Continuing with the festivities for the Macintosh's 30th anniversary, ABC News is set to air an interview with Apple CEO Tim Cook on its World News program with Diane Sawyer tomorrow evening.

Apple execs talk Mac’s 30th anniversary, future of OS X and iOS, and more

In honor of the 30th anniversary of the unveiling of the original Macintosh, which happens to be tomorrow, Macworld has published a lengthy interview with three Apple executives to discuss a wide range of topics regarding the popular computer.

In the discussion, Apple's SVP of Marketing Phil Schiller, SVP of Software Engineering Craig Federighi, and VP of Software Technology Bud Tribble talk about where the Mac has been, and where it's going. And as usual, we've posted some highlights...

Carnage racing game Carmageddon goes free for a day

Stainless Games unleashed Carmageddon on the App Store back in October 2012 and today it goes free as the App of the Day app. This classic carnage racing game has earned its notoriety way back in 1997, when the original PC release caused quite a commotion among the purists and censors due to its graphical violence.

The iOS version has been toned down a bit to placate Apple's censors, though you can still run over pedestrians who stay out on the streets at their peril. And watch out for the cops in their super-tough armored patrol vehicles...

New features added to Keynote, Pages and Numbers for iOS/OS X, iMovie gets bug fixes

Apple is on a roll today in terms of software updates. The company has just seeded the third OS X 10.9.2 beta to its registered Mac developers and revamped Pages, Keynote and Numbers on the web (excuse me, iCloud) with a slew of new capabilities, including - finally! - password protection for your iWork documents. Earlier in the day, Apple has managed to post a minor Podcasts app refresh and a bug fix focused update to iMovie for Mac.

And now, new versions of Pages and Numbers for iOS and OS X have arrived plus an enhanced version of Apple's presentation software Keynote with new transitions, improved presenter display options, better Microsoft PowerPoint and iCloud compatibility and more.

These software updates allow for a nice feature parity across Apple's iWork suite of apps on the web, iOS and OS X platforms...

Apple seeds third OS X 10.9.2 beta to developers

Apple has seeded the third OS X 10.9.2 beta to registered Mac developers this afternoon. The release comes just one week after the second beta, suggesting Apple is honing in on a final version.

The new build is available to registered Mac developers through the Software Update tab in the Mac App Store, or as a full download via the Mac section of Apple’s online developer portal…

‘Where’s My Mickey?’ goes free as Apple’s App of the Week

Apple has named Disney's popular 'Where's My Mickey' game its App of the Week for this week. This means that through next Thursday, you’ll be able to pick up the application for both your iPhone and iPad, for free—saving you a buck.

For those unfamiliar with the game, it's very similar to the hit 'Where's My Water' title in that it sees players trying to get water from one end of a level to the other. The only really difference is that this one features Mickey and the gang...

Apple updates iWork for iCloud with iOS 7 design, new features and more

Apple posted a major update for its iWork for iCloud app suite today. The web versions of Pages, Keynote, and Numbers all received a makeover with a flattened, iOS 7-inspired design, a handful of new features, and various other improvements.

Among the new features is the ability to add passwords to iWork documents, and to share those password-protected documents with others. You can also now view a master list of iWork documents that others have shared with you, and more...

Podcasts app gets pull-to-refresh subscriptions in My Podcasts

Apple has issued a maintenance update to its Podcasts app for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices. The new 2.0.1 edition, now available free in the App Store, brings a handy pull to refresh feature allowing you to pull down on the My Subscriptions screen in order to manually refresh your subscriptions. Additionally, this version of Podcasts brings a few other fixes, listed right after the break...

Rumor: Apple TV to get controller support and App Store of its own in March

Being an avid gamer, this is one rumor I've been waiting for for years now. According to iLongue, a blog with somewhat mixed track record, Apple's $99 set-top box is about to receive a proper support for wireless Bluetooth game controllers.

There'll also be an Apple TV App Store of sorts that'll offer downloadable full HD games.

The best part: these new features are said to arrive via a software update, indicating that existing third-generation Apple TVs might be able to run games and use controllers...

Wireless Stratus SteelSeries iOS controller now available with lower $80 price tag

We first caught glimpses of the Stratus SteelSeries iOS gaming controller earlier this month at CES 2014. The device has immediately captured our attention because it filed as the first Bluetooth-enabled wireless gaming controller for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices running iOS 7.

Previous controllers like Moga's Ace Power and Logitech's PowerShell incorporate the so-called form-fitting design where your device must be docked into the controller itself.

Surprisingly enough, Stratus has now slashed the SteelSeries from the original $99.99 price tag to a $20 lower and more bearable $79.99 price point. The company has assured that all $99.99 pre-orders will be honored at the lower price...

WSJ: two big iPhones this year, Apple to abandon plastic iPhone 5c design

Riding high on the iPhone 6 meme, The Wall Street Journal is reporting (or re-iterrating) that Apple will release two gaint-sized iPhone models this year and scrap the plastic iPhone 5c design. The new iPhones won't have curved-screens (thank God!) and shouldn't be expected this summer, as some misinformed analysts have said.

Contrary to some previous reports, the financial newspaper is expecting one of the big iPhones to include a screen measuring four and a half inches diagonally. The other phone should be what you'd call a phablet, a device featuring a five-inch screen...

Christmas Lumia sales collapse, Nokia schedules media event to – unveil Android device?

After reading a Forbes article two days ago highlighting 24 countries where Windows Phones outsells the iPhone - which disregards the fact that Microsoft is gaining traction in markets where the iPhone doesn’t compete because Windows Phone sales are most in the low-end - I wanted to write a reality check type of an article.

Today, both Nokia and Microsoft were served a reality check after the struggling Finnish handset maker reported a whopping 29 percent lower handset revenue in the Christmas quarter. Worse, sales are decelerating at an alarming clip: Nokia said it sold 8.2 million phones during the Christmas quarter versus Wall Street consensus of ten million units. And they only sold 30 million handsets during 2013.

The company has now scheduled a press conference at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in February amid persisting rumors of a budget Android phone with the Nokia logo on it, the ambitious project apparently code-named Normandy...
