Apple removes Bose products from online store

Bose products disappeared from Apple's online store in several countries (still in at least the UK Store) this afternoon. The change, first spotted by 9to5Mac, follows rumors that the long-standing retail relationship between the two companies has soured.

Customers will no longer come across Bose speakers and headphones in device accessory pages on Apple.com, and a search for 'Bose' on Apple's website comes up empty. It's believed that we will soon start seeing similar removals from Apple's retail stores.

Wunderlist for iOS gets 1Password integration, Mac app gains Handoff, Today widget and more

Wunderlist, an increasingly popular cross-platform to-do and task manager by German developer 6Wunderkinder, got updated both for iOS and OS X with cool new features.

The iOS edition now includes support for 1Password signing and the ability to see your to-dos in iCal while fixing UI issues on iPad and more.

The Mac edition has received a substantial Yosemite-ready refresh adding a more productive Today widget in the Notification Center, interactive push alerts, a more powerful “Add to Wunderlist” feature along with the complete Handoff experience for seamless moving between devices and more.

Apple starts accepting pre-orders for new iPads

Apple's Online Store went down for more than three hours earlier this morning as the Cupertino firm was gearing up to start accepting pre-orders for the new iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3.

Lo and behold, Apple has now begun accepting pre-orders for the new tablets from customers in 29 countries and territories.

Additional global availability is due in the coming months. Interestingly enough, U.S. carrier AT&T started accepting pre-orders for the new tablets ahead of Apple. If you're interested, head over to the Online Apple Store and make your reservation for one of the new iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 3 models.

Apple promised to start shipping these “later next week”.

iCloud Photos will require iOS 8.1, Apple confirms

Apple on Friday unofficially confirmed that a new Photos web app will be available through the iCloud web interface, most likely after iOS 8.1 launches next Monday. As we previously reported, visiting the beta.iCloud.com/#photos URL used to produce an unusual error message indicating a web-based version of the iOS Photos app was in the works.

Folks who have signed up for iCloud Beta should now visit the same URL as there's a brand new webpage showing teaser graphics and the message saying “To use iCloud Photos on the web, upgrade your iOS device to iOS 8.1”.

Well that’s all folks. Apple's iPad and Mac event has come, and gone. We'll continue talking about the announcements made today for many, many weeks, but the keynote itself and all of the speculation and rumors we heard leading up to it, are now over.

Hands-on with iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 and iMac with Retina 5K display

So you’ve watched Apple’s keynote, and you’ve been keeping up with the news today, but thus far you’ve only seen the new iPads and Retina iMac from either afar or in marketing materials. Obviously, the products are going to look good in photos, but what about in real life?

Following the event today, select journalists were given the chance to go hands on with the two new iPads, and 5K iMac, and have posted videos of their initial reactions. So naturally, we’ve rounded up some of these clips that show folks trying out the devices for the first time.

Apple unveils the iPad mini 3 with Touch ID

Alongside a new iPad Air, Apple has today unveiled a new version of its iPad mini. But unlike it's larger sibling, the mini does not receive a performance bump courtesy of the new A8X chip, the 8MP iSight camera or many of the other improvements.

As you can see in the image above, the tablet retains its 7.9-inch display and 5MP iSight camera. On the other hand, it does gain the faster 802.11n with MIMO and a Touch ID-enabled Home button. Apple didn't mention the name of its processor.

OS X Yosemite update now available in the Mac App Store

Earlier today, Apple announced that its highly anticipated OS X Yosemite update would be available today. And we are happy to announce that the update just landed in the Mac App Store, and is now available to all users for free, as long as you have a compatible Mac machine.

The release is a major one for the Mac platform, as it brings about a number of improvements. The software's UI design has been refreshed, bringing it more in line with iOS, and there are several new features including Notification Center widgets, and text message forwarding.

Apple is holding its much anticipated media event at the corporate Town Hall campus in Cupertino, California and the company has just announced the next chapter in the iPad story, the iPad Air 2.

As suspected, the tablet is even thinner than the current-generation iPad Air and, yes, comes in Gold.

And guess what it's called. Yes, the iPad Air 2. It's an incredible 6.1 mm thin, which is 18 percent thinner than the iPad Air, enough to call it the “world's thinnest tablet”. There's Touch ID, better cameras, Apple Pay, faster chips and lots more, all listed after the break for your reading pleasure.

iOS 8.1 available Monday, brings back Camera Roll and other improvements

Apple at today's media event at its Town Hall campus in Cupertino, California announced that iOS 8.1 will be available this Monday, October 20, with Apple Pay and a number of improvements based on user feedback.

As per usual, the firmware upgrade will be available as a free download for compatible iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices.

These include bringing back the Camera Roll album that went missing in iOS 8 and other enhancements that Apple executives did not have the time to list during the presentation.

Ten ways iPad Air 2 is better than iPad mini 3

Deciding between the original iPad mini and the iPad 4 was tedious due to a feature gap stemming from the notable hardware differences between the two. On the other hand, the choice between the iPad mini with Retina display (or the iPad mini 2, as it's now called) was a no-brainer. Both came outfitted with essentially the same hardware— from the sensors to the A7/M7 chips to the cameras — so the decision came down to picking your preferred screen size.

That said, brain work is required to make an informed purchasing decision concerning the latest iPads. In case you missed it, Apple's brought minor changes to the iPad mini 3 and the device got only like thirty seconds of stage time. Conversely, the iPad Air 2 is a much more substantial upgrade.
