Photos show Apple’s new dock connector compared to micro USB

Among the many changes we're expecting to see in the next-generation iPhone, the new dock connector is one of the most interesting. This will be the first time Apple has changed up the handset's port since its inception.

We don't know much about the new connector other than that we think it has 9 pins. And according to these new photos of what is believed to be the sync cable for the new iPhone, it's about the same size as a standard micro USB...

Apple researching new haptic feedback technology

Just hours before Apple unveiled its third-generation iPad this year, a report came out suggesting that the tablet could feature some sort of new haptic "touch-feedback" display.

Obviously, the story never materialized. But as it turns out, Apple is looking into it. The company has had over 4 patents published this year on haptics, including this one...

iPhone 5 unlikely to feature Audience’s noise reduction tech

File this one under "odd." A theory started floating around earlier this year regarding why Siri was limited to the iPhone 4S. It had something to do with a noise reduction technology from Audience, called "EarSmart," which allowed the phone to pickup sound from a couple of feet away.

But according to a recent press release from Audience, it doesn't look like the company's EarSmart technology is going to make it into the next iPhone. It says that due to events that occurred over the last few weeks, it feels it's "unlikely" that Apple will use the tech in its new smartphone...

Samsung and Apple duke it out over whose multitouch is better

The Apple v. Samsung mega-suit may be behind us, but the legal spat between the two frenemies is far from over. Both companies are embroiled in complicated litigation spread across ten countries the world over. In a Hague, Netherlands court, for example, Samsung locked horns with Apple over who copied who concerning multitouch technology.

Samsung resorted to some interesting tactics there, claiming that its multitouch implementation is less capable than Apple's in an effort to prove it didn't breach any of Apple's many patents related to multitouch...

Shit Apple fanboys say, Part 2

We like how Scott Rose nailed it in Part 1. This is even better. If you recognize yourself saying any of these things, you're officially Apple's bitch.

Hey, we can laugh at ourselves, right? My favorite: "“Don’t listen to Woz, he’s crazy”.

Fresh blueprints depict iSpaceship’s sophisticated interior

Apple’s spectacular all-glass iSpaceship building, officially known as Campus 2 and meant to be a research campus, is massive, breathtaking and just downright amazing. We previously marveled at its beautiful curved design depicted in technical drawings, official filings and high-resolution.

Now, a fresh set of drawings surfaced and they're beautiful. These blueprints include various close ups of the building's exterior details and its exquisite interior. Boy, would I want to board a Mothership like this...

Colorful banners go up at Yerba Buena Center, perhaps alluding to new iPods?

First set of blurry snaps depicting preparations over at the San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts building in San Francisco hit the web last evening. Just this moment, another batch of images arrived, showing workers dressing up the building in colorful banners.

The design of these banners could mean nothing, but then again - this is Apple and the colors are surely meant to convey a certain message.

Colors for the next iPhone? Hardly, if you ask me. Instead, the nicely done banner graphics could be a subtle hint at the lively colors the refreshed iPods are thought to be provided in, thus indicating that next Wednesday's media event may not necessarily be iPhone-exclusive as previously thought...

Apple named on Fortune’s list of fastest growing companies

Apple is on a bit of a roll right now. With its new iPhone event just a few days away, and rumors of a smaller iPad still swirling about, the company's stock surged past $680 per share this morning for the first time ever.

And don't count on Apple slowing down anytime soon. With more than 10 new products expected by the end of the year, and more in the works, Fortune just named Apple number 8 on its list of fastest growing companies...

Airlines reportedly scramble to support iOS 6 Passbook mobile boarding passes

Some airlines are already implementing support for mobile boarding passes via the brand new Passbook app in iOS 6, a newspaper report has it. Specifically, a Virgin Australia traveller says the system recognized the digital boarding pass from Safari, putting up a prompt asking him to save the digital ticket to the iOS 6 Passbook app. If Virgin Australia is already implementing support for Apple's new ".pkpass" mime type, chances are that other airlines are also doing so, especially with the next Wednesday's iPhone 5 announcement and the subsequent public release of iOS 6 approaching fast...

New iPods: 8 colors, new touches and tweaked nanos

With fall just around the corner, Apple is expected to refresh its entire iPod lineup, per tradition. Of course, we've yet to see whether the company choose to announce new models at next week's event related to the next iPhone or during a rumored October unveiling of mini iPad or perhaps at a separate media event.

Now, a new report out this morning offers a bunch of interesting tidbits regarding the direction the venerable iPod brand may be taking in 2012. The crux of the story includes a tweaked iPod shuffle, new iPod nano, and new iPod touches and here are the details...

Fox says new iMacs are “imminent”, but will they go Retina?

The iMac, Apple's ultimate all-in-one desktop, could be refreshed alongside the next iPhone five days from today, or perhaps in October alongside a rumored smaller iPad or maybe even later - but quite possibly by Christmas the latest.

Regardless of a launch date, new iMacs are said to be "imminent", if you believe Fox News reporter Clayton Morris who issued a report based on unnamed sources that signified Apple's next-generation iMac lineup is ready to go. Be that as it may, I'm wondering whether Apple plans to throw in an all-new Retina iMac model to make things a tad more interesting...

DisplaySearch: Apple re-engineering the iPad’s Retina Display around thinner IGZO tech

Apple's "resolutionary" iPad 3 brings with it the company's best Retina Display yet, featuring an astounding resolution of 2,048-by-1,536 pixels. Because so many pixels are crammed up on the same 9.7-inch canvas, much stronger backlight is required in order to push the light through the pixels, taxing the battery and adding up to the device's overall thickness.

A new report cites a prominent display expert who claims that Cupertino is working on an improved Retina tech for an updated third-generation iPad. The new display is thought to be thinner and consume less power, allowing for a new iPad stock-keeping unit (SKU) with a slightly better battery life and lower heat dissipation...
