What to expect from Apple’s iPad event

Last week, Apple sent out media invitations for an event set to take place on Tuesday, October 22 at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco, California. It's believed that the event will focus on new iPads, but OS X Mavericks and new Macs are also expected to get some on-stage time.

On the iPad front, we're anticipating a new 9.7-inch model with a redesigned shell, an A7 processor and other upgraded internals. And as for the iPad mini, it sounds like Apple's tiny tablet is finally going to be getting that high resolution Retina display everyone has been asking for.

iPad owns 91 percent of tablet ad impressions

Next to developer allegiance, where advertisers are spending their mobile ad dollars could be the most significant sign of whether Apple or Android is winning. New numbers out today show Apple's iOS is trouncing Google and it is the iPad that's leading the way. Indeed, the Apple tablet was the target of more than 91 percent of mobile ad impressions.

What's more, despite a near neck-and-neck race in terms of ad impressions on smartphones, the iPhone outperforms Android handsets for hauling in ad revenue. For example, while Android smartphones deliver 30.5 percent of mobile ad impressions, the platform receives just 27.7 percent of the revenue.

By comparison, although the iPhone receives 30.8 percent of impressions, it gets 36.44 percent of revenue, according to a mobile ad analytic firm Opera Mediaworks...

With Apple's tablet event just a few days away, speculation continues to mount on what we may see unveiled on stage. A redesigned iPad 5 seems like a given, but there are still some unknowns regarding the new iPad mini.

The biggest question on everyone's mind is if the 7.9-inch slate will get the Retina treatment this time around. According to Peter Misek, the answer is yes. The analyst fully expects Apple to introduce a hi-res mini next week...

Pinterest 3.0 is out with iOS 7-inspired design, ability to swipe between pins

Pinterest users will be happy to hear that the photo-sharing website has finally posted an iOS 7 update for its iPhone and iPad client. The update, which brings the app to version 3.0, brings about a UI refresh, and more.

The redesign ticks all of the usual iOS 7-edition makeover boxes. The icon has been flattened, as have most of the buttons and other UI elements, and certain sections of the app have been given a splash of white paint...

AT&T introduces new data plans for tablets: 250MB for $5/day, 1GB for $25 per 3 months

Today, at GigaOM’s Mobilize conference and ahead of Apple's iPad event next Tuesday, AT&T cunningly announced a pair of new data-only cellular plans beginning with the basic tier that will set you back five bucks per day, which buys you 250MB of 3G or high-speed 4G LTE cellular data. It's a nice option for those who only occasionally use their iPad while out and about, without Wi-Fi nearby.

Charlie Penrose, AT&T’s Senior Vice President of Emerging Devices, said at the conference that his company hopes the new tablet-only data offering will give customers yet another reason to consider cellular devices instead of overwhelmingly opting for Wi-Fi-only tablets. Jump past the fold to read about AT&T's other tier...

Banners go up at Yerba Buena Center ahead of Tuesday’s iPad event

With less than a week until Apple's big reveal next Tuesday, October 22, banners are now going up the Yerba Buena Center for Arts building downtown in San Francisco, California.

Banner design calls for a bunch of colorful leaves we saw on Apple's invitation, possibly mimicking the iOS 7 color scheme or suggesting colorful iPads.
