FakeClockUp Makes Your iPhone Seem Faster

If you're looking for a way to make your iOS experience seem snappier without any damaging overclocking hacks, then look no further. There's a new package for the jailbroken iPhone called FakeClockUp that does just that.

The tweak will not change any hardware settings, but rather alters the UI animation speeds so that transitions and other animations will occur shorter or longer, whichever you prefer...

Apple Asks Federal Government to Put an End to Jailbreaking

According to NBC, Apple has filed a request to the Federal Government to stop “hackers” from jailbreaking the iPhone.

Even though jailbreaking and unlocking the iPhone had been officially made legal by the government back in July of 2010, Apple has still made an effort to halt jailbreaking. NBC reports Apple has told the U.S Copyrights Office the following:

Troubleshooting a Painfully Slow Cydia Update

Cydia NetDB Error

Sometimes it seems that Cydia updates can take forever. For slower devices, it may be normal. But if you see errors while downloading or if the update takes more than five minutes, there may be a solution.

Before you start this method, you will need to have APT Strict installed. If you have CyDelete installed, then you already have this. Otherwise, make sure Cydia is set to Developer mode, search for it and install...

What the %#@! is SSH?!

If you are new to jailbreaking, you are likely to hear the term SSH thrown around quite a bit. For troubleshooting it's essential; for everything else it's very useful.

So what is it? Simply put, it's an advanced way to connect to the iPhone. Also known for it's uses in SFTP, IMAPS, POP3S, etc., SSH is a protocol short for Secure Shell that gives us an encrypted and secure tunnel between two devices.

miTime Updated: Activate FaceTime on Unofficial Carriers

One of the problems with using the iPhone 4 on an unofficial carrier is you lose the ability to FaceTime. Enter MiTime. MiTime is an application available for jailbroken iPhones that activates FaceTime on unlocked iPhone 4s that are running on unofficial/unsupported carriers, such as T-Mobile USA.

The app was first introduced back in August of 2010 and now it has been updated with support for iOS 4.1 and 4.2.1. It works by sending two international SMS messages to activate FaceTime. It is currently the only way to activate FaceTime on unofficial carriers, and in my opinion, it’s definitely worth it.

Follow the guide below to activate FaceTime on your unlocked iPhone 4...

New Multitouch Gestures Indicate No Buttons on Future iPads

Apple has recently seeded to its developers iOS 4.3 and there is plenty to read in between the lines with this latest version. The biggest change is the additional gestures for users to enjoy.

You will soon be able to pinch-out with four or five fingers in order to get back to the home screen. In addition, you will be able to swipe up with four or five fingers to display the fast-switching app bar, no matter what app you are in. A simple swipe down with just as many fingers will hide the app switcher.

Also, to perform multitasking fast app switching, you can swipe to the left or right, again with four or five fingers, to quickly switch from other apps running in the background. This addition alone is going to be the most beneficial.

I for one have had so much trouble double-clicking that home button to bring up the fast-switching app bar. Sometimes I click too slow and it just takes me to the home screen. Or sometimes I click too fast and the device only registers one click, thus taking me again to the home screen.

I also really like the actual multitasking gesture of swiping through all the open apps. This is as if all the apps are running side by side and your iPad is merely a window into one of them. Such a cool concept!

Check out the video above for a demonstration of these new gestures.

iOS 4.3 Reveals New iPhone and iPad Models

It’s been less than 24 hours since Apple started seeding iOS 4.3 Beta to developers and we’ve already found out many new features the new OS brings, but news doesn’t stop there.

The eagle-eyed folks over at Engadget have made another interesting discovery. Within the iOS 4.3 Beta code there are references to two new iPhone models and three new iPad models. The model names that appear include iPhone (4,1 and 4,2) and iPad (2,1, 2,2, and 2,3)...

T-Mobile Ad Takes a Jab at Verizon and AT&T iPhones

We all knew it was bound to happen, but I don’t think we were expecting it this early. T-Mobile’s latest 4G campaign, featuring an Apple vs Mac style, takes a jab at both AT&T and Verizon.

Previously, T-Mobile aired several advertisements outlining the disadvantages of the iPhone on the AT&T network, including the inability to video chat over WiFi on the AT&T iPhone whereas the T-Mobile myTouch 4G can make calls anywhere.

The latest advertisement shows that there’s no fun in having a great handset running on a slow network, referencing AT&T’s unreliable 3G network and Verizon slow CDMA network, when T-Mobile’s network provides 4G speeds...

Comex Waiting on Verizon iPhone for Next Untethered Jailbreak?

According to a recent tweet from well-known iPhone hacker Comex, the untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 might be released after the Verizon iPhone’s debut. In reply to a tweet asking if Comex would wait for iOS 4.3 to release his untethered jailbreak, Comex replied:

“I don’t know, I think I’m waiting for the Verizon iPhone.”

So far, the only untethered jailbreak method available for 4.2.1 is the iPhone Dev-Team’s redsn0w 0.9.7beta6 which is currently Mac only...

iPhone App Review: Ninja Bounce

Ninja Bounce [iTunes link] created by JellyOasis is a survival game and continues my trend of reviewing awesome Ninja-related iPhone games (e.g. Ninjump and Veggie Samurai). This is really a fun game that adds a couple new dimensions to the survival genre. Instead of slicing and dicing like most Ninja games, this game takes a different approach to the Ninja's skills, the jump (or as Indiana Jones would call it, The Leap of Faith!)

The concept is simple: you must correctly tap on either the two points on the screen that correlates to the specific point of the game. Your Ninja will be constantly moving, however; the length between jumps is directly related to correctly tapping on the right button...

iPhone App Review: Saving Private Sheep

Saving Private Sheep [iTunes Link] was created by Bulky Pix and is a witty and fun physics puzzle game for the iPhone. Some of you may think of Saving Private Ryan (the movie), but that's where all the similarities end.

The concept is simple yet deceivingly complex. You must save Private S. Ryan (a sheep), while he sits atop or dangles perilously from structures that only the Devil could have conceived. To save him, you will need to destroy boxes, blocks of ice, or exploding packages by simply pressing on each thing with your finger...
