iPhone 5S september 10

Apple will take the wraps off of its next generation iPhone, believed to be the iPhone 5S, on September 10, according to a new report from The WSJ-owned AllThingsD. The blog says that sources have confirmed the company is planning a media event for the date.

While we haven’t seen near the amount of “leaked” parts for the new iPhone as we have for the rumored budget model or the iPad 5, we still think we have a pretty good idea what to expect: a familiar-looking device with internal upgrades and an improved camera…

AllThingsD’s Ina Fried has the scoop on the event:

“Apple is expected to unveil its next iPhone at a special event on Sept. 10, sources told AllThingsD. The launch comes at an important time for Apple, which continues to make a lot of money from the iPhone but has seen its global market share dip amid a growing wave of lower-cost Android devices as well as an intense battle with archrival Samsung.”

The report matches up with previous speculation that Apple is going to hold an iPhone event next month, based on the company’s fourth- quarter guidance. It’s also worth noting that last year’s iPhone event was in early September, and Apple tends to favor Tuesdays.

As for what to expect from the event, we’re not exactly sure. Obviously, the new iPhone will be there with its faster processor, better camera with dual-LED flash, and supposedly a built-in fingerprint sensor. But will any other products join the flagship handset on stage?

Considering how much chatter there’s been involving a lower cost iPhone, and all of the alleged parts we’ve seen, it’s hard to imagine it not being on stage at the event. Expect the device to appear in plastic, in a variety of colors, with a price tag around the $300 mark.

Anything else? We’ll just have to wait an see. Mark your calendars folks, September 10 is just a month away.

I’ll pass on the 5S. Keeping my i5 until the iPhone 6 comes out next year.

    • ✪ aidan harris ✪

I’m keeping my 4S until 4G is available in my area. I see no point paying for an expensive 4G, LTE device if I can’t use it…

      • ProfessorX1®

        Who’s your carrier?

      • ✪ aidan harris ✪

I live in the UK and there is currently only 1 carrier with 4G and it’s not available in my area. My 4S isn’t on a contract so I’ll switch carriers as and when I want to since it’s more convenient although when I get the new iPhone it will likely be with which ever carrier has 4G in my area or has announced plans to have 4G in my area. If there’s only one carrier in my area that has plans then they’ll have my business even if it does mean I have to have only a measily 1gb of data…

      • iViperzLTD

I live in the UK as well, even if your area supported 4G, EE is a ripoff, wait until the major networks come out with their own 4G and prices will lower by at least abit and hopefully support more areas 🙂

      • Lagax

So updating from 4S to 5 is all about LTE for you? Also the 4S is able to use 4G, 4G is not equal LTE!

The only thing not interesting me when updating from 4S to 5 was LTE.

      • ✪ aidan harris ✪

Honestly yes. To me there’s nothing that jumps out to me about updating from a 4S to 5. Sure it’s taller, it’s got better internals and a better camera but there’s nothing really that different on the innovation front if you compare them. Maybe if rumours are true the temptation of a fingerprint sensor in the new iPhone will prove too much but other than that and potentially a ground-breaking camera I don’t think anythings going to lure me away from my 4S…

      • rubrixgen

“Sure its taller, it’s got better internals and a better camera”. Isn’t that enough to upgrade? What else do you want?

      • ✪ aidan harris ✪

I’m waiting for something that makes me go “WOW” and then immediately gasp after seeing it. Like I said a fingerprint sensor could do that but then that could also be gimmicky. I’m not the kind of person that feels the need to change their phone every year so it honestly doesn’t bother me how long it is until I upgrade. In fact if Apple doesn’t find a “WOW” feature to stick on a feature phone then maybe better specs will do it for me and I’ll settle for another “S” phone until the next couple of years…

      • mnm221988

It seems like the last “WOW” iPhone we received was the iPhone 4 and the last keynote Steve Jobs did for an iPhone as well. Since than, the 4S and the iPhone 5 haven’t made me jump for joy. The 4 changed the game, better battery, features, and it made so much process. The 4S and the 5 seem to be phones that were playing catch up.

      • Lagax

A reason to spend 700€. If you gift’em he’s probably gonna be ok with it.

