Now that iOS 7 GM has been officially released, the evad3rs — the team responsible for bringing us the iOS 6 evasi0n jailbreak last winter — have started looking into iOS 7. The team, according to prominent iOS hacker and team member @planetbeing, are now in a reconnaissance phase to see which exploits, if any, still work with iOS 7.

This is being done on existing devices like the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, etc. The new devices, especially the iPhone 5S with its 64-bit processor, will presumably be another massive hurdle to overcome once they launch later this month. Regardless of what the final outcome may eventually be, this is great news for those of us who would like a jailbreak for iOS 7.

Keep in mind that this is in no way an ETA, or a hint that an ETA may even be close to being revealed for a jailbreak. This is just the beginning investigative phase that’s necessary to get to the point where a jailbreak may even be something to seriously consider.

Still, it is exciting to see that our favorite hackers haven’t moved on to other endeavors, especially when you consider the fact that they are capable of doing pretty much whatever they want in the tech space. What do you think?

  • Danuel Carr

Do it up guys. Thankfully, iOS7’s features will make the wait a lot more bearable.

    • Mohamed Ahmed

      Because it well be bugy

      • Danuel Carr

It’s running smooth as silk on my iPad 4. And I would expect that most of the bugs will be cleared out by the final release.

      • ModernSpartan

        same with iphone 4s

      • Tom

        And iPhone 5.

I have to say, the only thing that is missing on iOS7 is Bite (for quick reply to texts). For me, all the other reasons to jailbreak are gone. Obviously other people may have tweaks and stuff that are missing, but from a selfish point of view, I can live with iOS7, even if the jailbreak takes a while.

      • ModernSpartan

Yeah, a bite-like feature would be nice. But for now, iOS 7 is pretty smooth, can use panorama wallpaper and dynamic wallpaper, a better multi-task than the older firmwares. It’ll keep me satisfied for now until we can have a jailbreak so I can get Moviebox back 🙂

    • Liam Mulcahy

  • Lance Baker

The should wait for 7.1. I see some of the same bugs from the betas in the GM.

  • Topuz

The fact they are testing means they believe they have something that might work. Nice news, I sense we might get iOS 7 jailbreak much sooner than we did with iOS 6.

  • Cameron Nottingham

64 bit processor gonna screw stuff up

    • Core

      only on iphone 5s

      • Cameron Nottingham

Obviously. But all kernel exploits need to be re-written to support 32 bit and 64 bit architechtures

      • Core

        who said they have to

      • SkyFall

        And the iPad 5.

  • Zorvage

Can’t wait for an iO7 untethered jailbreak on my iPhone 5S!

    • Rickm_jr

A jailbreak for the 5S will take longer as it has new hardware, and a more complex processor than its predecessor.

  • solidsephiroth

    Let’s get this party started!

  • Taf Khan

Bring it on Evaders! Lets get outta jail..

  • Eikast

I wonder they’ll delay a jailbreak release if they run into trouble with the 5S.
Either way, I hope that they wait until Apple has stopped releasing bug fixes so that we don’t run into a repeat of the 6.1 jailbreak (6.1,6.1.2,6.1.3,6.1.4 updates).

    • ModernSpartan

probably be a separate update of the tool

  • Kautzky György

    Good Luck EVAD3RS 🙂 😉

  • Kyle Beroney

    sweet. only reason id update

  • Furrnace

AWESOME! Glad they’re still loyal to Apple. Let’s do it!

    • ModernSpartan

you mean the community? apple don’t really support them

      • Furrnace

Yes, I see what you’re saying. I mean the jailbreak community. But I also mean “loyal” in the sense that they stick with apple products. It’d be a sad day if they turned into fAndroids.

      • ModernSpartan

        yeah, your right.

      • AMB_07

Android is already open, it doesn’t really need them for anything…

      • Furrnace

Yeah, it is right? Yet, it’s interesting how my Android-using coworkers are constantly talking about rooting their Android device to be able to install ‘said’ program or feature. Hmm, thought they didn’t need that? Thought that was the beautiful thing about Android is it did everything they wanted right out of the box.

      • AMB_07

Your story doesn’t really have anything to do with what I said. Rooting an android device doesn’t takr much because on one hand you have a company that leaves its os opened to modifications and another that closes and its os and leaves all of the control to themselves. What I meant was that iOS users need the jailbreak hackers whereas on Android, not so much.

      • Furrnace

And to add to my initial comment, which stems from my appreciation to how organized the iPhone jailbreak community is–people “root” Android all the time. It’s not nearly as seamless, I’ve been there first hand. I’m thankful for these guys like the Evaders and Saurik who keep this community alive! In my mind, they’re the real heroes behind Apple’s innovation. Many of the features Apple later integrates were most of the time once a jailbreak tweak in one form or another.

