Poll: will you upgrade to iOS 10 or keep your jailbreak?

Apple announced iOS 10 yesterday at the company's WWDC 2016 Keynote and awed the audience with some pretty neat new features.

10 iOS 10 features that appear to be derived from the jailbreak community

Every year, Apple updates their lineup of iOS devices with a major new firmware version. This year at WWDC 2016, Apple announced iOS 10, and it not only includes an array of new features for users to take advantage of, but it also comes with some subtle UI changes that will be easy to spot in day-to-day use as well.

Of course, when Apple adds new features to iOS, sometimes those features aren't 100% original. Sometimes, they've existed in the jailbreak community for a long time in one form or another.

In this roundup, we'll go over 10 features in iOS 10 that appear to be derived from jailbreak tweaks and have already existed for those who have been pwning their devices to get around what Apple doesn't want you to have.

Hacker demos Flying JB, an iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak of little interest

Chinese hacker Min Zheng has showed a demo of Flying JB earlier today, a jailbreak for 32-bit devices running iOS 9.2.1 or lower. The video demo shows off an iPhone 5c going through the jailbreak process as well as Mobile Terminal running on the device once jailbroken.

What may sound like exciting news at first is actually nothing to call home about as the limitations and actual usage potential of Flying JB are extremely limited.

VolumePercentage shows the numeric volume level in your iPhone’s volume HUD

On any normal day, your iPhone or iPad's volume HUD shows an icon in the middle, along with little rectangles at the bottom of the indicator that illustrate how high your volume level is.

But if you want something a little more informative, then a new free jailbreak tweak called VolumePercentage will give you an even better idea of what your volume level is by showing you an actual volume percentage in the volume HUD.

CoySIM lets jailbreakers get rid of annoying No SIM alerts on iPhone

If you have more than one iPhone sitting around because one is your older handset and the other is your daily driver, then chances are your older iPhone no longer has service and may or may not still have its SIM card inside of it.

CoySIM is a new free jailbreak tweak that makes it so your iPhone won't constantly pester you with alerts and Status Bar indicators all because you don't have a SIM card installed in it.

We'll show you how the tweak works in this review.

George Hotz’s $1,000 kit will transform your car into a self-driving one

George Hotz aka “GeoHot” is one of the pioneers of the early jailbreak scene. In December 2015, Bloomberg Businessweek ran a lengthy profile focused on Hotz's new project: a self-driving car kit. He's since secured funding for the project, Forbes reported, and now the kit that promises to transform your car into a self-driving vehicle for just $1,000 seems to be becoming a reality, as The Verge reports.

SemiRestore is now (sort of) available for Mac OS X

Three days after the release of SemiRestore for Windows and Linux, the tool is also now supporting Mac OS X. Well, sort of, as the developer notes in the ReadMe file that "SemiRestore for OS X is provided on a 'works for me' basis." So our initial warning about using this tool still applies here, as you might do this at your own risks.
