of 2011, jailbreak developers participated in a cool project called tweak week. Several devs each took a week, and released one new jailbreak tweak everyday. It went on for 3+ months, and we got several great tweaks out of it.

One of those tweaks was ToDoNotes, by TwitkaFly developer moeseth, which added a notepad to the Spotlight page that talked with the Notes app, giving you quick access to your memos. And version 2 just came out with iOS 6 support… Read More

How to re-enable background audio playback for Safari videos in iOS 6

By Cody Lee on Mar 30, 2013

Remember the good old days, in iOS 5, when you could listen to a video’s audio in the background on your device while multitasking? All you had to do was double tap the Home button, swipe to the left to reveal the iPod controls, and press Play.

But for some reason, Apple disabled this feature in iOS 6, leaving us without a native way to do things like listen to YouTube videos in Safari while texting or browsing Twitter. But the good news is, we’ve come across a fairly easy way to get it back… Read More

By Cody Lee on Mar 20, 2013

Yesterday, we bid farewell to one of the most infamous jailbreaks of all time: evasi0n. Born on February 4, it lasted nearly 6 weeks before Apple finally disabled it by way of the iOS 6.1.3 software update it issued yesterday.

It certainly served its purpose though. According to Jay Freeman, aka Saurik, Cydia saw more than 18 million unique iPhones, iPads and iPod touches, running iOS 6 (or later), visit during the jailbreak’s 6-week long run… Read More

Evasi0n 1.5.2 released with new language support

By Jeff Benjamin on Mar 11, 2013

It’s been quite a while now, and iOS 6.x is still vunerable to the Evasi0n jailbreak. According to reports, the next version of iOS 6 — iOS 6.1.3 — is expected to change that, stamping out the exploits and potential security vulnerabilities used by Evasi0n. In the mean time, though, it’s all gravy. In fact, Evasi0n was just updated today, which brings its version number up to 1.5.2

Evasion 1.5.2 is a very minor update that has to do with language localizations. More specifically, support has been added to include localizations for the native languages of the Evad3rs: French, German, and Chinese. Read More

AssistantLove receives an iOS 6 update

By Jeff Benjamin on Feb 18, 2013

One of my favorite jailbreak tweaks, AssistantLove, just received an update for iOS 6 compatibility. AssistantLove was featured in our top jailbreak tweaks of 2012 list, and would have been added to my “perfect iPhone” feature, if it had iOS 6 compatibility at the time.

If you’re a Spotify user like I am, then you will really appreciate what AssistantLove brings to the table. Along with allowing you to integrate GPS apps with Siri, and launch apps using shortcut names, AssistantLove meshes Siri with Spotify. This means that you pretty much search for any song or artist you can think of using your voice. Read More

Music Controls Pro 6.0+ discounted while developers bring features back to iOS 6.x

By Mike Schnier on Feb 13, 2013

Since iOS 3.x, the most feature rich jailbreak apps for music was Music Controls Pro. If you wanted a custom control overlay for music, swipe controls, a remote server, and a host of other features, Music Controls Pro was the way to go. Unfortunately, the original version of Music Controls Pro is no longer compatible with iOS 6.

While the all new Music Controls Pro 6.0+ only has a fraction of the previous app’s capabilities, the price is currently discounted to $3.99 while the developers bring the new app up to speed. Currently Music Controls Pro includes swipe controls, Notification Center plugins for playback and volume, task switcher controls, and status bar integration for song titles. These are the core features that kept the original Music Controls Pro on my iPad in iOS 5.1.1… Read More

3 steps to protect your iOS 6 jailbreak

By Jeff Benjamin on Feb 12, 2013

When you consider the amount of hard work that went into providing the public with an iOS 6 jailbreak, and how long it took for that solution to come to fruition, protecting the jailbreak is of paramount concern. Recently BigBoss added a section to each page of its highly visible repo addressing the concern, that’s how important it is.

There are some basic fundamental steps that you should take for the sake of preserving your device’s iOS 6 jailbreak. That’s simply because, as you know, you never know how long it will take for the next jailbreak to come around. Once Apple inevitably addresses the exploits used in the evasi0n untethered jailbreak, chances are we’ll have to wait deep into iOS 7′s lifecycle before we get another jailbreak, if we do at all.

So again, it’s of real concern for those of you who love your jailbroken device, to read the following 3 tips and strategies, and implement them. Read More

Pull To Refresh Safari updated for iOS 6

By Mike Schnier on Feb 12, 2013

If you are an avid user of Twitter or Facebook, you likely see ‘pull to refresh’ as an essential part of the smart phone experience. So it’s surprising to see how slow Apple has been to bring the gesture to its internal apps. In iOS 6, Apple finally cued in and included their own implementation of Pull To Refresh in Mail. Unfortunately this hasn’t carried over to every one of Apple’s internet-enabled apps; Safari still lacks the feature.

Of course, jailbreakers have had access to Pull To Refresh Safari since iOS 4. Instead of pressing a tiny icon, we could just pull the screen down and refresh the active app. Now the tweak has been updated to work with iOS 6… Read More
