Soon after the opening of the App Store in 2008, The Wall Street Journal sat down with the late Apple CEO Steve Jobs to discuss the store and future of the company. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the online store, it recently published (along with The Information) both the audio and transcript of the interview with Jobs. The historical record shows even Jobs was surprised by the App Store's immediate success. Here are some key highlights from the interview, which was held on Aug. 7, 2008.

TextEmojis lets you type Emojis and more with text shortcuts

A variety of popular third-party messaging apps, including Discord and Slack, let you enter Emojis by typing a colon followed by a specific shortcode. Apple doesn’t provide users with a comparable feature throughout the rest of iOS, but wouldn’t it be nice if they did?

Design resources now available for Apple developers for Photoshop and Sketch

Human Interface Guidelines

On Thursday, Apple announced the introduction of new design resources for Apple developers for Mac and Apple Watch. The company's Human Interface Guidelines now include AppKit UI elements for designing Mac apps like Sketch and Photoshop, plus dozens of new UL elements for watchOS apps. There are also new watch templates for designing complications, a color guide, and new text styles.
