XBMC updated with iPhone 5 support and other improvements

By Cody Lee on Mar 19, 2013

Popular open-source media player XBMC has been updated today, bringing the app to version 12.1. The update improves the experience across all of Apple’s platforms, including the Mac, iOS and Apple TV.

For most users, the iOS update will be the most welcomed change, as it brings about support for the iPhone 5’s larger 4-inch display. And Apple TV2 users will be similarly pleased with further support for iOS 6… Read More

XBMC for Apple TV now compatible with iOS 6.1 (5.2)

By Cody Lee on Feb 22, 2013

Shortly after the release of the iOS 6.x jailbreak tool evasi0n, FireCore rolled out a new version of its Seas0nPass utility to support the latest firmware. Folks with a second-gen ATV on iOS 6.1 (5.2) can now enjoy an untethered jailbreak.

Up until now, though, most people (including myself) have been reluctant to upgrade to the new software because many Apple TV apps still don’t support it. But you’ll be happy to hear that XBMC has just taken its name off of that list… Read More

Great news today for Windows users with a jailbroken Apple TV2. The popular jailbreak tool known as nito Installer, which was released for the Mac platform back in August, is now available on Microsoft’s OS.

Nito Installer allows you to easily install nitoTV and XBMC on a jailbroken Apple TV

By Jeff Benjamin on Dec 17, 2012

Thanks to the folks over at FireCore, both jailbreaking and installing useful jailbreak apps on an Apple TV 2 is about as easy as it gets. FireCore’s jailbreak tool — Seas0npass — is incredibly simple, and it’s free.

Likewise, FireCore’s application package — aTV Flash (black) — is extremely simple as well, though there is a charge associated with using it. Pretty much everything that you can install using aTV flash (black) can be accomplished on your own with a bit of know how, but its simplicity makes the package worth the money.

Now Kevin Bradley, better known in hacking circles as nitoTV, has created his own easy to use installer, appropriately called, nito Installer. Unlike aTV flash (black), his version is free and runs directly on an iOS device like the iPhone or iPad.

Want to see how it works? Take a look inside as we take nito Installer for a spin… Read More

Nito Installer released for jailbroken ATVs

By Cody Lee on Aug 11, 2012

The jailbroken Apple TV community has been awfully quiet as of late. There still hasn’t been any news on the ATV3 jailbreak, and there may never be, and innovation on the ATV2 front has sort of stalled.

Until today, that is. Kevin Bradley, better known as nitoTV, has released a new utility for jailbroken Apple TVs called nito Installer. The app makes installing software on hacked ATVs easier than ever before… Read More

XBMC Now Available For the iPhone And Other iOS Devices

By Jeff Benjamin on Jan 22, 2011

I can honestly say that I never expected to see XBMC running on my iPhone in a million years. It’s still kind of surreal adding the Cydia repo, downloading the packages, and installing the whole shebang.

The good news is that it’s definitely XBMC, in fact it looks like the devs applied a shrinking ray to my 50″ TV, because the port is dead on from a looks perspective.

Unfortunately, though, that’s where the inherent problems start to arise, at least on the iPhone’s teeny touch screen…
