Make Your iPhone Go Round With WindowPlaner

Wanna give a rounded look to your iPhone? There's a jailbreak app for that! It's called WindowPlaner and it will help you make your iPhone look a little bit more like the Palm Pre.

As you can see on this image, WindowPlaner simply makes the edges of your iPhone screen a little smoother by rounding them out.

It's definitely not a break-through app, but it's always nice to have new tweak for our favorite device, isn't it?

Have you tried it yet? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Featured iPhone Theme: Ellseedee

Every once in a while I find a great theme on Cydia and I have to say that Ellseedee (as in LCD) is one of the most beautiful simple themes I have seen.

The problem with that type of theme is that if you don't have an icon for a particular application, then your theme looks all funky. This theme for example doesn't come with many icons and it doesn't have an icon for Tweetie. If I was to put the Tweetie icon on the springboard, it would look out of place.

Oh well, it's still a great theme that deserves a little attention.

Give A Matte Twist to Your iPhone UI

WinterBoard is one of my favorite jailbreak apps because it allows me to customize my iPhone and make it "stand out" from the crowd. One of the latest tweaks I found to push the customization a little further is to have a full custom UI.

There is a great-looking UI tweak available in Cydia called Matte UI Graphite.

Here are a few screenshots of what the new UI looks like. Changes are very subtle, yet very elegant...

Palm Pre Theme For iPhone

Here is a nice and simple Pre theme for iPhone I found on ModMyi. It doesn't come with many icons but it covers the most commom ones. You may download this theme from here.

How To Install An iNav Theme On Your iPhone

If you're iPhone is jailbroken and that you look at Cydia apps and mods from time to time, you most likely came across the iNav themes. iNav themes are a little more complex than your usual theme and simply activating the theme in WinterBoard won't be enough. You will need to prep your iPhone and that's exactly what I'm going to show you today.

Installing an iNav theme is not hard at all but it will take a few minutes of your time.

This Is My New Favorite iPhone Theme

This is my new iPhone theme. I find it absolutely gorgeous! It's called Aladar and it's available through the MacCiti repo on Cydia. I tweaked it a little bit so it doesn't look exactly like the original, but it's still very close. You will need WinterBoard to activate this theme.

Install Five-Column SpringBoard

This quick guide will show you how to have a 5 column springboard on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

According to Sakurina, the guy behind five-column SpringBoard:

Five-Column SpringBoard is a MobileSubstrate extension that adds a fifth column to your iPhone's home screen. It looks especially nice with nano-sized icon themes, like Abeo or Pump. It's unfinished and but should be relatively safe to use on any firmware over 2.0. Works best on 2.2. Use at your own risk.

To do that, you will have to be on a jailbroken iPhone and install a few applications from Cydia:

Erica Utilities MobileSubstrate MobileTerminal Ruby

Once this is done:

Download this file: fcsb-054.deb Upload it somewhere on your iPhone over SFTP/SCP Log in as root via SSH on your iPhone and change to wherever you put the deb file Run dpkg -i fcsb-0.54.deb Respring

Pink iPhone 3G is “Absolutely Fabulous”

A mysterious Pink iPhone 3G showed up on eBay today and while a Red iPhone had been rumored for a while, I honestly didn't think about a pink model, especially one for sale on eBay...

If you look at the back of the iPhone, it clearly looks legit, and not some type of ColorWare job. Like Engadget suggests, it could be some OEM in Asia whipping up custom colors. Or maybe Apple ready to announce it at MacWorld next week? I don't think so.

What's your take on it?

Elegance Is My New Favorite iPhone Theme

I am not a big "theme guy" but from time to time, I find some very cool themes and I like to feature them on the blog. That is the case of a new theme that is available since this morning in Cydia called Elegance.

I had to manually customize this theme a little bit as it was created by an Italian designer and most of the icons were in Italian, which prevented my iPhone to recognize most of them and display them correctly. For example, the "Maps" icon is named Maps.png but it is named Mappe.png in Italian, and my iPhone didn't show it as it was looking for the English version.

To edit some of the icon names, I plugged my iPhone to my computer and launched iPhoneBrowser. In a couple minutes, I renamed the 5-6 icons that I needed... and voila!

Elegance includes a lock screen, custom slider, wallpaper, tons of icons, SMS background and more. As you can see from the image above, Elegance really deserves that name. I think it is a beautiful theme that might get to stay on my iPhone for a while...

iPhone Ringtone Maker/Search Engine Audiko Is Great

I am not a ringtone person. If you ask me, I think it is very tacky to have the music of the latest Fallout Boys (I hate them) as a ringtone. More obnoxious than that would be a ringtone yelling "HEY EVERYONE COME SEE HOW LAME I AM". Enough for the bagging... The ringtone on my iPhone is the stock "old phone" ringtone. Not very original but it works great. Anyways, this post is about Audiko, so let's talk about it.

From what I can tell, Audiko is a Russian site that does 2 things for you:

ringtone search engine ringtone maker

Before going into the details, I want to let you know that Audiko is 100% free and you don't even have to register to use it.

Audiko as a ringtone search engine

Like any search engine, you type your query in the search box and the site will return a few results. When I saw that, I assumed that it would only have a few ringtones for Madonna, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and other uber commercial bands like that but after putting it to the test for 5 minutes, Audiko would find ringtones for every band I was looking for, even  for some obscur French reggae band. I probably tried 20 different bands and it found something for me every single time. I was impressed. The only band it didn't find was NTM, a French hip hop band of the 90's, which by the way just got back together (and they rock rap!).

Once you find what you're looking for, you can listen to the ringtone and you can either download it in mp3 to your desktop or even better, you can download it in m4r, which is the "official" format for iPhone ringtones. After downloading the ringtone, simply add it to your ringtone folder in iTunes, sync your iPhone, and you're done!

For each song, they have several ringtones at different time in the song. For example, they have a ringtone for the first 30 seconds of the song, and they may have other ringtones for let's say the chorus or the first verse.

You won't only find ringtones of songs but pretty much anything you could think of. You can also find ringtones made of movie quote. My favorite one is the Anchorman ringtone saying "I love scotch. Scotch scotch scotch. Here goes down. Down into my belly. Mm mm mm".

Creating your own ringtone

Making your own ringtone is as easy as it could possibly be. Upload the song you want to make a ringtone of. Then choose what part of the song you want (you are limited to 30 seconds). Click "create ringtone" and you're done.

After creating the ringtone, it will ask you to add a title for the song, the album and the artist. After that, you will be able to download your ringtone and sync it to your iPhone.

I created my own ringtone from Linval Thompson's Six Babylon. I will not use this ringtone on my phone but anyone looking for Linval Thompson on Audiko will be able to download it, which is why Audiko has such a great variety of ringtones. The secret is that their ringtones are user-created.

Audiko is an excellent site and as I said above, it's totally free. Give it a try and post your own ringtones in the comments section.
