Don’t you just hate it when you need to position your character in a specific spot, but you can’t accurately do so due to the iPhone’s lack of single character movement? I think we’ve all been there.

Fortunately, SwipeShiftCaret solves that issue by allowing you to swipe your finger on the screen to move a character space either left or right.

It’s an extremely simple tweak with no settings, but it makes editing on an iOS device so much more intuitive…

A mere swipe of the screen is all it takes to position your cursor exactly where it needs to be to make your necessary edits. Really, iOS should have had a feature like this since the very beginning. The fact that it’s still not here in iOS 5 is kind of baffling to me.

For jailbreakers, you can stop tearing out your hair now. SwipeShiftCaret is available for free on Cydia’s BigBoss repo.

Don’t you think this will save you a lot of time and frustration?

  • Couldn’t you just touch hold and move to where you want?

    • Anonymous

Yes, but it is not as practical as this option for some of us, myself included.

What do you mean it isn’t as practical for, as you put it, “some of us” … Who are these people you refer to and what makes them different from everybody else ?? holding and moving to the letter you want is hardly awkward or difficuilt so I don’t see what your issue is.

      • Sorry, AllAboutTheCore. You are incorrect. I have difficulty many times using that method. I find I skip where I want to be quite often. This is a handy tool for me.

      • Yes, sometimes it lands a letter off, I don’t know maybe some of us have sausage fingers or your just perfect at placing the curser on a little iPhone screen. Seems practical to me to give a quick swipe if your a spot or two off instead of remagnifing the area. Now can you see the issue?

      • Anonymous

It is especially a problem towards the edge of the screen when using some of the more protective cases. I guess if apple had spent a little more effort in designing durability into the phone this would not be such a problem

@ AllAboutTheCore- Take easy, we’re just sharing opinions here. The “who” are other individuals here that have expressed preference to this tweak, over holding and moving to the letter.

I’m sorry. Looks like we need some Anger Management around here.

    SwipeToMoveCursor?!

    • Doesn’t work in iOS5. When you swipe, it goes two characters instead of one.

      • airbreak

I’d think that’s a setting you can choose, 1 or 2. I haven’t used this, but that’s what’s the most likely outcome since jeff is on iOS5.

  • Wow. What great tweak concept. So intuitive and it looks like it works pretty well. Will definatly be copied by Apple in upcoming software updates.

  • Eric Morgan

Really?? iOS should have had it all along? But you’ve never mentioned it before. Asshole. A dev came up with it. Not every dev works at apple. There was no ios at all before apple. No android either. Asshole.

  • Eric Morgan

It’s baffling to you but you’ve never requested it or THOUGHT OF IT. Asshole.

How did Jeff get the idb logo on the status bar??

    • Zeppelin

      • Does anyone else have this problem with zeppelin, that after installing it the iPhone gets stuck while respringing and you have to force reboot ? This happened to both my ip4 and 4S … 🙁

      • No but I’m pretty sure the problem u have is relate to an other tweak, in which u changed something of the carrier name: maybe u change something with springtomize check on that or some other theming tweak 😉

      • Anonymous

Thanx.. Can u add different logos?

Works in Notes, Email, Safari, Facebook, Twitter…
But not working for me in Messages, which is where I’d use it the most.

    • Just noticed this glitch as well. It’s only the SMS app that it doesn’t work with. Hopefully there’ll be an update to fix this.

    • Anonymous

I concur. A swift update is definitely called for. Great tweak otherwise, thank you.

  • There was a tweak review that you did called “KBshortcuts” that does this and more. As opposed to swiping you just type “space+L” for next letter or “space+J” for previous letters. In my opinion KBshorcuts appears slightly more practical as it would probably wouldn’t conflict with other applications or tweaks that use swiping gestures… But hey, to each is their own, whatever works best.

    • Yeah, I forgot about KBShortcuts, I was using that for a long time. I’ll have to redownload that.

      • Kok Hean

OMG, you made the developer sad!

      • Sina

I use KBShortcuts everyday and It does everything I need in writing/editing and Clipboard access…

    • Yeah, I forgot about KBShortcuts, I was using that for a long time. I’ll have to redownload that.

  • Pretty nice tweak. It’s actually useful and it costs nothing. Highly recommended.

  • Sure could but sometimes it lands a letter or two off, then you can give it a quick swipe.

  • Great Tweak!!!

  • Love it! Thank you!!
Just needs the Messages Support 🙂

  • Messages support definitely needed! But quite good otherwise.

  • Doesn’t kbshortcuts do the same thing? And then som?

  • only for iOS5+?

  • The problem with customizing your device too much after jailbreaking inevitably leads to instability and/or sluggish performance. These ‘tweaks’ have not been fully tested with the iOS or other Cydia apps.
Imo only get what you really need…to me this is not necessary as natively holding and moving is fine….

    • But some Jailbreak tweaks makes it into iOS sometime, so new and great tweaks are better for both jailbreakers and non-jailbreakers

    • Anonymous

I disagree, “natively holding and moving” is not as practical as this option for some of us, myself included.

OT: I’ve been searching for Overflow on cydia the pass two days, no where to be found. Any suggestions, please.

    • they rename the tweak to Cascade search that name you should find it!

      • Anonymous

Oh, thanks a million , Buddy. You were correct, much appreciated. 😉

  • does not work on the Message.app, only on the Notes.app

  • How did you get the iDB logo on your status bar?

  • Anonymous

I have been waiting for this since the day I got my first use idevice. It is awesome. Had to use it just now on my iPhone to post this.lol

  • As soon as I installed it, got stuck on respring, not even sbsettings springing or stand alone respring, allowed me to spring, kept on a loop, found out that it was either this tweak or mirror widget. As once removed both, no issues.

  • You don’t need this tweak. It’s in iOS settings. First go to Settings.app, tap General, hit Keyboards, then you put your right hand in, and you put your right hand out, you shake it all about, you do the hockey pokey, and you turn yourself around, and that’s what is all about!!

  • Contacted the developer about this tweak not working in the messages app and he said he doesn’t know how to fix it. Something about specifications.

    • He said the same thing to me lmao.
This also does not work in mail something about the specifications lmao

      • Lol, does anybody know how to fix it, haha

  • Anonymous

It looks like a good tweet. I’ll wait for an update. When mail, messages, pages ect. Can use this tweak

Found a bug. Once installed, when trying to change a folder’s name, screen turns black for 1 second and recovers. So you can’t change the name of the folders.
