iOS 4.3 Protects Against Accidental In-App Purchases

Apple's iOS 4.3 has been making headlines for weeks. From iTunes Home Sharing to mobile hotspot, new features keep pouring out of Apple's latest iOS update. With so many big changes, it's easy for the smaller firmware tweaks to go unnoticed. One of those features, which I was glad to see added, is a required password reentry for in app purchases.

In previous versions of iOS, in app purchases did require a password, but with one major drawback. Apple gave users a 15 minute window after password authentication to make in app purchases. This window was to prevent a choppy App Store experience, especially for users purchasing multiple items. What was so wrong then, that they went and changed it?

Adobe Announces “Wallaby”, Converts Flash To HTML5

One of the major features iOS lacks is Adobe Flash support. While Apple had decided to take a completely different path using HTML5, Flash still (for now), dominates internet content.

But that isn't keeping Adobe away. Late last night, Adobe announced a new prototype software for iOS devices, codenamed, "Wallaby". "Wallaby" is a new Flash-to-HTML5 conversion tool which doesn't do much yet. Wallaby currently only converts typical banner ads to HTML5, noted Adobe...

iPhone 5 to Have Aluminum Back and New Antenna Design?

Apple originally used a plastic back for the iPhone, then they switched to a glass backing for the iPhone 4. The glass back coupled with the antenna issues in the iPhone 4 did not bear well for the device, and it appears that Apple is considering using an aluminum back for the iPhone 5.

A report from the Taiwanese Economic Daily News claims that Apple is abandoning the glass backing from the iPhone 5 in favor of a stronger aluminum covering. The source also suggests that Apple's new antenna will be inside the device's rear Apple logo...

Apple Looking to Improve Voice Control Options in Their iOS

Voice commands, and even more specifically voice to text, has been a feature that Apple has kind of ignored up to this point on its iOS devices. It's also a feature that has certainly been a big hit with Google, and their Android customers. Sure Apple has given us Voice Control and the App Store may have several voice to text applications for the iPhone, but it would be so much better if it was built into the OS.

Well it looks like Apple might be after just that.  AppleInsider has discovered multiple job postings over at Apple.com that hint at some plans to give their ever popular iOS some major upgrades. The one in particular that stands out is the iOS Speech Operations Engineer posting, as current voice command options in iOS are lacking...
