Random strangers react to iPhone 6 dummy

You've seen kids react to such ancient technology as the Apple II, but how about your average Joe's reaction after being shown a mockup of a piece of future technology? That's exactly what led the guys over at UrAvgConsumer to take to the streets of New York City and ask normals to share their impressions on a dummy unit of the rumored 4.7-inch iPhone 6.

Reactions vary from 'beautiful, I like it' to a complete disbelief. The video is right after the break so give it a watch and meet us in comments...

German carrier leaks likely iPhone 6 release date: September 19

German wireless carrier Deutsche Telekom has apparently instructed its call center representatives to nudge wavering customers toward staying with them.

Support staff was reportedly told to drop hints that customers' loyalty could be well rewarded as the company gets to carry the anticipated iPhone 6 in mid-September - more specifically, on September 19.

That's the gist of a new report by Apfelpage.de. The date is likely more than an educated guesstimate.

Remember, Deutsche Telekom is one of the largest carriers in the world and they own T-Mobile. That being said, we're filing this away into our mental drawer under the 'Very Likely' category...

Noted analyst says Apple bringing Touch ID to 2014 iPhone and iPad models

Back in April, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo gave us a roadmap of all the products Apple has in the pipeline for 2014 and now he's back with an analysis of Apple's plans for the Touch ID sensor.

His conjecture is that every new iPhone and iPad model shipping in 2014 will be outfitted with an improved Touch ID fingerprint reader.

Kuo has become one of the most reputable Apple analyst analysts out there who churns out some of the most reliable predictions about Apple's future product plans so it's worth paying attention to what he has to say...

Supposed iPhone 6 backlight panel surfaces

To this date, we've seen a number of supposed dummy units, purported front and back panels, cases, batteries, manufacturing molds, technical drawings, volume buttons and numerous other alleged iPhone 6 parts.

Today, we show you another interesting leak. Coming straight via a post on Weibo (China's version of Twitter), it's a supposed screen backlight part. The part measures 4.7-inches diagonally and for the most part resembles its iPhone 5s/5c counterpart...

Morgan Stanley also believes the iPhone 6 will feature NFC tech

It seems like every time Apple is about to release a new smartphone, NFC rumors pop up. I'm not sure if some folks just really want the technology to succeed, or think the iPhone needs it to be compatible with various products and services, but the talk has seriously become an annual thing.

And this year is no different. Back in March, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo noted that his supply chain checks signaled that Apple was building NFC chips for its iPhone 6, and earlier this month, Brightwire echo'ed the claim. Today, Morgan Stanley adds its weight to the claim in an investors note...

Poll: which iPhone 6 size would be right for you?

The rumor mill has settled on two display sizes for Apple's upcoming iPhone models, a 4.7-inch one and a massive phablet-class screen measuring 5.5 inches diagonally (for reference, the iPad mini is 7.9 inches).

I'm dying to find out which model would be more popular with you guys so I put together this nice little non-scientific poll to gauge your form factor preference. This, of course, is assuming that screen size is the only hardware difference between the handsets, just like the iPad Air and the Retina iPad mini.

Don't be shy, jump past the fold and cast your vote now...

Apple adds Innolux as third iPhone 6 screen supplier, Samsung and Sharp lose orders

Although Samsung of South Korea should build Apple's in-house designed A8 processor for the next iPhone and has remained the top iPad display supplier, it looks like the conglomerate won't make it on the list of suppliers providing 4.7-inch display panels for the iPhone 6.

A new report by Taiwanese media alleges that Apple dropped both Samsung as Sharp as iPhone 6 display suppliers, instead adding Innolux as a third supplier of iPhone 6 screens..

Canalys: 34% of smartphones sold last quarter had displays larger than 5-inches

This fall, Apple is rumored to unveil not one, but two new iPhones: one with a 4.7-inch display, and a larger 5.5-inch model. The move doesn't really echo the company's previous handset strategy, but it's not hard to see why it would make sense.

When it comes to smartphone displays, big is in. According to a new report from Canalys, sales of smartphones with displays 5-inches or larger grew 369% last quarter, and they accounted for more than 1/3 of all smartphones sold worldwide...

Size comparison: 3D printed 5.5-inch iPhone 6 mockup vs iPhone 5s

Another day, another iPhone 6 dummy. Based on purportedly leaked design drawings published last month, enthusiast Hidenori Satou has used a MakerBot Replicator 2 3D Printer to produce a mockup of Apple's upcoming 5.5-inch handset. The dummy unit is rather crude and as such is used to highlight the size difference between the current four-inch iPhone 5 and the upcoming 5.5-incher...

iPhone 6 resolution pegged at 1,704-by-960 pixels

Virtually all of the rumors pertaining to Apple's next iPhone center on its ultra-thin design and two screen sizes: 4.7 and 5.5 inches. But up until now, we were kept in the dark as to what screen resolution the larger 5.5-incher might have.

According to a new report by an informed blogger, the iPhone 6 will have a screen resolution of 1,704-by-960 pixels, a marked improvement over the current 1,136-by-640 pixels on the iPhone 5/5s/5c...

More evidence of Fall iPhone 6 launch as Apple blocks off employee vacations in September

With all the rumors seemingly pointing to Apple sticking to its Fall release schedule for iPhones, established with the October 2011 introduction of the iPhone 4s, today the company again hinted at an upcoming iPhone 6 release by blocking off employee vacations for September 15–28 at its German outlets.

September is Apple's usual iPhone launch window (new iPads typically come a month later).

What's different this time around is Apple blocking employee vacation dates four months in advance versus a few weeks ahead of a major new product introduction, like before...

Alleged case for 5.5-inch iPhone 6 surfaces

Given everything we've seen thus far, it seems likely that the iPhone 6 is going to come in two flavors: a 4.7-inch model and a 5.5-inch model. Most of the alleged leaked cases and renders that have surfaced in the last few months, however, have just been for the former.

But today, photos of a new case popped up on the web believed to have been made for the 5.5-inch model. Our friends over at Nowhereelse.fr share the images, which show a physical mockup of the alleged handset in the snap-on case, sitting next to a 4.7-inch version...