      • onebyone_

Yep, Android is open like a bitch.

        sorry :/

  • sivkai

“..they are capable of doing pretty much whatever they want in the tech space”

A tad bit exaggerated, don’t you think. Their speciality lies in identifying OS vulnerabilities and exploiting, that doesn’t mean they are experts in other tech related areas.

Having said that, they are great iOS exploiters and I look forward to their progress.

  • K1ngLe0

    11/12/13… Be ready… It’s coming for a $$$$

    • chumawumba

      lol DreamJB

  • zustroy

Only if and when those heroes of ours jailbreak iOS 7 I will update. Without Jailbreak (NC Settings, Zephyr…) I would never ever buy an iPhone as it is useless.

    • Jamie Tilden

NC Settings: Control Center. Zephyr: I don’t know how this gets implemented in iOS 7 with the Control Center and new app switcher.

      • zustroy

That will be a problem because they do not launch the same way.
I don’t want to click on home button for app switcher that’s very slow and very unconvenient compared to just swipe up!
Control center lacks many option and is useless!
Lock a device? Upper button? Hell now! Unconvenient and slow also!
Swipe to search and boom I locked it!
I don’t know how people put up with that off the shelf crap, I can’t! Way too unconvenient and slow interaction with the iPhone when compared to using those 3 jailbreak tools I mentioned.
That is waaay more important for me than childishly colorful and nothing more than that iOS 7!

      • Farbod

How big of a hurry are you in?!?!

  • Matt Taylor

    Yeeeeeeeeeaah booiiiii

    That’s the spirit!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • himynameisBLiNK

why? it’s just gonna get squashed by 7.0.1

    • Marnix Robyns

if you think like that there is never going to be a next jailbreak, plus if you thought like that it’s a wonder you have an iPhone because next year there will be new iPhone ….

  • Sean Cua

Hopefully we won’t have to wait around 6 months for the jailbreak.

  • Dante Arellano

Guys thank you for years and years of hard work jailbreaking iOS but afters all this changes and involve more secure in the divice as the finger print I’ll say no more jailbreak plus hack 64 bit it could be really changeling good luck guys.

  • Minidad

Greedy B@st@rd5’s. Release the jailbreak already.

JUST KIDDING! No really I am just kidding. Patience is a virtue. Especially when you are waiting for a service from people who can do something I can’t do myself.

    • Palmer Paul

And doing it on donations at that. Keep up the great work guys!

  • D.

Hoping for a tweek that changes the menu colours to just one colour. For example, the messages app has a blue scheme, I’d love that for the music app also.

  • sadaN

I wish these guys would charge for their work.

Disagree? I’m sorry if my opinion offends your wallet.

Perhaps if they did so, people would start realizing how difficult it is for the devs to achieve these jailbreaks and started giving them the recognition they deserve.

I don’t think they would come out with anything any quicker, they probably put as much effort as they can into their researches, but it certainly would bring more skilled people into the scene, which could in way, contribute to speeding up the process.

    • 3aloo1

I think its possible to donate maybe???

    • Tom

If there was a charge to JB your phone, way fewer people would do it.

I agree that they should be rewarded. Maybe a small surcharge (10 cents? 5 cents even?) could be added to the price of every tweak/app that is bought through Cydia (even the free ones) and passed on by Saurik to the evad3rs. I mean nobody would use Cydia if there wasn’t a jailbreak. I wouldn’t mind paying 10cents for a tweak that would be free, or $2.09 for a tweak that would be $1.99. The evad3rs would probably make more money this way that they would charging $10 for the tool anyway.

  • Lumydee

I just need a jailbreak for my iphone 5 running 6.1.4 and i aint upgrading unless there’s a jailbreak for ios 7…fuck iphone 5s i bought my iphone 5 in june

    • Zeus

Well that was stupid of you, if you’re complaining, as Apple always releases a new phone in the fall. It’s not anyone’s fault but your own if you didn’t do a 2 second google search worth of research.

  • Tom

    @planetbeing has posted another update:

Achieved unsigned userland code execution with some of our stuff in reserve. Now we have a good platform for poking the kernel.— planetbeing (@planetbeing) September 11, 2013

  • Tom

This is also great news. Posted 4hrs ago:

  • Dave Becker

Man, I really want to upgrade to IOS 7 but I need Moviebox.

  • Garrett Alkofer

Apple, just give me quick-reply and I will be happy!!!!

  • Globalman

Oh please get me out of iOS 7 it is a misery for me. I stupidly accepted the download without knowing I should investigate what others were saying. Since then I have barely looked in my iPad mini. A wonderful experience has turned into a nightmare.

Further more I received a nasty email from Apple forum regarding my comment about the new update. They said they deleted my comment for being unpleasant and negative. What kind of customer treatment is that?
I hope, hope, hope you people can save people like me. I have tried 3 recommendations to downgrade…. nothing works. I am no Tech genius so I must depend on the younger generations for help.

All the best and thank you.
