List of iOS 6 compatible jailbreak tweaks

Though iOS 6 hasn't been officially jailbroken yet, there is a developer hack available for users on older A4 devices. It's tethered, and requires you to manually install Cydia, so it's not something we really recommend. But it exists.

And because it exists, we decided to try and find out which of our favorite tweaks have been updated to support the new software. Luckily, we came across this list of iOS 6-ready tweaks by theme designer Adam Insull...

iPhone 5 jailbroken

It looks like Grant Paul, aka Chpwn, is in possession of a jailbroken iPhone 5.

We can't really say much more, other than the fact that he posted a screenshot of Cydia running on the iPhone 5 a few moments ago. More details of the exciting news inside...

‘Xpandr 2’ makes Keyboard Shortcuts faster

If you're a blogger, then you'd be crazy not to use TextExpander. TextExpander is an app that runs on the Mac, that automatically expands shortcuts into larger lines of text.

For example, I have a shortcut named jb, which expands fully to the word jailbreak. It works with phrases to, for instance, jbt = jailbreak tweak. Needless to say, TextExpander is a life saver for those of us who have to type the same words and phrases over and over again, day in, and day out.

Apple introduced a sort of "TextExpander light" in iOS 5, and it came in the form of Keyboard Shortcuts. Keyboard shortcuts work, but unlike TextExpander, they don't immediately expand; instead, the shortcuts appear as suggestions, and then you have to use the space bar to fully expand them.

Xpandr 2, is the jailbreak tweak that seeks to put an end to this issue. Check out our full video walkthrough inside...

How to jailbreak iOS 6 and install Cydia

iOS 6 was just released a while ago, and now we're going to show you how to jailbreak it.

First of all, please note that this is a tethered jailbreak, and it only works with A4 devices like the iPhone 4.

Secondly, since there currently isn't any jailbreak tool that will install Cydia just yet, we're going to have to go about installing Cydia using a manual process.

Still game after all of those asterisks? Then come inside, as we show you how to jailbreak iOS 6 final...

The iPhone Dev Team introduces new RE-Restore functionality into RedSn0w

Hot on the heels of the iOS 6 official release, the iPhone Dev Team, headline by its most prominent member, MuscleNerd, is making moves as well.

Today they introduce new RE-Restore functionality that will allow users on iOS 5.1.1 to restore their devices to a fresh install iOS 5.1.1. This can come in handy if you ever need a fresh install for whatever reason, i.e. a bad jailbreak install, etc.

For those eligible to use the RE-restore, this means that you never have to worry about losing your 5.1.1 jailbreak, as long as you don't go near iOS 6. Check inside for the details...

An iOS 6 review from a jailbreaker’s perspective

I know everyone may not agree with this, but I think iOS 6 is worth ditching a jailbreak for, at least temporarily until a jailbreak surfaces. People that say you can get all of iOS 6's features with a jailbroken version of iOS 5 are kidding themselves.

iOS 6 is an interesting piece of work, and it's available now. The biggest story about iOS 6 is Apple’s banishing Google from nearly all facets of the OS. Nowhere is this more apparent than with the new Maps app — arguably the biggest feature of iOS 6.

Some claim that Google’s demotion within the Apple ecosystem is actually a step back for iOS, but I say otherwise. After months of usage, it’s clear that iOS users are much better off with an Apple designed Maps app. The Flyover (3D maps) option contained within iOS 6 shows promise, but without a doubt the inclusion of turn-by-turn navigation is my most used feature. Combined with Siri voice commands, it works gloriously...

TinyUmbrella updated to support iOS 6

It seems like it's been forever since we've seen a TinyUmbrella update. The SHSH blob-saver has been noticeably absent throughout the summer as Apple has released multiple iOS 6 betas.

But notcom, the utility's creator, broke the silence this week, announcing that TU has finally been updated to support the new software. It now works with iOS 6 and the latest Apple TV firmware...

Is iOS 6 a dud for jailbreakers?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and for that reason, let me preface this post with a disclaimer: I'm not bashing anyone's right to an opinion. That's one of the things that makes life so great, differing points of view on all sorts of matters.

Apparently, whoever posted this post on the Big Boss blog isn't too high on iOS 6, in fact, they go as far as to label it a "dud."

I certainly don't feel that way; I'm the complete opposite. That made me think, do most jailbreakers feel this way about iOS 6? Are many of you guys and gals planning on staying right where you are on iOS 5 until a jailbreak is released for iOS 6?

If you are a long-time iDB reader, you'll likely recognize the name Charlie Miller. The iOS hacker has broken through the security of everything from the iPhone to the App Store.

Well it looks like Miller's iOS hacking days are over, at least for now. The systems expert announced on Friday that he will be joining Twitter's security team, starting next week...

How to jailbreak iOS 6 GM with RedSn0w

iOS 6 GM was released yesterday, and it was shortly followed up by a release of the RedSn0w 0.9.13dev4 jailbreak tool.

Again, as with all RedSn0w releases for the iOS 6 beta, this tethered jailbreak will not install Cydia, but instead provides SSH access for developers.

RedSn0w updated with support for iOS 6 GM

Apple seeded the final beta of its new mobile operating system to developers yesterday, iOS 6 GM. The update included a new Panorama mode for the iPhone 4S, and the standard bug fixes.

And like clockwork, the Dev Team has posted a new version of RedSn0w to support the release. So for all of you folks out there with A4 devices running iOS 6 GM, you can now jailbreak...