      • Damian W

iphone 5 has enough differences to update to it from 4s. The first and main reason to upgrade is SPEED. 4s is just really slow when compared to 5. iPhone 5 in my case is blazing fast with the minimum loading times for any app.

      • Far from enough for me, but to each his own. What I’m looking for you ask?
        – A bit wider to make it TrueHD fit (just taller makes it look like an iPhone 4S that got rolled over by a rolling pin)
        – Over 24 hr battery life on regular day usage (friend’s iPhone 5 last barely 8 hours at 0% brightness)
        – Built-in fingerprint reader
        – Built-in NFC support
        – Built-in IR blaster (after seeing the S4)
        – 802.11 AC Wi-Fi support
        – Liquipeled out of the box (that’s pretty much waterproofing)
        – A readily available jailbreak

So far, the S4 Active fits most of the above features, but I’m in no hurry to go Android, until I lose my jailbreak.

      • leart za jmi

honestly i prefer the iphone 4s over the 5. love the design of 4s
and i don’t mind if ip5 is a little bit faster

      • felixtaf

“(friend’s iPhone 5 last barely 8 hours at 0% brightness)” I dont think this is regular use battery life… Am getting much better battery life even in iOS7 Beta…

Screenshot was from iOS7 Beta 4…. Regular use with 6 email push, all push notifications ON, facebook, twitter, whatsapp, imessage, Hangouts.. few txts n calls… 50% brighness (no auto), 30 -60 mins of mild gaming… All animations on, Dynamic wallpaper and some music too….

I agree to rest of your points, but dont think we r going to get them all!!!

      • He probably has one with the battery gate problem; something I thought Apple would have fixed since the first batch of iPhone 4S…Guess every 1st-batch of iPhones come with that problem (he got it just a couple of weeks after it was released). So, solution would be to wait for a few months after every iPhone release; perhaps until after the next GS# is released 😛

      • bn326160

In Belgium you can’t even get LTE on an iPhone 5 without jailbreak, but you can on an iPad. Because only one carrier supports LTE atm and Apple has (had?) an exclusivity contract with another carrier, therefor the LTE switch is disabled.

    • Justin Rowe

I say I’m going hang on until the iPhone 6 but I know I’ll buckle come launch day and get one lol

The title is total click bait. It should read something like: “Apple rumored to announce new iPhone on September 10”

    • Melvco
      • seyss

        great digging.
edit: oh you’re iDB member 🙂

its still not confirmed no matter who the source is.

      • Lagax

        Yes it is.

      • Dani Hayes

        Not until apple says so.

      • Jamie Tilden

“Apple to unveil new iPhone at September 10th event.” This doesn’t necessarily read as total confirmation: it doesn’t say “Apple confirmed to unveil…”. And nor does the article read like that.

      • Japheth Mast

Let’s agree to disagree, but until Apple confirms this, it’s still a rumor(or should be treated like one)

      • quitcherbichinn

quit being anal. by now it is common knowledge that a new iPhone is announced and released Sept/Oct. last year it was around September 5 the iPhone 5 was shown and around the 23rd that it was released. was around the same time for the 4S. it’s not a stretch that it’ll be around the 10th the next iPhone is shown.

  • Boss

most people gonna start selling their iPhone 5 like 1 week before

  • Lagax

I’m gonna jump and Party if they won’t introduce the low-cost iPhone! *_*

… Just like Steve Jobs would have!

  • iPhone user

I wanted to keep my 4 until the 6 but it looks like I might be upgrading this year since my 4 is so slow now.

    • rubrixgen

Why do you still have an iPhone 4? 0.o

      • Lagax

There are a lot of people buying 4’s just today! Makes like 20% of the US iPhone market.

      • rubrixgen

It doesn’t make sense to buy a phone from 2010.

      • Lagax

I have an iPhone 5, but I can understand people doing it! Not everybody is as rich as you may are, especially in the US. Also the iPhone 4 is still the 3rd best phone out right now. After the 4S and the 5.

      • DevXav

It makes TOTAL sence if you are smart enough to jailbreak it semi-tethered.

