Apple starts promoting News stories on Twitter

I discover my news (mostly) on Twitter and I think many other technophiles do just that. Acknowledging as much, Apple has started promoting stories published on the Apple News platform on Twitter, via its @AppleNews handle that started tweeting out curated stories earlier today.

“Follow us here for top stories and great reads from your favorite publishers, curated by our U.S. editors,” reads their first tweet. That account is now officially verified by Twitter.

Another curated tweet links to a Wired story which explains how reporters from around the world secretly collaborated to unveil the complex web behind the Panama Papers, the biggest leak in whistleblower history.

Twitter will live-stream Thursday Night Football broadcasts worldwide in the next season

Twitter has managed to sign an important deal with the National Football League giving it rights to exclusively live-stream as many as ten Thursday Night Football broadcasts worldwide in the next season, the companies said today.

According to Variety, Twitter will carry the games broadcast by NBC and CBS, to be simulcast on the NFL Network, too.

Free live-streams will leverage Twitter-owned Periscope.

In addition to the live games, Twitter will also stream in-game highlights from TNF and pre-game live broadcasts from players and teams before, during and after games.

The tweak comes with a unique interface for sharing information across your favorite social mediums, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Messages, and it includes options that you can configure to your liking so the tweak looks and behaves how you want it to.

Why making a support account on Twitter was a great move by Apple

Within just a single day of launching a support account on Twitter, Apple has well over 130,000 followers and is answering over 100 people with questions about Apple products and services per hour.

Although it's taken Apple quite a while to finally use Twitter as a support medium for its main products, depsite having Twitter accounts for Apple Music, Beats 1, and iTunes for quite some time, it's still great to see Apple is using another method of communication to reach its users.

Earlier in the week, the micro-blogging startup announced it's integrating a dedicated GIF search button in its mobile apps and on twitter.com to help you add that viral kitten GIF to your posts without leaving the compose window.

Twitter's partnered with Giphy and Riffsy to help you find the right GIF animation to express your mood. You can search GIFs by keyword, or browse categories of different reactions like Happy Dance, Mic Drop, YOLO and more.

How to enable ‘Show me the best tweets first’ on Twitter

Twitter rolls out a new timeline feature

The pressure mounts on Twitter to re-ignite growth, which has virtually come to a halt as average users increasingly find the service too confusing and difficult to use. Today, the micro-blogging service unveiled yet another refinement designed to adjust how the timeline surfaces interesting content.

Similar to the “While you were away” timeline feature which released a year ago, Twitter will now put recommended, not the newest, tweets at the top of your timeline so that you never miss important updates from people you follow.

Latest El Capitan beta has fixed Safari’s mishandling of shortened Twitter “t.co” links

An annoying issue pertaining to broken Twitter links, which has persisted in Safari for Mac since November 2015, has been fixed in the third beta of the forthcoming OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan software update, according to user reports on the Apple Support Communities forums.

The “Safari can’t open the page because the server where this page is located is not responding” error page no longer appears when clicking shortened “t.co” Twitter links with the secure HTTPS protocol in Safari and third-party apps like Tweetbot.
