Take Healthbook for a virtual test drive on your iPhone

Apple is expected to unveil iOS 8 at its upcoming WWDC keynote in just one week. A number of new features and apps are expected to be announced, one of them being Healthbook. The health-focused app is said to provide users with vital information, such as heart rate, hydration, blood pressure, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, blood sugar, weight and more.

An increasing amount of speculation about Healthbook has inspired visual designer Jayaprasad Mohanan to create a live demo of the app that you can try right on your iPhone. The concept is entirely based on what we've heard from bloggers over the past four months, including leaked Healthbook screenshots posted by the well-connected Mark Gurman back in March. Check it out…

Apple updates WWDC app with 2014 conference schedule, confirms June 2 keynote

Apple's free WWDC app for iOS has been updated with relevant 2014 conference schedule and related content ahead of its upcoming developer-only event.

The 5-day Worldwide Developers Conference kicks off with a keynote on June 2 and will give us previews of iOS 8 code-named Okemo and OS X 10.10, code-named Syrah after a wine.

Version 2.0 of the WWDC app for the iPhone and iPad includes a brand new icon, a revamped design with an aesthetically pleasing orange theme and, more importantly, content support for the upcoming event. If you're not attending WWDC, the app is a nice way to follow the announcements as they happen, watch session videos uploaded throughout the week, browse floor plans and more...

Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre could see grand introductions as Apple executives at WWDC

Should Apple's rumored $3.2 billion deal to buy Beats Electronics, LCC come through, its most visible co-founders Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre could show up on the Moscone West stage to be introduced as Apple executives, as per Billboard. An annual pilgrimage for programmers, Apple's 5-day Worldwide Developers Conference, or WWDC, kicks off on June 2.

If history is an indication, Tim Cook will share the stage with other senior executives to tell us what's next for Apple's mobile and desktop operating systems. Given the amount of coverage WWDC typically enjoys, it would be the perfect venue to make such a high-profile announcement...

Don’t expect to see a new Apple TV or iWatch at WWDC

I don't think many folks were expecting Apple to unveil any exciting new hardware at WWDC this year. The company has rarely used the developer conference to unveil non-software related products, outside of maybe refreshed MacBooks and other Mac products.

But for those who were still holding out hope for a Jobs-like 'one more thing,' I have some bad news. According to a new report from Recode's John Paczkowski, the company has no intention of using WWDC to show off the long-rumored iWatch or revamped Apple TV...

Rumor: larger OS X 10.10 presence at WWDC as some iOS 8 features shift back to iOS 8.1

Reliable blogger Mark Gurman is stepping back from some of his earlier claims regarding rumored iOS 8 features like Healthbook and public transit in Maps.

Apparently, the blogger's sources have had a change of heart, now cautioning that some of the headline features planned for iOS 8.0 (code-named 'Okemo') could be moved to iOS 8.1.

As a result, Apple could place a larger emphasis on the next major release of its desktop operating system for Macs, code-named 'Syrah' after the wine.

It is speculated that the company's been allocating iOS user interface teams to OS X as Apple races to finalize a brand new OS X design in time for WWDC, which kicks off with a keynote on June 2...

Earlier today, Apple announced via a press release its annual developer conference will be held Monday, June 2 at San Francisco's Moscone West. Apple confirms WWDC 2014 kicking off June 2

Apple on Thursday confirmed via a press release that its annual summer pilgrimage for developers, Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), will be kicking off on Monday, June 2, at San Francisco’s Moscone West.

The five-day conference will focus on "the future of iOS and OS X,", indicating that Apple will give us a preview of iOS 8 and the next iteration of its desktop operating system for Macs, OS X.

There will be more than a hundred technical sessions and over a thousand Apple engineers will be available to registered developers to help them integrate new technologies and fine tune their apps.

Apple will also hold its traditional Apple Design Awards to showcase the best apps from the past year and of course hold the keynote on the first day to update us on latest business metrics and hopefully announce "exciting new products" CEO Tim Cook has been teasing for months now...

WWDC 2013 session videos surface on YouTube

Apple's registered developers who have downloaded an updated version of the official WWDC app have been able to stream this year's session videos the day they were made. Developers can alternatively access an archive of WWDC 2013 session videos through both the app and Apple's official portal for developers.

It looks like Apple has now published those clips on YouTube for everyone to watch, or so it seems. It was unclear at post time whether the iPhone maker actually operates a brand new account seemingly created for the purpose of hosting these NDA clips...

Apple posts video of WWDC keynote to YouTube

Apple finally posted this year's WWDC keynote to its YouTube channel tonight. The media event, which has been one of the most talked about in recent memory, saw Tim Cook and company show off updated Mac hardware, a new version of OS X, and the biggest update to their mobile platform since its inception with iOS 7.

Most people prefer YouTube over any other video delivery service because of its versatility. So if streaming the keynote through Apple’s website isn’t your thing, and you don't feel like watching it on your Apple TV, you'll be happy to hear you can now watch the presentation from virtually any desktop or mobile device via YouTube...

Let’s Talk Jailbreak 15: WWDC hangover

WWDC 2013 is officially finished, and we think it's safe to say that we're all a bit hungover from all of the news and activity. In this episode, we, of course, talk about iOS 7, but we also discuss some of the more prominent jailbreak tweaks from the last week. Releases like Auxo for iPad, Overview, and iOS 7 Control Toggle Icons take the floor in this latest back to basics episode.

WWDC 2013 keynote now available for download through iTunes

Shortly following its live-streamed WWDC keynote talk yesterday, Apple has posted a streamable replay to their home page.

I like to keep those keynotes handy for offline viewing, but saving a video stream to a computer is unfortunately a mess which involves too much trickery without guarantees for success.

Luckily, Apple has catered to the archivist in us by making the entire presentation available for download through iTunes...