      • ✪ aidan harris ✪

Other than the fact the 4 is pretty slow I don’t see a lot wrong with it. Before my 4S I owned an iPhone 3G and sure it was slow, bogged down and permanently stuck on 4.2.1 but it was permanently jailbroken and at the time I loved it…

      • David Gitman

I have an iPhone 4 because I am not rich to buy a new phone. iPhone 4 with 5.1.1 is awesome

      • Guest

        LOLOL 5.1.1

      • David Gitman

I downgraded from 6.1.3 xD best iOS for iPhone4

      • rubrixgen

        LOL nice

      • iPhone user

I never bothered to upgrade lol. But it has gotten so slow after the iOS 6 update I figured now is the time.

      • David Gitman

Belive me iOS 5.1.1 was the smartest thing I ever did

      • mav3rick

New iOS is released with new iPhone. They’re saying the new OS is compatible with older hardware but it is just optimized to use newer resources from newer hardware. Older hardware will always see some degradation in usage on newer OS.

      • bn326160

Because I for example bought it at launch and it still fits my needs. Longest phone I’ve ever used. Think I’ll even skip the 5S and go for an iPad Mini Cellular this year.

    • mehrab

Jumping from a 4 to a 4s is like WOOWWW SMOOOTH FASSTT :O then to a 5 is even more SPEED AND BETTER MUITITASKING the. To a 5s ommg damn your in for a treat

  • Chris Gilmore

I’ve heard many people say “Always buy the 3, 4, or 5, nothing in between.” But isn’t it better to buy the upgraded versions? If my dad hadn’t wanted my 4S, I wouldn’t have gotten the 5 until this “5S” that’s coming. It’s obviously the better versions.

    • Lagax

No. Sorry, but no. If you only want to update every two years then do it with 3,4,5. Because if the 6 comes:
      1. Everybody will see you have the old one
      2. It will be looking totally different, maybe again have a different screen size,…

The point is apps focus on that stuff and you, then, want the newest handset. Buying the S-Versions only is pretty senseless. Sorry.

      • Chris Gilmore

You don’t have to keep saying “sorry” just because you disagree. Lol I see what y’all are saying about “when the 6 comes out” but that’s why I’d just wait for “6S” because it’ll (based on prior S versions) be faster have cooler shit like Siri or Fingerprint scanner.

      • Chris Gilmore

        P.s. yes, sorry. But yes.

    • rubrixgen

If you buy the “S” model, when the next gen comes out, you’re stuck with the old design. Thats why.

      • Chris Gilmore

Then you buy the S of the new design.

    • Lagax

No. Sorry, but no. If you only want to update every two years then do it with 3,4,5. Because if the 6 comes:
      1. Everybody will see you have the old one(and seriously, isn’t having an iPhone a fashion-statement, too?)
      2. It will be looking totally different, maybe again have a different screen size,…

The point is apps focus on that stuff and you, then, want the newest handset. Buying the S-Versions only is pretty senseless. Sorry.

  • Dragonballz

New iPods for the music event

  • ConduciveMammal

So assuming the new iPhone is unvieled on the 10th September, any guesses of when it will be available?

    • rubrixgen

Most likely one to two weeks after the event.

      • ConduciveMammal

        Awesome thanks

      • rubrixgen

    • ✪ aidan harris ✪

Doesn’t Apple normally offer there iPhone to US customers immediately?

      • ConduciveMammal

I don’t recall that ever happening but I could be wrong.

      • Peter Cao

If I re-call correctly, the iPhone 5 was unveiled on a Wednesday, and then became available to the US on Friday. Correct me if I’m wrong.

      • gpscar

It was announced on 9/12 which was a Wednesday but it was put on preorder 9/14 (Friday) and released 9/21 the following Friday.

  • Joseph

Will the iPad 5 likely be unveiled on the same day, or a completely different date?

    • Lagax

Later event, like every year. Most propably with the iPad mini 2

      • Joseph

        Thanks for the info!

    • rubrixgen

The event would be too long and Apple would want to focus only on iPhone. The new iPads will be announced in October.

      • Joseph

Thanks. That’s unfortunate, I was hoping it was before October because that’s when I’ll be buying my iPad 4, and I don’t really feel like waiting and saving up any more money; just wanted to know if the iPad 5 would be worth waiting.

