Today, Apple released tvOS 9.1.1, a brand new software update for the fourth-generation Apple TV which brings the Podcasts app to the set-top box along with a fix for unexpected password prompts when downloading apps when restrictions are set and unspecified security improvements.

If it’s not showing up on your Apple TV 4 yet, wait a few minutes and try again because software updates take some time to propagate.

tvOS 9.1.1 includes:

  • A fix for unexpected password prompts when downloading apps when restrictions are set – A UIKit bug fix for color display
  • Security improvements
  • Podcasts app for tvOS

Below, you’ll find a few screenshots of the Podcasts app.

This software update can be downloaded and applied to your Apple TV in the Settings → System → Softeare Updates section, right under the Maintenance heading.

There, choose Update Software and then select the Download and Install option. When the update finishes downloading, select Update Now or Update Later. To update now and automatically install future updates, select Update Automatically.

Don’t unplug your Apple TV while it restarts and installs the update.

I wish they’d fix the bug where apps don’t auto-update. It’s really a pain in the ass to manually go into every app you own just to see if there is an update or not…

    • Carl

You’re a pain in the ass

  • Kenneth Delgado

    Does this include folder support?

    • Chris Wagers

Seriously? Very last paragraph in article “Apple is also working on the more substantial tvOS tvOS 9.2 software update which will enable support for Bluetooth keyboards and app folders.”

      • Kenneth Delgado

Don’t know what’s taking them so much, you call this an “update”? — Nobody likes the stock podcast app.

      • Tom García

        Maybe that’s why it’s a 9.1.x update…

      • Kenneth Delgado

Let me know when they enable folder support.

    • stylesbeyond

folder support is in the latest beta has been for a weeks now

Just in case anyone else runs into this… I had to go into Settings -> General -> Restrictions to allow the Podcast app to play anything with an explicit rating.

    • Did you have any sort of restrictions enabled prior to having this issue?

      • brad

No. I had to create a pin when I went into it for the first time. I assume if you already have used restrictions, it would not be an issue.

  • Kenneth Delgado

Also wondering, does this update fix or delete any (null) apps on you have on your ATV? — If not, does anyone know how to fix this issue. Thanks in advance!

  • Carl

    Don’t be that guy Kenny….

    • Kenneth Delgado

Lol, how do you know that I go by Kenny?

      • Carl

That cannot be a real question

Does anyone know if this update will prevent the installation of Kodi?

  • Wood1030

I updated yesterday and Kodi was still working.
Though I don’t know if the new update will prevent you from installing it now, (if you didn’t already have it installed).
