Give your old device the look and feel of iOS 7 with Whited00r 7

Although Apple is one of the best handset-makers around when it comes to supporting older devices, it does have a cutoff point. And for iOS 7, that cutoff point was the iPhone 4, meaning you can not install the new firmware on devices older than that.

But never fear! If you happen to be running an older device, you can still get the look and feel of iOS 7 thanks to Whited00r 7. The modded firmware includes an iOS 7-style UI with card multitasking, Control Center, push notifications, and much more...

List of iOS 7 compatible jailbreak tweaks

Ok, now that you've jailbroken your iOS device running iOS 7 with evasi0n7, what do you do? Which tweaks work and which ones don't? This is one of the most frequently asked questions we've received this morning, so we figured we'd better start making a list.

Most tweaks that rely on Mobile Substrate aren't working, as it's currently broken, but there are a few that seem to be ok. Below you'll find all of the iOS 7 compatible jailbreak tweaks that we're aware of, broken down into those working, and those 'sort of' working...

Problems with evasi0n7? Here’s what to do

Evad3rs release untethered iOS 7 jailbreak

In a move that I think caught all of us way off-guard, the evad3rs have just released an untethered jailbreak for iOS 7. The team is calling the hack evasi0n7, and it's compatible with all iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and iPad mini models running iOS 7.0 through 7.0.4.

Folks with devices jailbroken on iOS 6.1.x are now free to update to iOS 7 without losing their JB. But if you just absolutely can't stand the new operating system, it sounds like a jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3/4/5 will be released in the near future. More details after the fold...

iH8sn0w and winocm show off iOS 6.1.x jailbreak

Hackers winocm and iH8sn0w posted an interesting video last night, demonstrating what appeared to be a working untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1.x. The clip shows a 5th gen iPod touch on iOS 6.1.3 navigating Cydia and running Surenix's popular ayecon theme.

The move puts an end to the radio silence we've been experiencing since early October, when winocm gave a definite ETA for the iOS 6.1.x jailbreak as 'before 2014.' But don't get your hopes up. It still doesn't look like it's going to be released publicly anytime soon...

There will be one billion iOS devices in use by end of 2018

Much fuss has been made in the tech press over the most recent market share data by IDC and Gartner showing Google's Android growing unabated and commanding a whopping 80 percent of smartphones, though some caution that these estimates are flawed because they include cheap no-name Android handsets as well as Android-based HDMI dongles and other non-smartphone devices from China.

Google said back in July that Android activations surpassed one billion devices. The bigger question is, when will there be one billion iOS devices in use?

Logitech launches ‘PowerShell’ iOS 7 game controller for $99

The game pad features console-style controls, with a d-pad, an X-Y-B-A button cluster, and two shoulder triggers. It also features an integrated 1500mAh battery, which will keep your iOS device running long after it runs out of juice...

BBM updated with compatibility for Wi-Fi-only iPad and iPod touch devices

Following numerous delays, BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) finally arrived last month as a free download on iOS and Android as the Canadian smartphone maker's survival remains uncertain. The app saw five million downloads in the first eight hours of availability, emerged as the No. 1 on the iTunes download charts and brought a cool 20 million new users to the BBM platform within a week. BlackBerry tweeted today that the iPhone-only release would get updated later today to support Wi-Fi-only iPhone touch and iPad devices.

The new version is live now, but there's a catch...

iPhone 5s/5c already comprise 5.5% of all active iPhones globally

When the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c were released in September, their first weekend of availability sparked a record nine million units sold. Now comes word Apple's two newest smartphones together represent 5.5 percent of active iPhones worldwide.

And despite Apple's attempts to repackage last year's iPhone 5 as this year's iPhone 5c, new research shows the year-old Apple handsets accounts for one out of every four new iPhone activations...
