10 Jailbreak Apps for iPhone to Boost Your Productivity

You thought your iPhone could do just about anything? Think again! I handpicked 10 applications for jailbroken iPhones that will boost your productivity and unleash the real potential of the iPhone. You won't find these applications in the App Store. You'll have to jailbreak your iPhone in order to install any these apps.

If you don't have these apps on your iPhone, you're missing out on 10 must-have features.

mQuickDo

Originally, mQuickDo lets you set up gestures to perform predefined actions (ie. slide left to right to close an opened application; or slide right to left to shut off the phone, etc…). The real power and most exciting feature about mQuickDo is the App Switcher. As its name suggests, the app switcher allows you to quickly switch between apps. More about mQuickDo.

QuickScroll

QuickScroll is an application available in Cydia that lets you scroll through documents and web pages very quickly. Once you have installed QuickScroll, simply tap 3 times anywhere on the page and a dialog will show up. Drag the scroller (see on the right of the image above) up and down to quickly go wherever you want on the page. More about QuickScroll.

GriP - Growl for iPhone

GriP tries to strike a balance between being unobstructive while still being able to give out clear information. With GriP, messages are (by default) shown as small floating windows in a corner, which will automatically disappear if you ignore it. In this way, you can still continue your process without missing anything. More about GriP.

Orbit

Orbit brings you an instant way to switch between pages on your home screen. Based on the “iPhone Expose” concept, this modification gives you an icon that, when tapped, animates your home page into Orbit. More about Orbit.

Action Menu

Action Menu is one of those mods that once you try it, you simply can’t live without it anymore. Action Menu takes a stab at enhancing the copy/paste function of your iPhone by adding a bunch of add-ons to it. More about Action Menu.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple implemented some of these applications' features in the next iPhone OS.

How to Set Any Song On Your iPhone As A Ringtone

AnyRing is a jailbreak application available in Cydia that lets you use any song on your iPhone as a custom ringtone or SMS ring.

There are several ways to add ringtones to your iPhone for free. Audiko is one of my favorite but it seems it's going to get some fierce competition from a new app called AnyRing.

With AnyRing (3.2) you can easily select any song on your iPhone (or Record you own voice) to play as a Ringtone or SMS Ring. AnyRing even lets you select the starting/ending point in the song to play when the Ringtone is played. Does not require any audio conversion of any type!

Here are some of the features:

Select any song on your device to act as a Ringtone. No Audio/File conversion needed. Select start and ending point in song to play as Ringtone. Easy to use interface.

AnyRing is available from the Cydia Store. It comes with a 10-day trial so you may want to try it out first, and if you like it, you can choose to pay the $3.99.

I think it's worth the price. What do you think?

Make Your iPhone Go Round With WindowPlaner

Wanna give a rounded look to your iPhone? There's a jailbreak app for that! It's called WindowPlaner and it will help you make your iPhone look a little bit more like the Palm Pre.

As you can see on this image, WindowPlaner simply makes the edges of your iPhone screen a little smoother by rounding them out.

It's definitely not a break-through app, but it's always nice to have new tweak for our favorite device, isn't it?

Have you tried it yet? Share your thoughts in the comments.

ProSwitcher Multitasking App for the iPhone

I can't remember the last time I was so excited about a jailbreak app. Maybe it was for Action Menu, or for mQuickDo? I'm not sure, but what I know is that ProSwitcher has radically changed the way I use my iPhone.

ProSwitcher is a multitasking app for the iPhone that kinda replicates the Palm Pre "cards" feature by adding a very nice UI to Backrounder, the jailbreak app that allows you to run apps in the background.

I never was a fan of Backgrounder. Having to close the app to launch another one kinda defeated the purpose. But ProSwitcher makes app switching seamless, and I have to say, with a certain style.

9 to 5 Mac gives a pretty good description of how it works:

You can trigger the cards view by opening the application from home-screen, touching the status bar, or by double clicking the home button. To add an application to the Cards view, you simple have to launch the app, then hold down the home button for about one to two seconds. To remove an app from the “Cards” view click the close button on the top left of the card, to swipe the card up the screen.

