If you ever wanted to buy a cellular iPad but couldn't wrap your head around forking out an extra $130 for LTE functionality, AT&T has you covered.

Here at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the #2 U.S. wireless carrier announced a new case that gives Wi-Fi-only iPads the ability to connect to its high-speed 4G LTE network.

It's basically a case with an integrated mobile LTE hotspot and it's available in several editions, including versions for the iPad Air and iPad Air 2, as well as all three generations of the iPad mini.

AT&T is out with Emoji Carols

In time for the holidays, carrier AT&T unveiled Emoji Carols and it's exactly what it sounds like.

Teaming up with its favorite marketing agency, BBDO Atlanta, good ol' Ma Bell has created the Emoji Carols website which aims to allow anyone to emojify their favorite holiday songs with their own personalized emoji characters.

The nicely done web app invites you to customize your emoji by selecting hair, eyes, nose, skin color and mouth, each available in several pre-made variants that you can select and combine with each other.

Sprint will cut your wireless bill in half if you switch from AT&T or Verizon

You know holidays are around the corner when greedy carriers start putting out promotions offering substantial savings and other perks if you jump ship. Announced on Tuesday, Sprint's new promotion promises to cut your wireless bill in half if you switch to Sprint from AT&T or Verizon Wireless beginning Friday, December 5, for as long as you remain on the Sprint plan.

Plus, Sprint will buy out your contract up to $350 per line. “You’ll get unlimited talk and text to anywhere in the U.S. and we’ll match your data,” the carrier teased. As an example, a Verizon customer paying $140 per month for four lines and ten gigs of data can get four lines and the same ten gigs of data on Sprint for $70 per month, or half the Verizon's price.

AT&T bumps 10GB Mobile Share plan to 15GB in limited time promo

AT&T announced a new promotion today regarding its Mobile Share Value plans. The limited-time offer gives qualified customers 15GB of monthly shareable data, for the price of 10GB, which typically runs $100 per month plus device access charges.

The change puts AT&T's 15GB plan on-par price-wise with Verizon's 15GB More Everything share plan, which also runs $100 per month plus access charges. These access charges for both plans run $40 per device, unless you subscribe to Next or Edge.

AT&T says it’s no longer tracking subscribers using perma-cookies

AT&T told the Associated Press on Friday that it is no longer using permanent cookies to track its subscribers. In late October, security researchers discovered that the carrier, along with its competitor Verizon, were using unique identifying numbers or "perma-cookies" to track their customers online habits.

A spokesperson for AT&T said that the tracking practice was part of a pilot program to improve targeted marketing called "Relevant Advertising." But it says that the experiment is over, and it has pulled the identifying numbers from their customers' accounts, although it may still sell the data it's collected.

AT&T offering $50 bill credit for iPhone upgrades purchased through Apple

AT&T is right now offering a $50 bill credit to Next customers who purchase a new iPhone from Apple's online and retail stores within the next two months. Neither company is actively marketing the promotion, but, as spotted by MacRumors, it does appear in the fine print of AT&T's Next plan.

All late model iPhones qualify for the deal, including the 5c, 5s, 6 and 6 Plus, but there are stringent requirements. The iPhone must be purchased on an existing line as an upgrade, it must be financed using AT&T's Next plan, and it must remain active and in good standing on Next for 45 days.

AT&T acquiring Mexican carrier Iusacell for $2.5 Billion

AT&T on Friday announced that it is set to acquire Mexican carrier Iusacell for a total of $2.5 billion, including debt. The two companies have entered into an agreement, which will occur once investor group Grupo Salinas completes its own ongoing acquisition of Iusacell.

The plan, AT&T says, is to expand Iusacell coverage beyond its already near-9 million subscriber base in Mexico. The carrier sees a large potential for growth in the country thanks to recent competitive-friendly changes made to wireless regulations by President Peña Nieto.

AT&T’s new Next 24 plan lets you pay off your iPhone in 30 months

Joining the existing Next 12 and Next 18 plans, U.S. wireless carrier AT&T at Tuesday's AT&T Consumer Industry Analyst Conference took the wraps off its new Next 24 plan which allows customers to take 30 months to pay for their iPhone (or other smartphone) in monthly installments beginning November 9.

Just like the Next 12 and Next 18 plans which allow subscribers to pay off their device in 20 and 24 months, respectively, the Next 24 plan upgrades you to a new device after 30 months have passed and you've brought in your current smartphone in good condition.

As a bonus, the carrier also announced a $150 bill credit for switchers who activate a new line of service with a smartphone on AT&T Next.

AT&T and Verizon announce VoLTE interoperability for 2015

In a joint press release today, AT&T and Verizon announced their voice over LTE (or VoLTE) interoperability plans for 2015. The companies say they are working to allow customers from the two carriers to make VoLTE calls between each of their networks.

Engineers from Verizon and AT&T have begun extensive testing in lab environments and then plan on moving to field trials. "This approach ensures customers will have a seamless experience making VoLTE HD Voice calls between networks," the release said.

Shared AT&T plans get more LTE data, unlimited international messaging for no additional cost

The nation's second-largest carrier, AT&T, said on Friday that it will be increasing monthly data allotments for two of its Mobile Share Value plans.

Beginning Sunday, November 2, Mobile Share Value customers will get three gigabytes of high-speed 4G LTE data for $40 a month instead of two gigabytes.

In addition, customers on a pricer tier will be treated  to six gigabytes for $70 a month instead of four gigabytes like before.

Furthermore, all Mobile Share Value plans now get unlimited international messaging for text, picture and video for no additional cost.

Activating Apple SIM on AT&T locks it to their network

Just a heads up for folks looking to get a Wi-Fi + Cellular version of one of the new iPads. It was discovered on Friday that the awesome new Apple SIM feature, which is supposed to allow you to switch seamlessly between compatible carriers, doesn't play well with all providers.

More specifically, MacRumors points to an Apple support page that says when you activate your new iPad with AT&T, the carrier dedicates its Apple SIM to their network only. So if you wanted to move the tablet to another provider, you'd have to purchase and install a new SIM.
