Google today pushed an update to its native Maps app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, adding a pair of new features whilst bumping version number to 4.25.0. Like with Apple Maps, Google's app now supports searching for points of interest along your route while in navigation mode. In addition, you can also see traffic information on your Home/Lock screen and in the Notification Center with a handy new Nearby Traffic widget.

Snapseed for iOS gains white balancing tool, RAW format improvements & UI tweaks
Google-owned Snapseed, the popular image editing app, was updated Wednesday on the App Store with a trio of improvements bringing the app's version to 2.13. The first change tweaks the user interface to make it easier and simpler to select and change filter parameters.
The second new feature is basically the dedicated tool which got launched on Android a while ago that lets you adjust white balance of your images.
The last feature is a correction for developing RAW files with embedded color profiles.
YouTube for iOS now lets you see how far you made it through videos
Google today refreshed YouTube for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to let you see far you made it through the videos. YouTube 11.45 for iOS, a free download from the App Store, puts a handy progress bar on the previously watched thumbnails within the app's watched history section. In addition, partially watched videos will now resume from where you left off. No other changes or improvements were spotted in today's update to YouTube for iOS.

Photo-sharing service Instagram today announced a staggered roll out of a pair of major new features in its mobile apps for iPhone and Android smartphones: one is the previously hinted live video functionality in Stories and the other gives you the ability to send and receive auto-disappearing photos and videos for groups and friends in Direct.
Twitter for iPhone and iPad gains support for rich notifications on iOS 10
Twitter for iPhone and iPad, a free download from the App Store, now supports rich notifications on iOS 10 that come complete with embedded images and the usual options for interacting with tweets without having to open the app.
Pressing a rich Twitter notification on the Lock screen or in the Notification Center with 3D Touch pulls up an expanded view of the tweet with an enlarged image thumbnail, along with the usual options such as Like and Retweet.
Google revamps Play Newsstand, adds For You recommendations, rich media, web app & more
Google earlier this week announced a major overhaul of the its magazine and news reader, Play Newsstand. The new version of the iPhone and iPad app sports a new app icon and provides a refreshed user interface alongside a few new “smart” features.
These include a personalized news briefing, a “For You” stream of personalized stories, support for rich media in articles, tab-based navigation and other perks.
Workflow updated with redesigned UI, search, profiles, and more
Popular iOS automation app Workflow received an update on Thursday that introduced a redesign across the app with a number of improvements. A redesigned onboarding system greets new users with a friendly introduction to the app, while the Gallery has received a number of additions for helping both Workflow newbies and veterans discover new flows.
WhatsApp rolls out end-to-end encrypted video calling
Facebook-owned WhatsApp announced yesterday that it had begun rolling out video calling to the more than one billion users it claims across iOS, Android and Windows Phone platforms around the world.
According to TechCrunch, video calls on WhatsApp are end-to-end encrypted just like with FaceTime in order to prevent rogue parties from eavesdropping on your communications.
WhatsApp previously rolled out end-to-end encryption for chats. “We obviously try to be in tune with what our users want,” WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum told Reuters. “We're obsessed with making sure that voice and video work well even on low-end phones.”

1Password now supports Touch ID and Touch Bar on the new MacBook Pro
After previewing a new version of its popular password-management utility, developer AgileBits today updated 1Password for Mac with support for the Touch Bar and Touch ID features on the new MacBook Pro (that you can't have yet).
The update is free to existing users of the $64.99 Mac app. 1Password can now be unlocked by resting your finger on the Touch ID sensor that's built into the new MacBook Pro's Touch Bar.
In addition, you can access your vaults faster by tapping the app's dedicated shortcuts on the Touch Bar.
Instagram update brings Boomerang features, mentions and links in Stories
You no longer need to have Instagram's standalone Boomerang app installed on your iOS device to create looping videos: thanks to the latest Instagram update that went live on the App Store today, Boomerang features are now available to you from within Instagram 9.7 for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Instagram for iOS also includes other enhancements, such as support for @mentions and links in Stories.
