Apple ‘frustrated’ by streaming TV challenges, says ESPN President

Apple is frustrated with the many challenges it has faced in trying to build its streaming TV service, reports The Wall Street Journal. The outlet recently sat down with ESPN president John Skipper, who said the iPhone-maker is finding it tough to create something that works for both them and programmers.

"They are creating a significantly advantageous operating system and a great television experience and that television experience is fabulous for sports," Mr. Skipper told the Journal. "We are big proponents of believing it would be a fabulous place to sell some subscriptions. We have ongoing conversations."

Apple releases OS X 10.11.3 El Capitan update

After spending more than a month in testing, Apple on Tuesday released the third major software update to OS X 10.11 El Capitan, its latest and greatest desktop operating system that was released for public consumption in October 2015.

Available through the Mac App Store's Updates tab, OS X 10.11.3 El Capitan update is now available for download on any Mac running a prior El Capitan version and is primarily a bug-fix release.

The new software is being deployed throughout Mac App Stores around the world so wait a little if you don't see it yet as these things take time to propagate.

LG Display increasing curved OLED production as rumors of OLED iPhones intensify

Multiple sources have been adamant over the course of past few months that Apple and its Asian suppliers have been making preparations to produce tens of millions of OLED panels for use in future iPhones.

Tuesday, Taiwan-based DigiTimes said, citing a report by Korea-based ET News, that LG Display, the lone supplier of flexible OLED screens for the Apple Watch, has begun ramping up curved OLED production amid rumors of the Apple OLED switch.

Since the iPhone's inception, Apple's mobile Safari browser has had this neat little feature for quickly jumping to the very top of any webpage simply by tapping the status bar.

Following a major redesign of Apple's mobile operating system with the 2013's release of iOS 7, Safari's top and bottom toolbars now shrink and disappear as you scroll down. As a result, you must scroll back up a bit to access the URL field, bookmarks and other features in the toolbars.

Spotify fans can now discover and save music playing overhead in U.S. Starbucks stores

Spotify and Starbucks on Tuesday announced a new partnership that permits visitors to identify music playing overhead in participating Starbucks stores.

The Sound of Starbucks, as it's called, also lets music lovers save identified songs to a playlist on Spotify.

This functionality and in-store overhead music experience is available starting today at select Starbucks location. The feature requires the latest version of the mobile Starbucks app and permission to use location services.

iPhone 7 could feature ultra-fast Li-Fi wireless technology, iOS code indicates

You can now put a new kind of ultra-fast wireless networking technology on your list of potential hardware advances that might be in tow for Apple's 'iPhone 7' refresh later this year.

As first spotted by Twitter user Chase Fromm, code strings in iOS indicate that Apple could be experimenting with an ultra-fast, light-based wireless data technology, dubbed Li-Fi.

In modulating visible light in a manner that is imperceptible to the human eye, Li-Fi promises a theoretical throughput capacity of up to 224 gigabits per second versus up to just a few gigabits per second for the current-generation 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard.

Apple wins US sales ban on outdated Samsung phones that are no longer sold

Following its multi-year patent spat with Samsung, Apple has finally won a United States sales ban on some older Samsung smartphones, FOSS Patents reported Tuesday.

The sales ban covers certain features of some Samsung phones, but the injunction is practically useless as it affects outdated devices, not the flagship Galaxy lineup, which are no longer available in the United States.

Microsoft’s Word Flow keyboard is coming to iOS

Windows giant Microsoft is porting its excellent predictive text keyboard for Windows Phone, dubbed Word Flow, over to the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

In an email to some Windows Insider testers, obtained by The Verge's Tom Warren, Microsoft invited iPhone users to participate in a trial of the Word Flow keyboard for iOS.

On Windows Phone, the Word Flow keyboard includes a number of advanced features such as autocorrect, suggestions, gestures, multi-language support, emoticons, the ability to swipe letters like in Swype's keyboard, and more.

It's annoying when you download an Apple TV app for your favorite entertainment provider only to realize that you cannot access the service due to regional restrictions, the need to connect with your cable service or pay for the service.

Of all the third-party content provider apps available for download in the tvOS App Store, only a handful of services are available on a worldwide basis.

How to remove iOS configuration profiles

Back in March 2013, security firm Skycure found that some configuration profiles on iOS pose a major security vulnerability because they use root certificates that might allow harmful software to bypass Apple's sandboxing rules and install on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.

Apple has since removed a few apps from the App Store that were found to install root certificates which could allow monitoring of data.

Still, the fact remains that configuration profiles could be exploited to compromise SSL/TLS security solutions. If you have a configuration profile installed on your device that's no longer use by apps, you should delete it in order to make sure your data remains protected.

In this tutorial, we're going to demonstrate how easy it is to delete iOS configuration profiles that are no longer needed, thereby increasing your security.
