Counting iPhones, iPads, and iPods, iOS is Reaching More Users Than Android

We are always comparing iOS to Android in some form or another. From device performance to market share, we've held many debates on which is the greater platform.

While Android smartphones dominate Apple's in terms of market share, what about in terms of total mobile OS exposure? Out of phones, media players and tablets, which platform is the most popular?

Untrackerd Stops Your iPhone From Secretly Tracking Your Location

Ryan Petrich has released a new jailbreak utility in Cydia called untrackerd. This utility blocks iOS from saving the secretly logged location data that the iPhone stores in a system file.

In case you didn't know, some researchers recently discovered that the iPhone records and saves your location coordinates without your permission. The location data is then stored to a system-level file that is then copied over to iTunes on sync.

How to Downgrade iPhone iOS 4.3.2

With the release of iOS 4.3.2 this late last week, and the new iOS 4.3.2 redsn0w jailbreak still not completely stable, some of you might not want to wait any longer for a stable jailbreak, or maybe you’re having additional issues with the new OS. Whatever the reason might be, you can downgrade from your current iOS version to an earlier version using your SHSH blobs on file.

It is important you have your SHSH blobs on file for the iOS version you want to downgrade to. If you don’t have your SHSH blobs on file for the iOS you want to downgrade to, you will not be able to downgrade. You can check which SHSH blobs on file you’ve got by launching Cydia and looking at the top of the Cydia homepage where it lists all your saved SHSH blobs.

Fake iPhone 4 Nano Being Sold in China for $60

With rumors flying about the iPhone 5, little attention has been paid to the iPhone Nano rumors that surfaced months ago. While the U.S. has remained quiet about a future iPhone Nano device, Chinese dealers are beginning to sell knock-off iPhone 4 Nano's to the tune of about $60 U.S.

These fake, mini iPhone devices run a Java-based iOS ripoff and behave a lot like the original iPhone. Most notably, these Chinese knock-offs are about 2/3 the size of the real iPhone 4...

Adobe Looking to Finally Bring Flash to iOS, Sort of

We've talked about Adobe Flash on iDB quite a bit. The absence of the platform plugin in iOS products has been a hot button issue since the original iPhone was released. For those who have been living under a rock for the last few years, let me break it down for you.

Adobe's Flash is used in close to 80% of the top 100 most visited websites, so needless to say, it's pretty popular. Apple, the maker of some of the hottest portable electronics right now, has barred Flash from its mobile platform for several reasons. And now it looks like after years of watching home-grown tweaks bring Flash content to iOS devices, Adobe might finally have an answer of their own...

Apple Gets Sued by Parent Over In-App Purchasing

Remember when we told you about the in-app purchasing changes that came with iOS 4.3? Apple removed the 15 minute window of password-free app purchasing in wake of consumer complaints. At the time, several angry parents were asking the FCC for an investigation into Apple's in-app purchasing practices.

Well, it appears that the recent update didn't make the situation blow over, because the complaints have started to materialize. A Pennsylvanian man adds his name to a long list of people in litigation with Apple, filing a lawsuit citing breach of contract and unjust enrichment...

Android vs. iOS – Why Google Wins No Matter What

Android vs. iOS is a popular debate topic, but it might just be happening at the consumer level. 9to5 Mac ran an interesting story this morning about some comments made by Google's Asia-Pacific president, Daniel Alegre."When the iPhone succeeds, Google succeeds," he mentions in an interview with AdNews.

This alone shouldn't catch anyone off guard. With over 100 million iPhones out in the wild using Google's little search bar built into Safari, why wouldn't Google be pleased with the iPhone's success?

iOS Moves Ahead of Android in Advertising, Still on Top for App Revenue

Men lie, women lie, numbers don't. According to a recent report from Millenial Media, iOS is the hottest platform right now for developers and advertisers. The Application Platform Mix is part of Millenial Media's monthly Mobile Mix report.

The release is full of statistics on market share and advertising impressions by mobile device platform. While Android seems to sustain a lead in the smartphone market by sheer volume, iOS is still considered the most profitable platform...

An iPhone User’s Experience with Android

Things can get a little heated when iPhone and Android users start arguing over who has the better phone. The Android/iPhone debate is king of the smartphone rivalries, and iPhone fanatics swear by their platform just as much as Android users.

Few people actually use both an Android and iPhone device for any extended period of time. Usually, the fights occur between people that are sitting on opposite sides of the smartphone fence. It's always interesting to hear the experience of someone that's thoroughly used both platforms...

iTable: Where the iPhone and Furniture Meet

The iTable is the first coffee table made out of a giant stack of iPhone 4s. Well, at least it looks like it's made out of a giant stack of iPhone 4s.

Based on a concept by Kyle Buckner, the iTable is the first venture into Apple-themed furniture. Equipped with an iPhone dock, sound system, touch sensitive controls, and LED cup holders, the iTable is the ultimate living room piece for the Apple enthusiast.

The only sad thing is that you probably won't be able to jailbreak the iTable...
