VibLert: Make Your iPhone Vibrate for All Alerts

When you put your iPhone on silent, there are certain notifications that can go unnoticed if your iPhone is in your pocket or purse. Sure, your iPhone will vibrate for missed calls and messages, but that's about the extent of the option.

As part of the ongoing TweakWeek daily challenge, jailbreak developer Dan Zimmerman has released a utility to remedy this problem. VibLert enables the vibrating notification option for all applications...

MissedReminder: iOS 5-Style LED Flash Alerts for Missed Calls

Have you ever noticed on a BlackBerry that when there is a missed call or text, a tiny LED flashes to alert the user? That's certainly one feature I wish Apple would implement in future smartphone designs, as a missed call can go unnoticed for hours on the iPhone if it's not in use.

Apple halfway makes up for the missing feature in iOS 5 with the addition of LED Flash Alerts. The new option triggers the iPhone 4's camera flash to alert users of missed calls or text messages. For folks that can't wait until the fall to take advantage of the Flash Alert feature, here's MissedReminder...

‘Orbit’ Exposé for iPhone Updated to Support iOS 4

It's been a long, long time... but change has finally come, and Orbit has been updated to support iOS 4.

Orbit, as you can probably recall, is the jailbreak app that allows you to initiate an iPhone Exposé mode using an Activator action.

It has been sitting in limbo for over a year waiting for iOS 4 support, and that support finally came a few weeks ago when 'Orbit for iOS 4' appeared out of nowhere on the Cydia store.

With its recent resurgence, we figured now would be as good of a time as ever to recap why this app is worth checking out...

Add Text to Your iPhone’s Lock Screen With ‘Custom Lock’

It looks like Tyler Nettleton saved one of his best jailbreak tweaks for last. His swan song, Custom Lock, allows iPhone jailbreakers to add their own custom message to their lock screen.

Custom Lock is the seventh and final entry for this round of TweakWeek and it allows you to use your iPhone's lock screen as a virtual billboard.

A quick venture into your iPhone's Settings app reveals a settings panel for Custom Lock that lets you add clock replacing text along with subtitle text.

Want to see what the results look like? Check inside for a brief video demo of Custom Lock in action...

Censor Your SMS Messages With ‘SMS Censor’

SMS Censor is a new jailbreak tweak that allows you to censor certain words when using your iPhone's default Messages app.

Its purpose is to prevent messages from being sent altogether if it detects a censored string residing in the body of your text message.

I'm not exactly sure who would want to use this, or how it would be used, but I'd imagine it would be a scenario where a parent is censoring or monitoring their child's text messaging habits.

Unfortunately, if the child is smart enough to jailbreak the device in the first place, they're definitely smart enough to find one of the many ways to work around a restriction such as this...

‘TrickSlide’ Eliminates Your Slide to Unlock Nub in Favor of a Cleaner Look

TrickSlide is yet another entry into the TweakWeek series of iPhone jailbreak tweaks. Although the name may sound cunning and cutting edge, at the end of the day, this is nothing more than a glorified WinterBoard theme, without actually having to use WinterBoard.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but this same functionality can, and has been easily accomplished in the past by use of clever WinterBoard theming.

All that TrickSlide aims to do is to hide your "Slide to Unlock" nub on your iPhone's lock screen; nothing more, nothing less...

QuickComposer Widget for iOS 5 Notification Center

Apple's new firmware won't be officially available for another few months, but that hasn't stopped the jailbreak community from experimenting with the beta release. We've seen several iOS 5 Notification Center widgets over the last few weeks, but there's always room for more.

The latest jailbreak tweak to surface for the new iOS is called QuickComposer. The widget allows you to access the composition screen of different applications with a single tap...

How to Fix Recording Errors in Display Recorder

Display Recorder is a wonderful jailbreak app by Ryan Petrich for creating a video recording of your iPhone's screen. Some users, however, have been having problems creating new recordings and have seen Error Code 0 or 2. As far as I can tell, the issue is related to the way that Display Recorder stores files in the file system to circumvent ASLR obstacles and the permissions that iTunes applies to them during backup restores.

It seems that the only users affected by these errors are those who recently restored from an iTunes backup or upgraded/downgraded their firmware. Luckily, the fix is pretty simple and can be done in under ten minutes...

‘ASB’ Jailbreak Tweak Keeps the Battery on Your iPhone’s Lock Screen at All Times

ASB or Always Show Battery, is a jailbreak tweak that aims at targeting a specific demographic of jailbreakers.

You know who you are; you're the same ones who ask me how each and every tweak that we review impacts battery life.

It never fails; no matter how small or insignificant the tweak is, I always have at least one person ask me how it impacts the lifespan of their battery.

This post is dedicated to you, battery watchmen. ASB is a jailbreak tweak made specifically with you in mind...

‘6Switcher’ Tries to Cram Six App Icons into Your iPhone’s App Switcher

Tweaks like Five Icon Switcher have been out ever since Apple released iOS 4, but apparently there's still a demand, or at least a perceived demand for tweaks of this sort.

There are many other tweaks that allow you to do something similar, cramming more app icons into a space that was meant to be limited.

Although 6Switcher -- a tweak that stuffs six app icons into your multitasking bar, might add more function to your device -- what it takes away can't be justified in my opinion.

Honestly, I'd rather deal with a few extra swipes than ruin my iPhone's aesthetic appeal, wouldn't you?

DropCall Eliminator Routes Phone Calls to EDGE Network to Improve Call Quality

While most of its bad publicity has faded into the background, dropped calls are still an issue for AT&T customers (and all carriers) in certain areas. To remedy this problem, many AT&T customers have been directed to switch to the EDGE network when making phone calls.

Apparently, many dropped calls from AT&T iPhone handsets are caused by a 3G data conflict. The iPhone doesn't seem to experience that issue on EDGE networks. But wouldn't it be cumbersome to switch back and forth between EDGE and 3G all the time? Yes. But that's why we jailbreak. Meet DropCall Eliminator...

Wi-Fi Booster Removes Signal Limitation in Settings App

Have you ever noticed that the iPhone doesn't seem to pick up all of the available Wi-Fi hotspots? That's because it doesn't. As another testament to Apple's focus on user experience, iOS doesn't display Wi-Fi hotspots with sub-par signal strength.

While this prevents the user from having a negative web experience, it also handicaps the device when searching for a web connection. How do you make your iPhone show all of the available Wi-Fi networks? There's a jailbreak tweak for that...
