iOS 7.1 beta 4 believed to patch key evasi0n7 exploit

As most of you know, Apple released a new version of iOS 7.1 for developers yesterday. It's the fourth beta for the next major update to iOS, and as you can imagine, we've been asked a number of times if it kills the month-old evasion7 jailbreak software.

Well we don't know for sure, which is why we've been holding off on reporting about this, but we've received word that it's likely it does. And iH8sn0w added weight to the theory this morning, saying that it looks like beta 4 patches evasion7's kernel exploit...

Apple has released the fourth beta of iOS 7.1 to registered developers this morning. The update, which carries the build number 11D5134c, can be downloaded OTA or via Apple’s developer center.

Today’s release comes just two weeks after the third beta, which brought about a number of UI changes including a new dialer, less vibrant icons for Messages, Phone and FaceTime apps, and more...

BGR: Apple seeding iOS 7.1 Beta 4 to devs tomorrow, carriers already testing it

After seeding the third beta of iOS 7.1 to its registered developers, the company could release another beta as soon as tomorrow, according to BGR. While BGR's track record is not as stellar as it used to be, the tech blog did accurately predict several iOS 7 betas last summer.

According to the publication, iOS 7.1 Beta 4 will be out tomorrow as Apple continues to squash bugs and fix the remaining hiccups, including keyboard issues and problems with the Contacts app.

iOS 7 Beta 4 is also expected to bring more changes to the Phone interface "and other changes," reads the article...

Apple seeds second OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 beta to developers

Apple has seeded the second OS X 10.9.2 beta to registered Mac developers this afternoon. The release comes nearly a month after the first beta, which was posted on December 19.

The new build is available to registered developers through the Software Update tab in the Mac App Store, or as a full download via the Mac section of Apple’s online developer portal…

New in iOS 7.1: remove over-the-air installer from your device

I'm still flabbergasted that many non-techies are totally oblivious to over-the-air iOS updates. I mean, I've seen way too many iPhones out there with a badge on the Settings icon denoting a pending iOS update.

When asked why they didn't act on the notification, the normals usually respond that they couldn't figure out what it was so they just left it sitting there, consuming valuable storage space.

Turns out that the upcoming iOS 7.1 includes a new feature which allows you to delete these over-the-air installation files from your device without applying the update, in order to free up storage space for apps and media...

BiteSMS 8.0 beta 7 is out with support for iPhone 5s

Great news for biteSMS fans with late-model iPhones this morning. BiteSMS 8.0 beta 7 has been released to the public, and in addition to a handful of bug fixes and user interface improvements, the update brings about support for the iPhone 5s.

The beta has actually been out for almost two weeks now, but due to complications with the 64-bit A7 processor, it has thus far been limited to older devices. That changes today though, and now 5s users can finally enjoy the biteSMS app on iOS 7...

Unofficial modified version of Evasi0n7 can jailbreak iOS 7.1 beta 3

A modified version of the Evasi0n7 jailbreak tool began making its rounds around the internet this afternoon. This unofficial version of Evasi0n7 was created in order to jailbreak the just released iOS 7.1 beta 3.

One of the first things I tried when iOS 7.1 beta 3 dropped was run the latest official version of Evasi0n7. I was quickly (and unsurprisingly I might add) met with an error message stating: Sorry, the version of iOS (11D5127c) of the attached device is not supported.

You can probably tell where this post is going. Indeed, I decided to take the plunge and see if the "unofficial" version of Evasi0n7 could legitimately jailbreak iOS 7.1 beta 3. After about 15 minutes of testing, I can state that the answer to that question is yes.

Although we definitely can't, and frankly don't recommend that anyone use an unofficial version of the Evasi0n jailbreak tool, we aren't naive, and we know that many are going to simply do it anyway. For that reason, we felt it might be beneficial to verify whether or not the tool works. Have a look inside for the proof.

With today's release of iOS 7.1 beta 3, many people feared that exploits used in the evasi0n7 jailbreak would be patched. As it appears, and even though evasi0n7 cannot jailbreak iOS 7.1 beta 3 as is, Apple didn't patch evasi0n7.

Although official members of the evad3rs still have to talk about it, the news has been confirmed by hacker iH8sn0w in a recent tweet...

FlipControlCenter is the obvious iOS 7 tweak that we’ve all been waiting for

It's been a busy day to me, so I was admittedly late to get to FlipControlCenter after its release earlier today. When I first saw Cody's post, I knew that this tweak would be a part of my nightly recap before heading off to bed. Well, I just tried FlipControlCenter for myself, and I can tell you that it works like a dream, even in its beta state, and even with the underlying issues with Mobile Substrate.

Ryan Petrich is simply the king when it comes to tweaks of this type—or any tweak or app for that matter. FlipControlCenter might seem like the obvious answer to Apple's lack of customization options for Control Center, and for the most part it is. But the tweak delivers on its simplicity and "just works" design. Full video walkthrough inside.