I ran ProSwitcher on my 3GS for a few hours with up to 10 apps open at once. It didn't crash, it didn't lag and the battery didn't seem to take a big hit from it. Obviously your mileage may vary...

What I like the best about ProSwitcher is how you can smoothly switch between apps without having to close/reopen them. Actually no! What I like the best about ProSwitcher is that it is free on Cydia via the BigBoss repo. Yes it's free, so grab it until the dev realizes that he should make you pay 10 bucks for it.

ProSwitcher is one of this application that should be implemented in the next iPhone OS and honestly, I really believe (and predict) that Apple is already stripping down the code of this app and trying to make it its own for iPhone OS 4.0.

Have you tried ProSwitcher yet? How do you like it?

iGizmoz Lets You Add Widgets to Your iPhone (No Jailbreak Necessary)

iGizmoz is a new application available in the App Store that will bring widgets to your iPhone without having to jailbreak it.

There are currently a few applications such as Cydget and SmartScreen that let you set up widgets on your iPhone but the downside, if we can call this a downside, is that you have to be jailbroken.

iGizmoz is legit and 100% Apple approved. It comes with 11 customizable widgets:

Calendar Countdown Flashlight Search tool Slideshow Speed dial Sticky notes Stopwatch Swinging creature Tic tac toe game World clock

The folks over at AIS seemed to really like iGizmoz:

I had absolutely no issues customizing or using any of the widgets. The entire application is extrememly smooth and exquisitely designed. iGizmoz is most definitely worth the $0.99 price tag if not only just to experience widgets at their best!

One problem I have with iGizmoz is that you have to launch the app first before being able to access the widgets. It kinda defeats the purpose of the whole widget thing but it's better than nothing. Purists might still prefer using jailbreak apps and access the widgets directly from the lockscreen.

You can download iGizmoz from the App Store for $0.99.

I'd be interested to see what you think about iGizmoz.

MultiFl0w Multitasking Application for iPhone

MultiFl0w is a new application that brings multitasking to the iPhone. MultiFl0w is not really an app per say, it's more of a mod that gives a nice UI to Backgrounder, the application that lets your run apps in the background.

I'm still in Australia with limited internet connection and I'd love to try MultiFl0w for myself but, the lack of wifi and the poor 3G signal won't allow me to, so I am just here reading reviews of it.

My friend Patrick wrote a rave review of MultiFl0w that I suggest you to read for more info about this app. This is in short what Patrick has to say about MultiFl0w:

Multifl0w is easily the best multitasking experience I’ve seen for the iPhone.

In the meantime, here is a video demo of MultiFl0w in action.

MultiFl0w is available to jailbroken iPhones only. If you haven't yet, that should give you yet another reason to jailbreak your iPhone. You can download MultiFlow from Cydia and Rock for $4.99 after a 10-day trial.

If unlike me you are able to download MultiFlow, please try it out and let me know what you think by leaving a comment.

CyDialer Brings Contacts Coverflow to Your iPhone Lockscreen

CyDialer is a new application by Saurik, the developer of Cydia, that aims to bring coverflow-like contact management to your iPhone lockscreen. Instead of launching your phone.app and going to the contacts, you can directly flick through your contacts on your lockscreen.

FSM gives a pretty good description of how CyDialer works:

Installing from Cydia, the preferences are accessed from the settings app and you select from them just like Winterboard (another Saurik creation). When exiting, it resprings and you are presented with your favorites (from the phone app) on the lockscreen. You can choose to have your wallpaper showing and a click of the home button, the favorite are there, scrollable just like cover flow from iTunes. Or you can choose to have the contacts show and dismiss with a tap of the home button. Chances of pocket dialing have been minimized by having a 2 step process to actually make the call. Tap the favorite, then slide to dial. Nice and easy.

According to Saurik, what sets CyDialer aside from other similar extensions is the attention to detail and quality of the app. The interface is designed to blend and integrate smoothly  into the lockscreen, and to be easily maintained as Apple releases firmware updates.

