Purported pricing for Apple Watch extended warranty leaks

While Apple did confirm during its second Apple Watch media event on March 9, 2015 that it will be offering its AppleCare+ extended coverage plan for the wearable device, it did not present pricing for the extended support plans tailored specifically to the Watch.

Friday, MacRumors shared some purported AppleCare+ pricing information for the Apple Watch models, obtained from a source. According to writer Juli Clover, AppleCare+ for each version of the Watch will be priced differently, with the gold-plated Apple Watch Edition commanding the highest premium in terms of extended warranty coverage.

Pairing Apple Watch with your iPhone shows unique certificate of authenticity

Before you can start using your Apple Watch, the device must be connected to your iPhone through the Apple Watch companion app, which got recently added to iOS 8.2.

And when you first pair the wrist-worn gizmo to your iPhone, it shows a unique certificate of authenticity, depending on your model, size and case.

I was re-reading yesterday excellent article by Wired on Apple Watch development when this cool little feature caught my eye so I thought it deserved a post of its own.

Force Touch on Apple Watch changes emoji color

American model and activist Christy Turlington-Burns has posted her third blog entry about on Apple’s website, revealing a few previously unknown tidbits about the Apple Watch.

The finding that caught my attention deals with Force Touch, a technology involving pressure-sensitive electrodes around the display that can distinguish between a touch and a press to show hidden options.

Among other things, it's possible to use Force Touch to easily change the color of animated emoji in instant messages.

Apple’s slick process for dealing with Watch purchases and walk-ins detailed

Contradicting a recent 9to5Mac report which said only try-on appointments will be possible come April 10, sources told The Mac Observer that the appointment-only process will reportedly accommodate walk-in purchases, using a system similar to one recently instituted at Genius Bars in Apple's real stores worldwide.

The Genius Bar will handle walk-ins by taking your phone number, allowing customers to run their errands and go about their business until they receive timely updates from the Genius Bar related to waiting times via SMS. Apple's already using this system to handle purchases and is reportedly intending to tap it for the Watch as well.

How Apple Watch was researched and developed

Kevin Lynch, who was a former Adobe executive in charge of the Flash platform before Apple poached him to lead Watch software development as its Vice President of Technology, has shared a number of interesting tidbits related to the years of Watch research and development in an extensive piece published by Wired on Thursday.

Apparently, Jony Ive and his design team presented an idea for a wrist-worn device during one of design meetings for iOS 7. Lynch, who was hired after the project was already underway, didn't even know what he would be working on at Apple.

The team spent more than a year adjusting the device's Taptic Engine to feel just right on your wrist, even sampling sounds from bell clappers and birds to lightsabers in an effort to turn them into physical sensations. And the device itself underwent many prototypes and iterations before Apple's Board signed off on it.

Following a barrage of editorials and photo shoots published by prominent lifestyle and fashion magazines around the world, Apple's wearable device has now graced the cover of the May issue of Flare, a Canadian fashion magazine, as first noticed by MacRumors.

The magazine's two separate covers feature Academy Award nominated actress Hailee Steinfeld who poses wearing an Apple Watch Sport in both Silver and Space Gray, accompanied by a featured article providing a closer look at the Watch's many features outside of the usual timekeeping and health and fitness tracking functions.

If you ever wondered how the Apple Watch's tiny screen might lend itself to news consumption, one possible answer came Tuesday as The New York Times newspaper announced one-sentence stories designed specifically for the Apple Watch.

It's like the ultimate news summarization technology, only curated fully by human editors and copywriters. This new form of storytelling should help readers “catch up in seconds” on Apple's wearable device.

New details surface on Apple Watch sales process

The Apple Watch sales process and purchasing experience will be more elaborate and exquisite than originally thought, according to internal training documents seen by Arnold Kim, who runs MacRumors.

Apple is revamping its retail stores ahead of April 10 Watch pre-orders and try-on appointments and has detailed in an internal brochure for retail staff the various process for both customers and employees, including playing with different bands, trying on demo units and more.

We also got our first good look at special display cases for the Watch that will be installed in Apple Stores and learn about other interesting details surrounding the shopping experience as Apple has envisioned it.

Apple Watch won’t be highly regulated by FDA

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is taking a light, “almost hands-off” approach, to wearable devices like the Apple Watch that encompass non-essential health-related functions, Bloomberg reported Monday.

Apple's Watch and other new products from other vendors can be developed without aggressive regulation as the agency doesn't want to stand in the way of any technology that can motivate a person to stay healthy.