      • mehrab

Hmmm newer better design thinner lighter better display im not sure if”ll be in terms of sharpness but in terms of saturation im sure 2 times cpu (at-least 9 times gpu) a4 to the a5 was also 9 times. Better cameras. More ram. Some fingerprint technology. Better battery. Sl its up to you wait/get the 4 i”d wait if i was you

      • rubrixgen

Yup. Don’t worry about it though. It will come.

  • armvnd.

getting the “S” versions is actually the best idea. the heck are you guys thinking? the “S” versions always have the biggest improvements and introduce new features, see: 3GS = video recording, voice control & compass; 4S = Siri; 5S = fingerprint sensor (?) & NFC (?). not only are the “S” versions faster, they introduce something unique. the predecessors and successors either don’t have that/those feature(s) or don’t introduce anything new besides new physical design, respectively. look at the i4 in comparison to the 3GS.

    • armvnd.

the i4 included the same features, just after processor and external upgrade. basically, the same phone. for people with the i4, the 5S would be choice.

    • Julian Gigola

      he’s right! for instance…

look at the i5 next to the i4S: Just a Bigger display.

look at the i4 next to the i3GS: Just a Retina Display.

“S” Versions are always better and always have the special stuff like siri or a great camera with them and also they are improved versions of their predecessors.

      • Sam Khan

sure you are right. but thats also true that i4 also introduced front facing camera for facetime which was groundbreaking for me atleast.

      • armvnd.

    • batongxue

We want something groundbreaking, that is why we are waiting.

      • armvnd.

understanble. however, i wasn’t suggesting that you “need” to get an iPhone. i was simply saying that between the standard models and the “S” models, the latter would technically and feature-wise be the “better” choice. especially for ones with pre-Siri devices, if you chose to remain with Apple. personally, i prefer Apple’s UI and usability. i have had an i4 before the 4S was released under a two-year contract, so i will be getting the 5S for that reason. i’m not that much into the whole “arms race” of groundbreaking features amongst Apple & Samsung. everyone has their own needs and wants in a phone. i just happen to choose Apple. i am quite honestly, a simple man.

  • iHamzaDev

    Will be upgrading, as usual.

  • Kenny Woodard

Hmm I’m gonna keep an eye on that, but I’m def more interested in IFA where Samsung will announce the Note 3 and I think Sony is set to unveil the Honami(?) their new flagship. Apple is gonna have some serious competition next month. Unless the 5s has a bigger display, bye bye Apple iPhone for me.

      • Gorgonphone

Ah you get me! And you were spot on !!! I love apple so much that if the do wrong i will tell them i dont hate andriod but its a fact that ios is just better i wish android was better so the apple would see reason to keep being great but thats not happening now at all…

  • batongxue

I’ll keep my HTC One until iPhone 6 changes everything once again.
Come on! Apple! You can do it!

    • Kenny Woodard

Better hope Apple changes everything by adding Cydia out of the box. I don’t see Apple changing anything but maybe having a thinner, 4.3″ phone. Oh and maybe a 20mp camera. They better take a page from Moto Maker and give customization to their users. Otherwise just gonna be another plain old iPhone.

      • “give customization to their users”

A 0.1% chance of happening in the Apple world; remember, you pay Apple to make your decisions for you (that’s what they think), but one can hope.

      • mehrab

These are facts. The htc one/gs4 fails to defaet the iphone 5 in camera/performance/design i dont think they need to make huge internal upgrades

  • Jacque Miller

I’m really hoping all the rumours end up being false and they forego a 5s and unveil the 6 instead since we had to wait a whole year for a new phone to come out. It’s a definitiv buy for me as I happen’ to believe that this might be the last device, which is going to be jailbreakable.
There are a lot of folks thinking about switching to android, in the jailbreak community. To bad, but android has really been steping up it games in the last couple of years.

Good for you man i use android and ios and i know what you mean android is good byt expirience wise ios is just better iphones are just better. Sure they have bad specs comapred to android flagships but the gs4 lags while the iphone 5 just doesn’t and opens everything quicker

I think it’s a mistake to bring out “s” iPhones if they just made this the iPhone 6 then people wouldn’t say “I’ll wait for the iPhone 6… because this is not really a new iPhone but just a stepping stone to the REAL next generation iPhone. Regardless if it deserves to be iPhone 6 or not, I think they would fare better not having in between “s” versions.
