Facebook removing option to be unsearchable by name

Just a heads up for those that missed the news yesterday: Facebook is going to be removing the 'Who can look up your Timeline by name' privacy option that allowed you to make it so your profile could not be found via search.

The social network actually removed the option for those who weren't using it last December. But for the small percentage still using it, it has announced that they will receive reminders about its removal in the coming weeks...

Popular game engine Unity updated with iOS 7 controller support

Good news on the iOS gaming front this weekend. Unity, the game engine behind a number of high-profile titles like Call of Duty: Strike Team, The Room and Bad Piggies, was updated to version 4.2.2 yesterday with a number of improvements.

But there's one particular item in the change log that caught our eye: iOS 7 game controller support. This means that, depending on the speed of each developer, it may not be long before you're joystickin' your way through your favorite iOS game...

AT&T to stop offering traditional per-device plans to new customers

AT&T announced this afternoon that it will be 'streamlining' the plans that it offers to its new customers later this month. That's essentially corporate jargon for 'getting rid of,' and in this case it refers to per-device data plans.

Starting October 25, the carrier will no longer offer traditional monthly voice and data plans to new customers. Instead they will have to choose from one of the newer mobile share plans, which come with various levels of data...

Apple updates iPhone 5s shipping estimates to 2-3 weeks

Shortly after the new iPhone 5s/5c went on sale in the United States and an additional ten major international markets on September 20, Apple's online store in the United States started showing signs of severely constrained supply of the flagship iPhone 5s model.

The device immediately appeared sold out as shipping estimates dropped from 1-3 days for the first few hours of availability, further slipping to 7–10 days and again to an ambiguous 'October' estimate. And now, the iPhone 5s shipping dates have been revised again, now listed as 2-3 weeks..

Every week, iDB brings you a handful of our favorite device backgrounds in our 'Wallpapers of the week' series. Now, typically these images consist of solid-color graphics, textures, or gradients—a popular post-iOS 7 brush.

But for those looking for something a little more edgy than all of that, you might be interested in these new wallpapers from iFixit. These hi-res images show the guts of your iPhone 5s or 5c, giving you a sort of see-through effect...

Analyst believes iWatch will be much more than an iPhone companion

Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Brian White issued an interesting research note late yesterday, offering up insight on Apple's future product plans. White claims that after meeting with a component supplier, he has a much better idea of what to expect out of Cupertino.

On the iPhone front, the analyst echoes his colleagues, saying that he is 'very confident' that 2014 will be the year of the larger iPhone—and for what it's worth, he's saying 5-inches. But his most interesting comments are in regards to the oft-rumored iWatch project...

That's right, alongside a 1.3 update that adds asynchronous multiplayer, full Game Center support and other new features, the popular strategy-action game has been discounted down from $19.99 to $9.99...

Apple reportedly cutting iPhone 5c production in half

When Apple announced that the pricing for the plastic iPhone 5c would only come in $100 less than its flagship 5s, the entire tech world let out a harmonious gasp. The handset, which we had all known about for months prior, was supposed to retail in the $300 range.

A lot of folks predicted that the higher pricing would lead to the device's downfall. And it may have. Apple didn't announce any sales numbers after the 5c's opening weekend, and today, a new report is out claiming that the company is cutting production in half...

Best Buy to offer $100 for old phones towards purchase of iPhone 5s, 5c

It appears that Best Buy is on the verge of launching another smartphone trade-in promotion next week. According to a new report, the retailer will begin offering a minimum of $100 for select older, working handsets.

The catch here is that this trade-in money must be used to purchase a new iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c at the subsidized price—meaning you'll have to sign a new two-year agreement with one of Best Buy's carrier partners...

Apple’s iPhone trade-in program reportedly headed to the UK

Following rumors and speculation, Apple officially launched its iPhone trade-in program on August 30. Available in all US Apple Stores, customers can use the program to turn their old iPhones into cash—up to $280.

At the moment, Apple is only accepting trade-ins in the United States, but that could be changing soon. According to a new report, the company has plans to launch the program in the UK within the next few months...

Foursquare has issued a fairly significant update to its iOS client today, bringing the app to version 6.4. The update includes a number of improvements, including new UI and an all-new 'Nearby' button.

But easily the biggest addition to Foursquare 6.4 is the new Real-time recommendations feature. With it enabled, the app will send you useful location-based information, like current specials at a restaurant...
