References to Touch ID iPad and settings for Apple Pay found in iOS 8.1 beta

References to new iPad models with Touch ID support and a settings page for Apple Pay have been discovered hidden in the just-released beta of iOS 8.1. Developer Hamza Sood posted the evidence on Twitter this evening, in the form of three screenshot images.

The first two images, which you can see above, show a new Passbook pane in the Settings app for setting up Apple Pay, as well as a Privacy Policy page for the new mobile payment service. In the page, Apple outlines what user data it collects, and what it does with it.

Apple releases first beta of iOS 8.1 to developers

Apple has seeded the first beta of iOS 8.1 to developers this afternoon, with build number 12B401. The release comes just a few days after the company posted iOS 8.0.2, and just a few hours after reports surfaced claiming that multiple iOS 8 updates were in the works.

Apple seeds Developer Preview 8, Public Beta 3 of OS X Yosemite

Nearly two weeks after releasing the last beta, Apple has today seeded Developer Preview 8 of OS X Yosemite. The update, version 8 1.0, is available for download to users currently running DP 7 in the Mac App Store, as well as in Apple’s online developer center.

Additionally, Apple has released Public Beta 3 for OS X Yosemite. The Public Beta program began in July, and received its second update late last month. If you're a member of the program, you can find today's release in the 'Updates' tab of the Mac App Store.

Apple seeds iOS 8 GM to developers

As expected, Apple has seeded the GM (or Golden Master) version of iOS 8 to developers today, ahead of its public September 17th release. Registered developers can grab the new beta from either the online dev portal as a standalone download.

BGR: iOS 8.0.1 with ‘further enhancements’ in the works

With four days until Apple's big reveal and the impending public launch of iOS 8, the Cupertino firm is already preparing the first iOS 8.0.1 update, BGR reported Friday. The software contains unspecified "further improvements" and Apple is going to seed it to its carrier and testing partners shortly. Note that BGR has a pretty solid track record in predicting carrier-related news.

Just recently, the site correctly claimed that the current iOS 8 Beta 5 would be the final beta released to developers ahead of a Gold Master. Indeed, the iPhone maker last month exclusively released iOS 8 Beta 6 to carrier partners for testing ahead of the iOS 8 launch.

Apple sending out AppleSeed invites for Windows iCloud beta

Apple has begun sending out invitations to AppleSeed members this afternoon for a new iCloud for Windows Beta. Introduced at WWDC in June, the app includes iCloud Drive, a new feature that allows you to store and access any file type from any iOS device, Mac or PC.

AppleSeed members who receive the invites must have a PC running Windows 7 or later to participate in the beta, and must accept the terms and conditions. Those who receive the invitation but don't meet the aforementioned requirements can simply ignore the e-mail.

64-bit Chrome for Mac in the works, test drive the beta now

The search giant Google yesterday posted the first beta of the upcoming Chrome for Mac browser with 64-bit support, following the public release of 64-bit Chrome for Windows earlier this week.

The 64-bit edition of Chrome for Mac was first made available for testing purposes to early adopters earlier this month, via the Mac edition of Chrome Canary.

For those unfamiliar with it, Chrome Canary is an experimental Chrome version for testing upcoming new features in their earliest form, and before they make their way into the beta and then the stable channel.

Mac users on the Chrome beta channel should have been updated to a new 64-bit version of Chrome 38 for Mac. If not, you can download your copy direct from Google and start reaping the benefits of 64-bit browsing.

OS X Yosemite Public Beta 2 and new iTunes 12 build now available

Apple has just released the second version of the OS X Yosemite Public Beta and a new beta build of the thoroughly overhauled iTunes 12 for Yosemite.

The second public Yosemite beta arrives after the first public beta was made available at the end of last month and is basically the same as OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 6 seeded to Apple's registered developers last week.

Both updates are available to download through the Mac App Store for those who've applied for the OS X Beta Program...

Here’s why Beta 5 may be the final iOS 8 build seeded to devs ahead of Gold Master

Yesterday's release of OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 6 with an additional five gorgeous wallpapers and a bunch of refinements has left many eagle-eyed watchers scratching their head over the fact that the assumed iOS 8 Beta 6 wouldn't materialize.

Indeed, fast-forward nearly twenty-four hours later and Beta 6 is still nowhere to be seen. Such an anticlimactic turn of events probably means that iOS 8 Beta 5, which was released a fortnight ago, is the final beta build seeded to developers ahead of the so-called Gold Mater release...

Apple releases OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 6

Apple has released the sixth Developer Preview of its new OS X Yosemite operating system this morning. The update comes exactly two weeks after Preview 5, and over two months after Apple first announced Yosemite during its Developer Conference in June.

The update is labeled as build preview 6 1.0 and can be downloaded via the Mac App Store, or as a full download from Apple’s online developer center. It does not, however, appear to be out in Apple’s recently-launched public Yosemite Beta Seed program yet…

Apple begins adding Family Sharing support info to select App Store listings

Apple has been spotted adding support info for its upcoming Family Sharing feature to both iOS and Mac App Store listings. The data can be seen in the Information section of select apps (where it lists Seller, Category, etc.), under a new field called 'Family Sharing.'

For those unfamiliar with it, Family Sharing is a new feature built-in to iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite that will allow families to share content like apps, music, movies, and more across all of their iOS devices, as long as their iTunes accounts are all using the same credit card...

Apple seeds iOS 8 beta 5 to developers: here is what’s new

Coming two weeks after the last iOS beta, which contained several visual tweaks and changes to Settings.app, Apple has released iOS 8 beta 5 build 12A4345d to developers. Besides the usual mix of bug fixes and improvements, there are likely to be multiple UI tweaks and other noticeable changes. Apple has more details in beta 5's release notes.
