The jailbreak seemingly came out of nowhere, but we can confirm that it 100% works. We tested the jailbreak on our device running iOS 7.1.1 and it worked just as advertised, burning two exploits in the process.

Pangu will eventually come in two flavors—a Windows version and a Mac version—however, the Mac version is still in development. Inside, we’ll show you how to jailbreak iOS 7.1.x on your device using Pangu for Windows.

The Pangu jailbreak should work with the following devices: iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPod touch 5th gen, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad mini with Retina Display.

Video Tutorial

How to jailbreak iOS 7.1.x with Pangu for Windows

Step 1: Download the latest version of Pangu from our downloads page

Step 2: Plug your iOS 7.1.x device in to your computer’s USB port

Step 3: Run Pangu_v1.0.exe on your Windows machine. If you see weird characters, it may be due to Windows not displaying the Chinese character-set correctly. Simply follow along in our video above to see what we mean.

Step 4: Make sure the checkbox is unchecked, and click the Start Jailbreak button.

Step 5: Pangu will ask you to go to Settings > General > Date & Time and disable the Set Automatically toggle. You will then need to set the date to June 2, 2014.

Step 6: The jailbreak process will start. Eventually you will see the Pangu app icon on the Home screen. Tap the Pangu icon to launch the Pangu app.

Step 7: Wait patiently, and the jailbreak will process. The video tutorial is sped up, the whole process takes about 10-15 minutes, so be patient.

Step 8: Once the jailbreak is completed, you should see a “enjoy your new jailbreak message”. Unlock your device, and you should see Cydia on the Home screen.

Congratulations. You now have an untethered jailbreak on iOS 7.1.x. Pangu should automatically set your date setting in Settings > General > Date & Time back to Set Automatically.

A Mac version should be out soon, and as soon as it is, we’ll post a Mac tutorial as well.

Have you tried to jailbreak your iOS 7.1.x device yet? How did you fare? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Update: An official version of Pangu has now been released for Mac OS X. We’ve created a walkthrough video and tutorial for jailbreaking iOS 7.1.x on a Mac.

  • enifome

i keep entering in a loop help!!!!

  • Dmac

Seems pretty safe to me. Evasi0n isn’t planning on making a jailbreak for ios 7.1.x, so just get this.

  • Anyone able to help me, when I launch the Pangu tool this is what I get. I can do anything else with it, no amount of clicking or keyboard bashing helps, changing my phones date/time to 2 June 2014 has no effect.
I’m using an iPhone 4 with iOS 7.1.1

  • iPT MSTR

Cool…. Now I can Jailbreak my phone too…

  • Mini Apple Genius

Can someone please help me? I did it once, after a while, the question marks became red, and it offered me to start again. I tried it again today, connect to the internet with both my Mac and iPad 4. I did it, and it restarted. I did not see no “enjoy your jailbreak”, nor Cydia. The Pangu app was still there. The question marks were red. Can the iPad have been updated OTA? Someone please help me, as this is my first jailbreak for iOS 7, an iPad, and my iOS device. Thanks! (I am following all the instructions, so don’t ask if i set the date back, please.)

    • Chris Gilmore

Man I’m getting the same damn thing. I don’t understand what’s going on. I’m following the instructions to a T.

      • Mini Apple Genius

I found out why (I found out the same day, actually)! Disable your password/passcode. When you are done jailbreaking, you can re-enable it.

      • Chris Gilmore

Just did that after a clean restore. Still doesn’t work. Getting the red ???? now. This is ridiculous.

Hi guys i had recently jailbroken my iphone4s (ios7.1) using pangu. Every things works fine but there’s an issue which after i downloaded and installed tweaks on cydia the installation process are just stuck at the black screen (the black screen which we’ll see every times when cydia is downloading and installing tweaks). I have to each and every time to hard reboot the device by pressing the home and sleep button together to get the process done. But however after i do so the tweaks are still works and nothing happens to the device. Cydia just seems to be like won’t auto respring after i installed tweak which i would be automatically done before. Please help the issue is too annoying 🙁 Thanks!

  • Raechel Mclain

I jailbroke my iphone 5 with pangu worked great!

  • smclain1300

I had trouble when first trying to install it. Followed the directions to a “T” and I never got the “enjoy your jailbreak” message – and let my phone sit there for several minutes while the progress bar didn’t finish that tiny last little step. I got a weird message about my google account (see pic). Anyway, tried repeating the process (after rebooting my phone a few times) but no dice until I closed the Pangu program on my computer and then opened it back up. Then it worked exactly like it said it would. No need to restore!

Hope that helps anyone that may have had the same issue. =)

pangu is not a valid win32 application

  • Muffinheadicus

I was having problems with Pangu ‘timeout error’ in red text.
It was continous and Pangu would not install.
If you have this problem, you MUST RESTORE your ipad in itunes to New Ipad/Iphone/etc and then run the jailbreak. It installed without a hitch. Do NOT install PP25 though. It will mess you up and you will have to do this all over again.
Hope this helps. Oh, make sure you back up your data first before doing the Restore or you will pretty much lose everything.

