Augment the About page in your iPhone’s Settings app with System Info

If you didn’t already know, you could navigate to Settings → General → About on your iPhone or iPad to discover a plethora of statistics about your device. Nevertheless, Apple limits what you can see and do here.

To change that, iOS developer ARX8x launched a new free jailbreak tweak called System Info. It expands upon the existing out-of-the-box statistics and also adds handy new features to the About page.

Manage your cellular data usage more effectively with Membrane

Anyone without an unlimited data plan knows about the struggle of working inside a carrier's tiny cap allotments. While plenty of App Store apps exist that can help you track data usage, a new jailbreak tweak called Membrane by iOS developer candoizo can take things even further.

Membrane integrates directly with the Cellular preference pane in the Settings app to give you fine-grained control over what apps connect to the internet over a cellular connection, and which ones don’t. It also provides real-time information to keep you alert about how you're using all of your data.

Truphone to bring its Apple SIM data plans to 30+ markets later this year

Truphone announced today that its Apple SIM data plans for cellular iPads are now officially available in Ireland and Portugal following last week's launch in Australia and the Netherlands.

The service is also available in Hong Kong, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom, with an additional 31 countries to follow by the end of 2017.

These plans let iPad owners instantly get online and stay connected via the Truphone network at home and while traveling in 40 countries without international roaming charges.

Truphone is giving customers 100MB of data for free, with a try before you buy offer making it easy for customers to get 4G data directly on their iPad with no obligation to purchase.

To sign up for the service, just tap Settings > Mobile Data > Set Up Mobile Data, select Truphone as your provider and choose a data bucket you need for a month. You can buy more data at any time with a valid Visa or MasterCard in 40 countries.

Two new features are now available, too:

Auto Renew: Automatically purchase a new data plan when the current one expires or is consumed for uninterrupted 4G connectivity, with built-in overspend protection. Top Up Anytime: The freedom to add more data anytime, anywhere without having to wait for your plan to expire. Create an easily-managed queue of data plans to make sure you never run out of data.

Apple SIM is built into all cellular iPad Pro models and is compatible with the fifth-generation iPad, first-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro, iPad mini 4 and iPad Air 2 cellular models.

Weight, size, and battery life: iPhone X vs iPhone 8 vs iPhone 7

Rather than announcing just one new iPhone this year with two different screen sizes, Apple shook things up by announcing an entirely new iPhone X with a 5.8-inch edge-to-edge OLED display alongside their typical 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone models.

There’s bound to be some confusion about some of the most important specs between the devices, so in this piece, we’ll talk about the differences in weight, dimensions, and battery life as we do every year.

AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile will charge $10 per month for cellular Apple Watch service

With some Apple Watch Series 3 models gaining cellular support, the big unknown from Apple's event was the cost of that add-on to users' existing phone plans. We've now had that answer as AT&T and Verizon have revealed to The Street that they will both charge $10 per month. T-Mobile also confirmed to iDB reader Matthew M. that the carrier will also be charging $10 per month.

DetailedCellularUsage reveals hidden items in your iPhone’s cellular usage report

Cellular data is one of those things we seem to always use regularly, but fail to keep track of as efficiently as we could. This becomes a problem when you swear your data provider is over-charging you for your data usage.

A new free jailbreak tweak called DetailedCellularUsage by TheComputerWhisperer helps reveal some of the gray areas where iOS uses your cellular data and doesn’t report it in the Settings app.

Verizon introduces new $80 prepaid unlimited data plan

Verizon on Tuesday announced that it's launching a new unlimited data plan for its prepaid customers. Starting today you can activate the plan, which features unlimited data, talk and text, for $80 per month.

“In just months, Verizon has transformed its prepaid offerings to make it easier and more affordable for customers to get access to the best network at a great value, no matter how much data they need,” said Tami Erwin, executive vice president of operations for Verizon. “This plan is all about giving our prepaid customers more choice. With data plans from as little as 2 GB to unlimited data, we’ve got a plan that fits your needs.”

In addition to the 2GB and unlimited plans, Verizon offers a 5GB plan for $50 and a 10GB plan for $70. Each of these plans include Always-On Data, international text to over 200 countries, and CarryOver data.

Today's news comes less than a week after Verizon announced it lost nearly 300,000 postpaid subscribers during its first quarter. The carrier pointed to its lack of unlimited offerings as the biggest factor in the slide.

What’s AT&T Stream Saver and how to turn it off?

Stream Saver is a new feature from AT&T that allows users to save cellular data by automatically streaming higher definition videos at a standard definition (480p). This feature has now officially been rolled out to all AT&T customers that are on a voice + data plan.

While Stream Saver can be a great feature if you're on a limited data plan, it can also be overkill if you have a large data cap, or even an unlimited one. If you fall under that category and want to keep enjoying videos you stream in their full resolution, it may not be a bad idea to disable Stream Saver which has been turned on by default for all eligible AT&T customers.
