Whimsical colors for iPhone and iPad

As with any new iPhone launch involving a screen size change, new wallpapers are somewhat hard to find. In our effort to support your wallpaper creativity, the Wallpapers of the Week section is a promise to keep you looking fresh on a daily basis.

As there is no iOS 8 jailbreak in sight, changing your wallpaper is one of the ways to graphically change your device. I am anxiously awaiting the opportunity to more impressively change my UI, but in the meantime, the wallpaper rotation is as good as it gets.

October 16 event wallpapers: “it’s been way too long”

As with all Apple event invitations, we rush to provide you with a way to celebrate on your own device! Almost right on cue, we were able to receive wallpapers from our consistent iDB reader, Jason Zigrino. The imagery is extremely simple in this invitation, unlike some other more developed invites. The term "It's been way too long" will certainly keep some armchair analysts awake at night pondering over its hidden meaning.

We are fairly certain the event will contain new iPads and some second device, which leaves people guessing Apple TV, new MacBooks, iMacs, or maybe retina iMacs. Currently, the guessing game is available for anyone to play, as the invitation leaves everything open for interpretation.

Steve Jobs tribute wallpapers for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

Three years ago today, Steve Jobs passed just after seeing the iPhone 4s revealed the day prior. On Friday, Tim Cook sent an internal email to Apple employees encouraging them to keep Steve on their minds today, each in his or her own way. Regardless of your opinion about Apple products, it is clear Steve Jobs changed the way we interact on a daily basis, create content, and share our discoveries or creations.

Inside, we offer six wallpapers for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus that celebrate Steve. Additionally, we encourage you to share images, wallpapers, or items in the comment section that make you think of Steve. Or share an image that shows how you love your Apple device.

Sunset and clouds wallpapers for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

Continuing the push to provide iPhone 6 and 6 Plus wallpapers, the Wallpapers of the Week section is switching to larger resolutions ensuring everyone with a new device can enjoy customizing their experience. If you are new to the section or missed the past few weeks, I encourage you to go back through the archive.

To highlight iPhone 6 versions, last week we posted Apple logo wallpapers in silver, gold, and space gray. On September 14, there was an initial pack of iPhone 6 images posted, even before the iPhone 6 launched. Step inside for a set of photographs, perfect for larger iPhone 6 screens.

Apple logo wallpapers for iPhone 6

With new phone upgrades and additional screen sizes comes the struggle to find newly created wallpapers to grace our screens. While the iPhone 6 Plus is 1080 x 1920, standard HD resolution, the parallax effect will add additional pixels to any true iPhone 6/Plus wallpaper image.

My goal with the Wallpapers of the Week section is to bring iOS wallpapers to you on a weekly basis. More importantly, when new devices are launched, we try to have wallpapers at-the-ready. This week is our first posting since the iPhone 6 launched on Friday. With this post, you will find parallax-ready images for iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6, and we still included the iPhone 5s.

iPhone 6 wallpaper packs

With the excitement of a new iPhone, comes the need for individuals to customize their newest devices. Late last week, we were able to get our hands on the official iOS 8 wallpapers thanks to a few tricks from dedicated iDB readers. The official wallpaper images quickly became one of the most visited wallpaper post in site history. If you missed them, jump over to the download gallery and pick them up for iPhone or iPad, even before iOS 8 launches on September 17.

The Wallpapers of the Week section is dedicated to bringing stellar images to you on a weekly basis. Every Sunday, we release a new set of wallpapers, primarily for iPhone, but also for iPad and desktop. When new iPhones launch, there is always a scramble to find quality images to make a single iPhone stand out amongst the crowd of others. Step inside for your newest downloads.

Download the new iOS 8 wallpapers

Along with the iPhone 6 and Apple Watch announcements, the GM version of iOS 8 was released to developers. As is typical with all major iterations of Apple's mobile operating system, there were new wallpapers released. The GM release is currently only available for registered developers, which means the common users are left waiting for iOS 8 to launch publicly before taking advantage of the images.

Thankfully, we have a connection with @JasonZigrino, who is the graphic artist responsible for publishing these iOS 8 wallpapers for us. Additionally, @BenjaminTourin helped with the technical aspect of snagging these files out of the iOS 8 GM and also launched them on his personal blog.

Down below, we have the full pack of iOS 8 wallpapers for iPhone and iPad for you to download.

Beach wallpapers

Summer is coming to a close and with it our trips to the beach. An upcoming Apple media event always seems the marked end of summer. For people in the business of covering Apple products, annual cycles are built around the media event launch season. To celebrate summer's end, there are four beach oriented wallpapers enclosed. If heading to the beach is no longer an option, at least enjoy the beauty of nature's largest body of water from your phone.

From orange sunsets to the blue water, beach wallpapers have staggering color difference and clarity, if the photo is taken correctly. We have selected four great wallpapers. Enjoy the serenity.

Universe galaxy creation wallpapers for iPhone

As the section is titled Wallpapers of the Week, it stands to reason we pick the best images we can find around the net on any given week. Today, there is a great selection of nebula and galaxy wallpapers, but I would not call them the most popular over the past seven days.

Going back a few days, Apple announced the September 9 event for iPhone, and possibly a wearable device. The event, which is always a hyped occurrence, is gaining more excitement by hosting media at the Flint Center and building a whole separate structure to house something. All of this to say, if you missed the Apple announcement wallpapers earlier this week, make sure to check out the handy work of some great iDB readers.

Alternatively, don't miss the great colorful wallpapers in today's post.

September 9 invites wallpapers: “wish we could say more”

Today, Apple sent out invitations to an event hosted on September 9, 2014 at 10:00AM PST. Per usual, there is a rush in the community to determine what Apple has hidden inside the graphic. The "Wish we could say more" line has lead many to speculate about enhanced Siri optimization or the ability to action iPhone through voice commands on a wearable device. Just yesterday, Re/code claimed the highly anticipated Apple wearable, dubbed "iWatch," should launch alongside the iPhone 6 at the upcoming event.

As with many recent Apple announcements, designers quickly put their skills to work, publishing wallpapers inspired by the invitation. Inside are a few wallpapers, for your favorite upcoming Apple event.

Lion wallpapers for iPhone and iPad

We are back with another edition of Wallpapers of the Week. Last week, we featured a grouping of wallpapers termed "stars and moons," to much excitement. However, there were several comments about not receiving the posted wallpapers in iPad format. The Wallpapers of the Week section is designed for iOS device wallpaper downloads, but that doesn't guarantee any certain size submission. With the intent to make a conscious effort to please those readers looking for iPad wallpapers, this week I chose a set of wallpapers with iPad specific sizes.

Taking the subject back to nature, the walls herein are of the jungle's king. With no intent on striking a resemblance between Apple's operating system and the subject matter, simply, lions are a very striking and photogenic creature. The lion's majesty is caught in these images and shared for all your iOS devices.

Download the new OS X Yosemite wallpapers for Mac, iPhone, and iPad

With today's release of OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 6, Apple has included several new wallpapers in the latest beta version of its desktop operating system. Focusing on the beauty of Yosemite National Park – OS X 10.10's namesake – these wallpapers are truly stunning, and owners of Retina displays and 4k monitors are sure to particularly love them.

For those running OS X Mavericks or an older version of Yosemite, we've uploaded these full resolution wallpapers, along with Yosemite's original wallpaper, for your downloading pleasure, compliments of Matthew Miller. There are also links to iPhone and iPad versions of the four new wallpapers, which have been optimized by Jason Zigrino and published on his DeviantArt page...