I haven't tested CyDialer myself, but it sure looks like a great app (and a good compliment to Cyntact. CyDialer is available from Cydia for $1.74.

Twidget: Get Twitter on Your iPhone LockScreen

Twidget is a new application available in Cydia that will display your Twitter stream on your iPhone lockscreen.

To install Twidget, simply go to Cydia and search for "Twidget". There are several versions available. I installed the simple version hosted on iSpazio.

After installing Twidget, launch the app and enter your Twitter credentials then go to WinterBoard to activate the widget.

WinterBoard will automatically respring your springboard and you should now see you Twitter stream.

From the lockscreen, you'll be able to see your friends' tweets, your own, your @replies and your favorites.

I installed this app just to test it and I uninstalled it right away because I suspect it to be a battery killer. I might be wrong though, so feel free to correct me if that's the case.

Still, I think it's a great application for all Twitter addicts out there.

GriP (Growl for iPhone) Notification Extension for iPhone

This is a guest post by Antonio J. If you would like to guest post on this blog, please check out the guidelines.

I absolutely adore my iPhone. However, there are some little details that are increasingly affecting the experience because the UI starts to show its age. I could name the lack of multitasking, or the lack of active content on the lockscreen and/or springboard (no widgets). Or, my main grip, the lack of a decent notification system.

Now that push notification apps are pretty much everywhere, it becomes obvious that the iPhone OS notification system does not cut it anymore. This is something even more blatant when you compare with the elegant and non-obtrusive way WebOS and Android handle notifications.

Jailbreakers however can suffer less with this. GriP (Growl for iPhone), a Project by KennyTM, author of other well known projects like QuickScroll, presents a great alternative to the stock notification system, even on its current beta stage.

Xpandr: Shortcuts Made Easy on the iPhone

Do you have to enter the same text over and over again on your iPhone? Do you need a reply template for emails? If so, Xpandr is for you.

Xpandr is a shortcut expander for the iPhone / iPod touch. It allows you to define an unlimited number of shortcuts to save time and make your life easier. It works in every application, even on App Store applications.

Let me tell you how beneficial Xpandr is for me

Every day on Twitter people ask me where to get jailbreak information. So every day, several times a day, I have to manually type a tweet containing the following URL: https://www.idownloadblog.com/jailbreak/. Not too complicated, but when you have to do it 8-9 times/day, it gets very annoying.

That's where Xpandr comes in. Xpandr allows you to create macros, or shortcuts if you prefer. To create a shortcut, simply tell Xpandr what the shortcut is and what the value of this shortcut is.

In our example, my shortcut is !jb (as in jailbreak) and the value of this macro is https://www.idownloadblog.com/jailbreak/

Now if I go to any application on my iPhone and I type !jb, it will automatically insert https://www.idownloadblog.com/jailbreak/.

I also set other shortcuts for !unlock, !signature, and more... This is a real time saver.

Xpandr is available on Cydia for $1.99 and I believe it is worth every penny.

Have you already tried this application? If so, tell me us what you think about it.

MultiIconMover: Move Several iPhone Icons at Once

MultiIconMover is one of those applications that should not exist. Why? Simply because they are so good that Apple should have implemented them into the iPhone OS. Yes, that's how good I think MultiIconMover is.

This app is very simple yet very practical. It allows you to select multiple icons to move them to a different page on your springboard. So instead of moving your icons one at a time, you can select many of them and move them all at once wherever you want.

MultiIconMover is a mod, not really an application per say, so you won't find an icon for it after installing the application. Follow these steps to get MultiIconMover into action

Simply tap and hold your finger on an application until they all start wiggling. Then select all the icons you want to move and a little red checkmark will appear (see image above). Now move to a different page and hit the "home" button. Done! Your icons will be moved to the selected page. Hit the home button one more time and the icons will stop wiggling.

This is definitely a faster way to move your icons around the springboard.

MultiIconMover is available for free in the App Store. No, I'm kidding. It's on Cydia...

What do you think of this mod?
