Apple officially launches iTunes Music Store in 56 new countries

Yesterday we reported that the iTunes Music Store had gone live in Russia, Turkey and a handful of other countries. The rollout came just one day before Apple's rumored iTunes event in Moscow.

But as it turns out, the Music expansion is much bigger than we originally thought. Apple published a press release last night announcing that it's rolling out iTunes Music to 56 new countries...

iTunes Music Store goes live in Russia, Turkey and other countries

Earlier today, we passed along a report that Apple was going to be holding an iTunes event in Moscow tomorrow to celebrate the launch of its music store in Russia. Rumors have been circulating for some months now that iTunes Music was on its way to the country, and it appears they were dead on. Ahead of tomorrow's event, users in Russia are seeing the iTunes Music Store populate...

iTunes ranks among the world’s largest media companies

Apple revolutionized the music industry when it first introduced the iTunes Music Store back in 2003. At the time, people were either spending $10-$15 for a CD, or pirating their music from a p2p service like BearShare. And iTunes came in and changed all that.

Since then, Apple has really turned the Store into a media empire. It added TV shows in 2005, movies in 2006, apps in 2008 and then books and magazines shortly after. Today, Apple's iTunes business ranks among some of the world's largest media companies...

Apple holding an iTunes event in Russia tomorrow

Looks like Apple's iTunes music service is coming to Russia, if today's report is to be believed. According to a tipster, Apple has invited a small group of people to an iTunes event in Moscow on the evening of December 4. Rumors first began circulating of a possible iTunes launch in the country back in November, when a Russian blog spotted that iTunes music was starting to surface in the country, with a  search in the App Store for music returning a link to what appeared to be an iTunes portal...

BTIG Research: iTunes 11 feature could hint at future streaming service

As far back as I can remember, iTunes has always given users access to web radio stations. It comes pre-installed with hundreds of them, from practically every genre, from all around the world.

I've never really used the feature, and frankly I'm surprised that it hasn't been eliminated yet. But according to BTIG Research, its presence in iTunes 11 could be the sign of something bigger...

Poll: is iTunes 11 snappier?

More than anything, today's release of iTunes 11 has put Apple's reputation on the line. After delaying the media jukebox program for a month in order "to get it right", and having fired iOS chief Scott Forstall while letting SVP Eddy Cue rise as “a prime architect of Apple's software strategy", the iPhone maker must not stumble now. While iTunes 11 does not exactly mark a fresh start for the decade-old app, it truly delivers important enhancements while de-cluttering the interface and introducing under-the-hood tweaks.

These all work in concert to make your experience enjoyable and more streamlined. And now that you've played with it, iDB wants to know whether iTunes 11 feels snappier on your system versus the previous version...

Starbucks and Apple launch new (RED) gift card

This is kind of cool: Apple and Starbucks have teamed up to offer the Starbucks iTunes (RED) eGift basket, a joint gift card that offers credit for both Starbucks and iTunes purchases. And, as you might have guessed, the (RED) moniker means that a percentage of the profits made from the eGift basket will go towards AIDS research...

Apple’s Remote app gains iTunes 11 support, Up Next, revamped iPad UI and more

Following the official release of iTunes 11 for Mac and Windows and an incremental Apple TV firmware update, today's update bonanza continues with the release of a minor update to Apple's Remote iOS app. It now plays nice with iTunes 11, of course, and includes a redesigned interface on iPad tablets that takes design cues from the new iTunes, just as the previous version was reminiscent of desktop iTunes. As for iTunes 11 support, the updated Remote app now includes overhauled library views, an expanded view for your media, improved search results, the new UpNext feature and more...

New in iTunes 11: redeem giftcards with your Mac’s FaceTime camera

As we're sorting through all of the major changes in iTunes 11, the Interwebs is starting to light up with reports of the little things and nice-to-haves that Apple did not include in the full changelog for iTunes 11. One of such features that I know will be hugely popular with parents and people who buy iTunes Gift Cards is the ability to redeem any such card with your Mac's camera, without typing in a single character, just like that. It's just one of those little things that make life more easier and enjoyable. Here's how it works...

Revamped iTunes 11 arrives: Up Next, new MiniPlayer, deep iCloud integration, more

The Wall Street Journal, Apple's unofficial mouthpiece, was right reporting yesterday that iTunes 11 would launch at some point today. Yes, the eleventh major version of the decade-old media jukebox software just went live on Apple's servers. You can download it manually by heading over to Apple's iTunes Download page (and reload if necessary). Alternatively, choose Software Update from the Mac's Apple menu or run the Software Update app available in the Start menu in Windows...

AppleCare reps given pre-release iTunes 11 builds ahead of today’s release

According to a new report, Apple Care representatives are installing pre-release builds of iTunes 11 as we speak, most likely part of an effort to give them a couple hour lead time ahead of the official worldwide release later today. As you know, the Wall Street Journal yesterday reported that iTunes 11, after being delayed for a month due to unspecified “engineering issues” requiring parts to be rebuilt, will be ready for public consumption on Thursday, November 29...

WSJ: iTunes 11 arriving tomorrow

According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple is ready to finally push iTunes 11 right out of the gate Thursday, November 29. Apple delayed the software for a month because the redesigned media player was "taking longer than expected" and the company wanted to "take a little extra time to get it right". The Journal reports that the new iTunes has been delayed due to unspecified "engineering issues" that apparently required parts to be rebuilt...
