Spotify Now Open to iOS Developers

Online music streaming service Spotify has launched a new API that will allow independent iOS developers to bring the service to their own apps. The API, called Libspotify, means we could see Spotify built into all kinds of iPad, iPhone and iPod touch applictions moving forward.

While there is currently no word on whether the new Libspotify API will find itself to Android, it's perhaps interesting to note that the API is offered on a none-commercial basis, meaning paid-for apps will not be allowed to use it...

Elgato to Launch iPad TV Tuner

Elgato, the company well known for making TV tuners and the like for the Mac, is set to release an iPad accessory that will effectively turn an iPad 2 into a freeview television.

Aimed squarely at the European market, Elgato's tuner will come complete with a telescopic aerial and will receive the DVB-T frequencies. A companion app will also be available in the App Store, which promises the ability to record live television using the dock connector tuner accessory...

Much like Google's buyout of Motorola Mobility we told you about a few weeks ago, I don't think anyone saw the AT&T/T-Mobile deal coming. The nation's second largest carrier unveiled it's plans earlier this year to acquire the operator for $39 Billion.

Arguably the best web browser available for the Android platform, Dolphin, is now also strutting its stuff on iOS. Dolphin's claim to fame is its deep gesture integration, which reduces the need for quite so many on-screen buttons. Perfect for smartphones with smaller screens, just like the iPhone.

Offering its wares for free, Dolphin joins a long list of web browsers in the App Store which aim to take a piece of the browsing pie from the stock Safari software, but it may need to offer something unique if it's going to make people switch...

LaunchConfirm: Stop Accidentally Launching Apps

It's no secret that many of the tweaks found on Cydia are close replicas of already existing tweaks; LaunchConfirm is no exception.

Heavily borrowing from another recently released jailbreak tweak by the name of DoubleTapToOpen, LaunchConfirm aims to accomplish similar results, albeit using a slightly different method.

Both tweaks aim to prevent the end user from accidentally launching apps. DoubleTapToOpen requires a double tap to launch apps, while LaunchConfirm adopts a confirmation dialogue box in order to do so.

Now that Apple's long-time chief has resigned, many are wondering if new CEO Tim Cook would carry on the tradition of answering emails from the public. It seems a day can't go by without a new iPhone 5 rumor, and today has had its fair share already. The latest rumor to throw on the metaphorical fire revolves around US cell phone carrier Sprint and an event it plans to hold in October.

The event, which will take place on October 7th, is being called a 'strategy update' by the execs at Sprint. It's supposedly aimed at giving the team a chance to speak to the press, as well as a question and answer session. But is that all? Maybe. Maybe not...

iPhone Smart Cover Concept Video [Updated]

So I was messing around with Ryan Petrich's VoiceKeys tweak a while ago, and stumbled upon a revelation: The tweak's proximity sensor feature, coupled with my BookBook case makes for an almost iPad 2 imitating Smart Cover feature for the iPhone.

In a nutshell, I decided it would only be right to record the functionality that I inadvertently stumbled upon, with the hopes of coercing someone in the jailbreak community to take this project head on.

What we need, is jailbreak tweak that allows one to activate the proximity sensor anywhere, in any app, not just in the Phone app (or in this case, the Messages app). Check inside for a video demonstration of the iPhone Smart Cover concept in action, along with a call to arms to any jailbreak developer who wishes to take this project on...
