MobileMe: yet another way to squeeze money out of you

Phil Schiller announced that Apple will be replacing .Mac with an entirely new services called "MobileMe". The new service works on iPhones, Macs, and PCs and provides an entirely new set of services for subscribers. Priced at $99 per year (with a 60-day trial available), the service offers 20GB of storage and push calendering, contacts, and email.

Using MobileMe, all contacts, calendars, and email stays in sync across all devices. When something is changed on your computer, its instantly pushed out to other computers as well as iPhones (and possibly the iPod touch). The service integrates with desktop apps such as Address Book and iCal on the Mac, as well as Outlook on the PC.

Why is everybody excited about MobileMe? I am not excited at the idea of paying an extra $100/year, just to have push email (and other push features, including calendar, photos, etc...).

Apple pisses me off always trying to get the most money out of you. When you have a BlackBerry, you don't have to pay an extra fee to enjoy push email...

What about email address? Do I have to get a new email address@me.com?? I certainly don't want to have to change my email address. Maybe a forward to my MobileMe account?

Right now, the way MobileMe is going to work is still unclear.

WWDC 2008 Live Coverage

Here are some of the tech people who will be covering WWDC 2008. Most awaited is of course Steve Jobs keynotes about the 3G iPhone. I am not sure Apple will be streaming the event live but I know for sure that you will be able to see the video of the keynotes later that day from Apple.com and you can also download it as a podcast.
