Next-gen iPad shells in gold leak out

We previously heard October should be for new iPads. As various parts and components are now leaking out from China on a daily basis, it’s fairly safe to assume that next-generation iPads are indeed around the corner. Just recently, we’ve seen leaked iPad 5 schematics, shells and an alleged Touch ID module and now a set of photographs have been posted online seemingly depicting the rear case of both the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2.

Provided these shots are legit, Apple could pull an iPhone 5s and provide both new iPads in gold, in addition to the previously leaked white and space grey finishes…

New photos offer clear look at Apple’s upcoming iPad 5

I would say ‘spoiler alert,’ but I’m sure it’s far too late for that. Photos of shells and components belonging to Apple’s fifth-generation tablet have been bouncing around the web since January of this year.

But these new images offer an extremely clear look at the so-called iPad 5—perhaps the best we’ve seen thus far. And they give us a really good idea of what we can expect to see from Apple later this month…

iPad event pegged for October 22

According to AllThingsD, the reliable technology blog operated by The Wall Street Journal, Apple will be holding an iPad focused event exactly two weeks from today, on October 22. Now, Apple typically likes to run its big media events on Tuesdays and October 22 is a Tuesday. It’s also six days before Apple’s upcoming fiscal 2013 fourth quarter earnings release so it should be a boon for the stock price.

And as per the obligatory “people familiar with Apple’s plans” (read: Apple’s public relations department), the invitation-only event will focus on new iPads, though new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks should get some stage time as well…

Video shows Touch ID Home button fits in alleged iPad 5 front

Now that Apple has launched its long-rumored fingerprint sensor in the iPhone 5s, the next big question is: when will it make it into the iPad? A recent leak indicates we may see it in the new iPad mini this year, but what about the iPad 5?

While there’s no way to concretely answer this question until Apple unveils the tablet, a new video hit the web yesterday that aims to provide some insight. Apparently the 5s’ Touch ID Home button fits perfectly in a front panel for an iPad 5…

New report calls for 8MP camera in both iPad 5 and iPad mini 2

Get ready, it looks like iPad-wielding picture-takers are about to multiply. According to a new report, Apple is going to beef up the iSight cameras in both its fifth generation iPad and second generation iPad mini this year.

Highly regarded analyst Ming-Chi Kuo sent out a note to investors this afternoon, claiming that the two tablets—which are expected to be unveiled later this month—will feature 8-megapixel shooters with larger apertures…

New video offers detailed look at alleged iPad 5 shell

Apple’s next-generation full-sized iPad is expected to sport a redesigned casing, similar to that of the iPad mini. It’s said to be lighter and thinner than the iPad 4, with an overall smaller footprint.

And a new video surfaced this weekend that gives us a good idea of just how much the two tablets will differ in size, by comparing the measurements of an alleged iPad 5 shell with its predecessor…

Leaked schematics suggest iPad 5 is thinner than iPhone 5s, lighter than iPad 4

Earlier this week, high-quality photos surfaced picturing an alleged fifth-generation iPad shell in ‘Space Grey’, the very same finish Apple debuted with the iPhone 5s. Matching up with tons of previously leaked images and rumors, these piccies reinforce suggestions that the iPad 5 adopts the iPad mini’s skinnier side bezels and overall design.

An Apple-focused blog today posted what appears to be legitimate iPad 5 schematics, providing a glimpse into the iPad 5’s design. In months past, rumors have pointed to Apple shedding the fat by using a thinner display assembly and a smaller LED backlighting module.

Now, the most interesting aspect of today’s leaked documentation deals with the iPad 5’s thickness: the device appears significantly thinner and lighter than its predecessor, the iPad 4…

Leaked vid purports to show iPad 5 Smart Covers

It’s been a while since we heard anything newsworthy concerning Apple’s upcoming fifth-generation iPad, apart from a supposed Space Grey backplate from yesterday. YouTube user Unbox Therapy today posted a video which allegedly shows off Smart Covers for the iPad 5 in a bunch of vivid colors.

It looks pretty legit and while I can’t vouch for its veracity, I’ve decided to post it here for the sake of discussion. There are a few noteworthy observations to be gleaned from watching the clip so check it out after the break and meet us in comments…

Hi-res photos of alleged ‘Space Gray’ iPad 5 shell surface

With the new iPhones now unveiled and shipping, the rumor mill’s attention of course turns to Apple’s tablet lines. It’s widely believed that we’ll see a media event for a new iPad and iPad mini next month.

And as with the new iPhones, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect. The new mini is said to look a lot like its predecessor, with a Retina display, and the new full-sized iPad should look like, well, this…

Apple to hold another media event on October 15?

With last week’s official introduction of the flagship iPhone 5s and the colorful iPhone 5c now behind us, our attention slowly but surely turns to Apple’s next major product launch. iDB, along with a few other reliable blogs, suspected there won’t be new iPads in September as the company would have been unwise to focus its attention (and waste headlines) on both new iPads and iPhones.

The French blog MacGeneration, which has somewhat of a mixed track record, has now pegged an iPad-related event at October 15 (that’s a Tuesday)…

New video gives detailed look at alleged iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 shells

Hot on the heels of a pair of videos that surfaced earlier this week showcasing purported iPad 5 and second generation iPad mini 2 shells, comes a new clip that goes over both components in extreme detail.

The new video takes a look at the iPad 5’s all-new mini-like form factor, and how it compares in size to its predecessor. It also shows differences in the tablets’ buttons, ambient light sensors, and much more…

Rumor: Apple to release A7X-based iPad and iPad mini this year, lower-cost A6 mini in 2014

The oft-accurate Apple analyst has spoken again. KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo came down off of his proverbial mountain last night and sent out a letter to investors with some predictions regarding Apple’s iPad plans for the end of this year, and the beginning of next.

Kuo, who as we’ve said before has a solid track record in predicting Apple’s product plans, says that he believes we’ll see two new tablets from the company this year: a fifth-generation iPad and a second-generation iPad mini. And both of them will have an A7X chipset…
