Yahoo unveils LiveText, its new Snapchat-esque messaging app with text and silent video

As vaguely hinted yesterday, Yahoo held a press conference in New York City this morning to announce its brand new mobile product: a messaging app called LiveText.

The app recently soft-launched in HongKong, Taiwan and Ireland and is scheduled to roll out in more markets tomorrow, including the United States and the United Kingdom. Don't worry, we'll keep you updated as soon as it hits the US App Store.

LiveText promises to transform simple conversations into rich, fun and memorable experiences with text and live video, but without sound. It's very Snapchat-esque and you might be willing to give it a try.

Poll: will you continue using Apple Music past the trial period?

Apple Music has been available for a little more than a month now and the service already has dozens, if not hundreds of problems to complain about which have earned it mixed reviews from the press.

Apple Music's biggest advantage, its tight integration with the rest of the Apple ecosystem, is being erased for some amid a flurry of issues, ranging from disappearing music, issues with DRM, user interface inconsistencies and poor implementation in iTunes, to mention just a few.

You've heard the horror stories and have hopefully played long enough with Apple Music in order to make an informed decision as to whether or not you'll continue using it once the free three-month trial expires.

Breakthrough could bring 1,000 times faster flash storage with much longer lifespan to iPhone

Chip makers Intel and Micron today announced a major breakthrough in memory process technology which promises to increase the performance of NAND flash chips by a factor of 1,000.

The name of this game-changing technology is 3D Xpoint, pronounced as “crosspoint”. Not only does it enable 1,000 times faster performance, but has up to 1,000X greater endurance than NAND flash and is 10X denser than conventional memory.

By comparison, today's solid state drives typically offer between a hundred to up to a thousand times faster seek times versus traditional hard drive technology. Just don't count on Intel's new ultra-fast flash storage appearing in the next iPhone because a claimed logic board for an 'iPhone 6s' shows 19-nanometer flash memory chips by Toshiba.

The 5.5-inch Play, on the other hand, was designed to match most of the iPhone 6 Plus's innards. Both the Style and the Play blow iPhones out of the water with more advanced imaging features.
