Muzzy puts an iTunes companion in your menu bar

I’m always looking for fun new features that will make my music listening experience better. Music apps are a dime-a-dozen for iOS, but there are not a whole lot of good music apps for the Mac. There are even fewer good free music apps.

Muzzy is a music-related iTunes companion for the Mac that puts an icon in your menu bar so you can see what album you are listening to without having to call up your whole iTunes window…

Stargazing apps to check out tonight’s sky events

As the weather gets warmer and the days grow longer, the night sky becomes a new and exciting place to explore. We may not be able to hop on our bikes and ride around the Milky Way, but we can find a dark place out of the city to go on a visual hike.

If you find yourself wondering what is above your head when you look into the starry night, we’ve got a list of apps that will turn the sky into a whole new universe…

This was a big week for iOS games and apps. Some old favorites received major updates and some epic console games were given the iOS treatment. There are plenty of reasons to pretend you are too busy to go visit old Aunt Gertrude.

Whether you are looking for fun new photo and video apps, epic fighting games for the fanboy in you, or an app to help you find something to do this weekend, we’ve got a list of apps we think will keep you occupied until the wee hours of Monday morning…

Mextures: easily apply textures, light leaks and more effects to your images

There are a lot of photo editing applications in the App Store these days. It is hard to find one that is actually unique. It seems like everything that can be done for iOS photo editing, has been done. So, when an innovative app comes along, it is a real treat.

Mextures is the most original photo-editing app for the iPhone that I’ve seen in the App Store in years. It is more than just a filtering mechanism for your images. It lets you layer, blend, and add texture to your pictures, making them in to pro-quality works of art…

How to subscribe to ‘Let’s Talk Jailbreak’

The iDownloadblog podcast recently reached a milestone. Two weeks ago, “Let’s Talk Jailbreak” hit episode 10. Unfortunately, at about the same time, Apple decided to pull the popular podcast from iTunes.

Don’t worry, you can still listen and subscribe to Let’s Talk Jailbreak without missing a single episode. We’ve got a quick tutorial on how to subscribe in a variety of ways to hear Jeff and Sebastien muse over all things jailbreak…

EA turns Tetris into a whole new game [review]

Tetris is one of those games that I never could play very well. I would often drop a block in the wrong spot or not plan ahead for upcoming blocks. I’d end up with too many holes and no way to remove a row.

Tetris Blitz takes much of the hard work and frustration out of the game by giving you block placement options and a two-minute time limit. You’ll never run out of room for blocks because the game will end before you get there…

Be prepared when disaster strikes with Tornado by American Red Cross

Tornado season is well under way. Although the devastating weather has been late on arrival this year, last week’s tragedy in Oklahoma shows that Mother Nature is not weakening. If anything, she is a stronger force than ever.

If you are in an area that ever has or ever will experience a tornado, the American Red Cross has your back with their Tornado app. Use this app to plan for emergencies, prepare for a rescue, and pick up the pieces after the disaster is over…

Calendo finds something for you to do every day of the week

Facebook is like a giant party where everyone is talking to you at the same time. Everyone is telling you about their kid’s report card or asking if they can catch a ride somewhere. Everyone invites you to some kind of event, whether you would even be interested in it or not. I used to feel obligated to respond to Facebook invites. But I get invited to so many events that I gave up even checking them.

Calendo – Find Facebook and Meetup events nearby for the iPhone finds events on Facebook based on what you bookmark and generates new lists of events that you might find interesting. No more weeding through hundreds of invitations to art openings, fundraiser, and 5K runs that you don’t want to go to. With Calendo, you can find something you actually want to do this weekend…

The best weather apps for the iPhone

In California, which is where I live, we don’t get many changes in our weather conditions. Northern California summers reach just above 100 during the hottest days of August and right around 50 degrees during the coldest months in January. There are no tornadoes, hurricanes, or blizzards in my town, but for some reason, I Love weather apps. Maybe it is because I don’t experience extreme weather conditions, but want to see what they look like from above.

If you are a weather watcher because you are preparing for the upcoming storm, or just like to see those red swirly radar signals moving around on a map, we have a handful of apps that we think are the best weather apps for iPhone…

Little Viking Dungeon of Doom will make you flip

Dungeon crawl games are a gem for old-school gamers and a joke for newer generations. The old folks love the repetitive, monotony of going room-to-room, unlocking chests and killing baddies with no other distinctive plot. While young whippersnappers think dungeon crawls are boring and a waste of time.

Little Viking Dungeon of Doom mixes a bit of the dungeon crawl genre with a more modernized gameplay. Instead of just roaming around killing orcs and collecting treasure, you are solving action puzzles while roaming around killing orcs and collecting treasure…
