What’s Your Favorite Jailbreak App for iPhone?

I always try to cover the latest jailbreak apps for iPhone here on iDB, and from time to time I stumble onto some real gems. But let's be honest, I don't know everything there is to know about jailbreak apps, and I think I might be missing a few good ones, which is why I'd like to know what your favorite jailbreak app is.

Let's put it this way... if you had to go to a desert island and you could only have one jailbreak app on your iPhone, which one would it be? I know, it's stupid but you get the idea...

HDR Camera Enabler Brings HDR to Your iPhone 3G or 3GS

HDR Camera Enabler is a new application available in Cydia that supposedly brings the HDR camera feature to your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS. I said "supposedly" because there is no way to test this mod until a jailbreak is available for iOS 4.1.

I really find it odd that this mod was released when there isn't even a jailbreak to support it. I guess it's all based on "theories" and it can't have possibly been tested out yet. Only time will tell whether it works or not...

Rock Your Phone is Dead. Long Live Cydia!

The news fell a couple days ago that Rock Your Phone had been acquired by Cydia. This is without a doubt the biggest business move ever made in the jailbreak community, and it is a clear sign of the potential of "underground apps".

I've never been a huge fan of Rock even though it had some really neat features. We'll all remember how fast it loaded as well as its backup feature, among others. Is this going to come to Cydia now that Rock is dead?

Breaking: Cydia Acquires Rock

ModMyI reports that SaurikIT LLC just acquired Rock Your Phone Inc. In other words, Cydia bought Rock. Cydia has always been the installer of choice for most of us, but Rock was slowly getting traction, especially for some of its advanced features like the ability to back up your packages.

If you didn't think the jailbreak community was a big business on its own, then it's time to think again. Just like in the App Store, there is a lot of money to be made from applications, especially for those offering a marketplace like the App Store and Cydia.

What Would Things Be Like if Microsoft Had Invented the iPhone?

When I was in junior high school the only thing I knew about Apple was that they made computers with enormous floppy disk drives. The Discman was the hottest portable music player and it would cost you about $100 for the latest and greatest. Bill Gates was a nerdy guy who was also the richest man in the world.

Imagine if you will that Steve Jobs never came back to Apple and the quirky computer company died off, leaving Microsoft as the uncontested developer to produce us our technological fixes. Assume that the story plays out identical to the way it is today with Gates and company unveiling the now iPhone under the Seattle based company...

Does Apple’s SDK for iOS Kill Creativity?

I can't imagine owning an iPhone or other Apple handheld without the addition of the App Store. I've said before that I believe it to be the greatest asset to the iOS platform. So what's the problem?

Apple Investor outlines the possibility that a vague module and a totalitarian controlled acceptance process has caused developers to walk on egg shells thus stunting their creativity. Some say the terms of service are often inconsistent, but as with any report like this, there are two lines of thought to be heard...

Jailbreak Mod Removes Folder Badges on Your iPhone

Have you ever been annoyed by the badges showing on the folders of your iPhone? Personally, it never bugged me but Chpwn, the developer of No Folder Badges must think otherwise.

No Folder Badges is a new tweak available in Cydia that does one single thing: removing the folder badges (ie. badges for available app updates, unread emails, etc...).

Conserve Your iPhone Battery with ScreenDimmer

ScreenDimmer

Apple promised better battery life with the iPhone 4 but let's face it, it still falls short. But then again, depending on how you use it, a full charge can last anywhere from just a few hours to a couple of days (I'm being very generous). I'll admit I'm a heavy iPhone user. It's useful and I like it and being a heavy iPhone user obviously taxes the battery. I run very few things in the background to conserve battery life but I want more conservation.

Popup Blocker for iPhone Gives You More Control Over Your Notifications

Popup Blocker

We all know Apple Push Notification system falls a little short in with good notification management. To a point, Apple gave us the ability to control push notification popup: either on or off. Great choice, right? The popup notifications can become a nuisance when you're in the middle of an email, for example, and a friend decides to start messaging you. For each message, you get a nice popup, usually with the text of the message, depending on the messaging application.

For those of you wanting to suppress those annoying popups, Popup Blocker is the application you've been itching for. Popup Blocker gives you the ability to switch on/off over 10 native alerts.

This is For Those Who Are Scared to Jailbreak Their iPhone

After weeks of self debate and bugging Sebastien about the possibilities of jailbreaking my iPhone 4, I took the leap of faith Wednesday night and cracked opened my device. I must say that the whole process was unbelievably painless and took no more than 5 minutes to perform the hack and update the Cydia packages.

I used JailbreakMe to perform the procedure and I will vouch for the website any day. After 2 or 3 minutes of loading, the device was jailbroken and ready to be used. Perhaps it was the Apple aroma in the air after their event, but nevertheless having jailbroken my iPhone 4 makes it feel like launch day all over again...

New Jailbreak Application Removes Selected Apps from the App Switcher

Are you confused by the title of this post? Yeah, me too, but I couldn't figure out how to clearly say what I wanted it to say. Anyways, now that I've got your attention, I want to talk to you about a new jailbreak app called Remove Background.

You might remember the Remove Background SBSettings Toggle we showed you a couple weeks ago. The Remove Background app works hand in hand with it.
