Night Sky Pro delivers a seriously in-depth stargazing experience

I live in a metropolitan area where I’m lucky if I can look up at night and see the stars. It’s just too bright and the air is too congested. Stargazing apps have made it possible for me to actually see deep into the night sky without having to head for the hills.

iCandi Apps, the makers of The Night Sky and The Night Sky 2 have just launched their third in the stargazing series. Night Sky Pro is thick with lots of new features on top of the plethora of features already available on the previous two apps.

Pangu Untether updated to fix overheating issues on 32-bit devices [update: it’s back]

If you've jailbroken your iPhone 5, iPod touch 5th gen, iPhone 4s, iPad 2, or any other 32-bit iOS device, then perhaps you've encountered the problem that this update fixes. The launchd process would "spin" continuously burning CPU and battery, and in some cases, even making the device run extremely hot.

I've seen various reports about iPhone 5s running hot, but never really took them seriously. That probably has something to do with the fact that I've only jailbroken 64-bit devices like the iPhone 5s and 6 Plus. But apparently, this was a real issue affecting more than just a few. For that reason, Pangu has issued an updated version of its Untether package to fix the problem.

New report says iPad Pro will be 7mm thin with a 12.2-inch display

Apple's upcoming iPad Pro will feature a 12.2-inch display, and be nearly as thin as an iPhone 6 (6.9mm), according to a new report from Macotakara. Citing reliable sources, the Japanese outlet says the device will also contain stereo speakers, and a microphone, on both its top and bottom edges.

Additionally, the outlet claims that the design of the device is largely based on the iPad Air 2, and it has provided a rough sketch of the tablet, which you can see above. There's not much to the illustration, but there does seem to be a row of what looks like speaker holes across the device's top bezel.

Netflix++ is a jailbreak tweak that adds trailers to the Netflix App

Netflix is a wonderful entertainment resource. It's always good for an obscure move that you've never heard of. I highly recommend Funky Monkey.

But one of the most baffling things about Netflix is the lack of trailers and previews. Instead, you have to exit the Netflix app, fire up YouTube, watch your trailer, and then head back to the Netflix app with decision in hand. Yeah, that makes no sense.

Fortunately, jailbreakers no longer have to deal with that nonsense. Netflix++ is a new jailbreak tweak that integrates YouTube trailers directly into the Netflix app. That means that people like our very own Cody can watch a snippet of Justin Bieber's movie before sitting down to enjoy it. ‘ForceGoodFit’ is reason enough alone to jailbreak the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

It's been well over a month since the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus officially touched down in retail stores, and even longer since iOS 8 became available. Still, as seems to be the case with each new major iPhone and iOS release, there are developers who take a while when it comes to updating their apps.

Sometimes the delays are legitimate—updates aren't easy—and sometimes it seems like the delays are extended with little reason. Whatever the case may be, it makes for a less-than-desirable experience on the user end. With a device like the iPhone 6 and the 6 Plus, such delays are especially glaring, because the apps that haven't be updated stand out like a sore thumb.

With that in mind, wouldn't it be nice if you could force an app that hasn't been updated to run as if it had? That's the underlying premise behind ForceGoodFit. It forces apps that haven't been updated to fit the screen resolution of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. It basically makes apps that haven't been update look much better than they did before.

iFile is now available for iOS 8 and the iPhone 6

Legendary file management app, iFile, is now available with several notable updates in tow. Most importantly, the Finder-like tool for iOS has been updated for iOS 8. Secondly, support has been added for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Apple’s ‘iPhone’ trademark is being challenged in India

Tamil Nadu-based company iVoice Enterprise is moving forward with its challenge to Apple's 'iPhone' trademark in India, reports PatentlyApple. The firm has asked the country's Intellectual Property Appellate Board (IPAB) to remove the trademark from their registry.

The initial complaint, known officially as a "rectification petition," was filed on October 20, and many figured it would be immediately tossed out. However, today it is being reported that the IPAB is taking the trademark issue seriously, and has asked Apple to respond.

Trent Reznor talks new role at Apple in Billboard interview

Adding to the stack of Apple executive interviews we've seen in recent weeks, Billboard has published an article with Beats' Trent Reznor today, where he discusses his new role in Cupertino and what he's been working on.

Reznor is of course the frontman for the rock band Nine Inch Nails, a film score composer, and the Chief Creative Officer for Beats Music. He came over to Apple with Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine following the Beats acquisition.
