AT&T offers more LTE in random places

U.S. wireless carrier AT&T today announced that its fourth-generation Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network is rolling out to the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, as part of its ongoing rollout across the market which began with 4G LTE launch in Jefferson City in April.

Customers located in parts of Camdenton, Eldon, Gravois Mills, Lake Ozark, Laurie, Linn Creek, Osage Beach, Sunrise Beach and Versailles should now start seeing LTE logos on their devices such as Apple's iPhones, after upgrading to AT&T's speedy service.

China Mobile iPhone launch should be imminent

Ahead of September's double iPhone launch, the Wall Street Journal reported Apple had finally inked a sought-after deal with China Mobile to distribute the iconic smartphone. Indeed, TENAA, the Chinese equivalent of the United States Federal Communications Commission, has made public documents pertaining to both new iPhones.

Specifically, the filings mention GSM-enabled TD-LTE radios inside the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, proving Apple had in fact been given a network license for China Mobile's third and fourth-generation cellular services.

As Apple's existing carrier partners China Unicom and China Telecom use the more common CDMA variants (CDMA2000 or WCDMA), these TD-LTE network licenses are the strongest indication that China Mobile, the world's largest telco with 704+ million subscribers, may offer the iPhone 5s/5c real soon...

AT&T rolls out LTE to 11 new markets

Last month, AT&T hit some major milestones in its LTE rollout. As of early September its 4G network covered over 240 million people, in over 400 markets. And it's not showing any signs of slowing down.

The carrier announced another major expansion of its LTE network this week, flipping the proverbial switch on in 11 new markets. These areas are scattered throughout the US, so check the list after the fold...

AT&T iPhone and iPad customers will be happy to hear that the carrier has rolled out LTE to 9 brand new markets this week. The 4G tech allows for download speeds of up to 10x that of the average 3G network.

Folks with an AT&T smartphone or other LTE-flavored device should notice substantially faster download speeds in the new markets, which include cities in Texas, Washington and Nevada. Full list after the fold...

iPhone 5s/5c will support 4G LTE on UK’s O2 and Three, carriers confirm

Apple's new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c can work on more than thirteen different LTE bands, "more than any other single model of smartphone," per Apple. Whereas last year's iPhone 5 launched in a hundred countries across 240 different carriers, 2013 iPhones will be released on an additional 30 carriers, bringing the number of world carriers which carry Apple's device to 270. Now, there's been some commotion whether or not the handset's updated LTE capabilities support 4G LTE flavors of United Kingdom's O2 and Three carriers...

Apple nows offers a single iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c version for AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile

As we continue to uncover interesting tidbits following Apple's introduction of the flagship iPhone 5s and the plastic iPhone 5c this morning, a little-appreciated fact has now come to light. Both new iPhones are offered in four different hardware varieties each versus three different cellular versions of the iPhone 5.

The consolidated 5s/5c models offer more LTE bands than before, but the coolest thing is that in the United States a single version now supports AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile. Additionally, a different version of the handsets will provide compatibility with Sprint and Japan's KDDI and Softbank carriers.

Previously, there used to be two different US flavors of the iPhone 5, one for the AT&T and T-Mobile and the other for Verizon and Sprint networks...

Deutsche Telekom hints iPhone 5S could support LTE Advanced

There has been little, if any, confirmation regarding the next iPhone's improvements in the cellular radio technology department, which hasn't stopped pundits from speculating whether or not the iPhone 5S features support for the ultra-fast LTE Advanced standard, also known as LTE-A or simply LTE+.

Samsung notably promised to offer an updated version of the Galaxy S4 with LTE+ soon and now a cryptic comment by Deutsche Telekom suggests the iPhone 5S could in fact work with the latest cellular networking technology that offers at least twice the download speeds of the current-generation LTE standard...

Verizon to pay Vodafone $130 billion for its 45% stake in Verizon Wireless

Verizon has reached an agreement with Vodafone to purchase its 45% stake in Verizon Wireless for roughly $130 billion, according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal. The outlet says that the deal isn't final yet, but it could be announced as soon as Monday.

The acquisition would be the second-largest ever of its kind, coming in about $40 billion behind another Vodafone deal—a $172 billion buyout of Mannesmann AG in 1999—and would cement Verizon's control of the biggest wireless carrier in the US by subscriber base...

AT&T to roll out LTE to 50 new markets by the end of 2013

AT&T subscribers will be happy to hear that the carrier has just announced that it will be rolling out its LTE network to 50 new markets by the end of the year. It hopes to finish out 2013 with LTE in 420 cities and towns.

The news comes as the company finishes up its large-scale summer LTE expansion of 78 markets. In fact, it'll round out its itinerary this week as it launches the 4G service in Georgetown, SC and several other areas...

Despite falling behind rival Verizon Wireless in terms of the deployment of the fourth-generation Long-Term Evolution (LTE) cellular radio technology, AT&T's LTE is still the fastest and most reliable.

As for coverage, the nation's second-largest telco a week ago flipped the switch on LTE in ten new markets. This was just a week after the company had added seven new cities to the list of LTE-supported markets.

Looks like those weekly updates are becoming a thing for the telco as it announces expanded LTE coverage is now available in Washington, D.C. and San Francisco, with six new markets now LTE-friendly...

Just a week after adding seven new markets, the nation's second-largest telco today announced its fourth-generation Long-Term Evolution (LTE) wireless service is now available in an additional ten U.S. cities.

With Verizon's LTE now blanketing 500+ markets, AT&T certainly has some catching up to do. Customers in select cities located in the U.S. states of Oklahoma, Massachusets, Georgia, Arkansas and West Virginia should start experiencing increased download speeds using their LTE-enabled gear...