  • Dale J. Rodriguez

#Pangu jailbreak complete. Thanks for the video.

  • Carlos Carpio

Wow I just did it and no problem. SUper Clean. I love China
But I still; I cannot get any cellular service to make/receive phone calls . However I can get data service with the SIM card.

  • Sunil Vadoliya

I am getting this error even though i have 8.04GB free space on my iPhone 4S

  • Nicolette Dimon

Maybe I am doing something wrong, so I’m hoping someone can help me. I have downloaded this on my work computer which runs Windows 7 Professional and my home laptop which runs Windows Vista. After loading the exe file, I get an error on both that state “not a Win32 application”. I have removed them, redownloaded and still get the same error. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Steven

Just a small amount of advice if it does not work for you turn off your password to unlock your device. I jailbroke my Iphone 5s with no problem but when jailbreaking my Ipad 4th gen pengu kept running into errors by showing red question marks I determined that it was due to the fact my password was enabled. Once I unlocked my device it worked fine.

  • mikegak

I have made this process to my iphone 4s ios 7.1.1 and it was succesful but after I finished loading the filesystem the phone rebooted and when it opened the message icon was gone any help please

  • mobiIevids

I will do anything to get Cydia back so I can install that new “bigU” movies app from Cydia using either xSellize repo, insanelyi repo, or install it from Zeusmos or Appcake. I don’t care if this is a Chinese jailbreak. I got get my hands on that “bigU” movie app so bad. I been hearing nothing but good things about it..

  • FerroMag123

Why is it everytime I go to jailbreak using THIS app, it crashes?

  • ‡ James ‡

Hey.. I jailbroke my iPhone 4 (7.1.1) with PanGu and now when i try to download anything with Cydia it says: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)… does anybody know what I could do?

  • Tommy

It’s not working on my old iPhone 4 with Modem Firmware 04.12.09…which has never been Jailbreakable. It stops halfway through with a red error message that I can’t read. Anyone else seen this?

    • Tommy

Got it working after doing a fresh restore of 7.1.1. Wow.

  • martha

it wont let me click on the jailbreak button after unchecking the box. what do i do?

  • James Stump

I kept getting 3 red ??? when it was almost finished on my ipad 2 and that’s where it would get stuck. I fixed it by simply removing the pass code lock and sliding it to open after the pangu app rebooted the ipad. Once I did that that the jailbreak completed. Thought I was going to have to restore from what I read online but it was just the pass code lock holding up the process.

    • Chris Gilmore

I can’t get past that either.

      • James Stump

Your turned your passcode lock off on the device?

  • Chris Gilmore

Ok will SOMEBODY please help? First I was getting the red “???” and my phone just sat there doing nothing. So then I followed somebody’s directions and took off my password lock. But now it’s just rebooting to a blue screen on my 5s and then reboots, I open my phone and it still has the Pangu app with no jailbreak at all. And then there’s this “profile” on my settings app that says “Heifabang” or something like that. Wtf is that?

  • Iain

wish this was in english as i had to do a restore on my phone and now it won’t jailbreak…. i’m still on iOs 7.1.1…. it goes through the process of installation but gets on near the end and does noting apart from four question marks…. anybody else had this problem and how did you solve it…?

    Many thanks
    an upset jailbreaker :'(

    • Iain

its all sorted now… i disabled the autolock and clicked PanGu when the installation seemed to of stopped then it completed the installation 😀

    • ridonkulous

Right after setting the date back, look for the Pangu app icon on your device. Once you click on it, the jailbreak will commence. I found this from another comment further down that is more precise on instructions.

      • Iain

Thanks for your quick reply ridonkulous much appreciated 😀

        I’m a happy Jailbreaker again 😀

      • ridonkulous

        No problem.

Hi guys I really need some help. I updated my iPhone to jailbreak it again, but it didn’t detect the fact that I adjusted the date. I wiped my phone and it didn’t detect it again. I can’t find any common story like mine. Any ideas? (btw I have an iPhone 5s 32gb)

  • Jonathan Teo Yao Hao

i followed the whole procedure, i made sure that i quit itunes, but i still can’t get cydia on my iphone 5 🙁 why?

  • texos

blocked at step 4, pangu wont detect ipad 2 on 7.1.1 🙁

  • Jordan

i need help! i used pangu successfully, but when cydia was installing i didn’t have enough space. My ipad restarted and cydia was gone. Just to be safe i restored my ipad to a previous backup before trying again. But the pengu launcher now says “already jailbroken” next to my device name and wont allow me to jailbreak on 1.1 and it times out on 1.0

  • key

    is it still working?
